2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6, 1 Car-Carport
I and two brothers own the property, one of whom lives next door. The property has been in the family for literally centuries, and relatives own the surrounding land. Generations have lived or visited here, enjoyed the uniqueness, the beach, the marshes and the fields.

Why Owner chose Old Lyme
This dwelling once was part of a working farm, where the dairy functions were carried out. Thus the name Udder Heaven arose. It sits in the old barnyard, building mainly used for storage and equipment. Udder Heaven is a single unit on the second floor, storage, car port and laundry are on the first floor.
What makes this Cottage unique
Access to the marshes, Long Island Sound, beach, river, hiking trails and fields are the primary attraction. Artists sometimes visit and paint landscapes, and children find the beaches fantastic for collecting shells and pebbles. Birds abound with a plover sanctuary on Griswold Point.

Great location and very quiet.
This property is not a cottage as described, but rather an apartment up over a farm equipment garage. To access it, one must climb an open, seventeen step staircase. I would suggest that this is not a good fit for seniors. The futon should be replaced by a sleeper sofa that is comfortable to sit on. There is no washer and dryer. The unit is clean. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and the kitchen pretty well equipped. There were several days during my stay that were cold and the one small heater was useless.
The photos provided in the Homeaway listing clearly show the stairs, as well as the description and written information clearly state Udder Heaven is not suitable for seniors. There is a washer and dryer in Udder Heaven in the first floor of the building. A hard copy of our extensive "Welcome to Udder Heaven" is in the living room and an electronic PDF file is sent to each guest prior to their srrivsl, which provides information of all the available guest services, including telephone numbers for immediate local assistance by family on Griswold Point. The description on Homeaway stated there is no heat and a electric heat is available. Thank you for your feedback as we always make improvements in the fall for guests to enjoy during the following rental season.
Our home away from home!
We stayed at Udder Heaven two years ago and loved it. Last year we thought we'd try some other spots to broaden our horizons, but they couldn't compare, and this year we returned for our summer week at the beach. We'll be back again next year! Such a peaceful spot in a quaint town, complete with a short, scenic (complete with live turkeys!) walk to the lovely private beach, and within easy drive to attractions such as Mystic Aquarium, as well as short drives to grocery store, restaurants, etc. Truly a perfect family getaway that our young daughter and Chihuahua loved as well.
Thank you for your comments. We look forward to welcoming your family again!
Bucolic setting on the shore...
... And perfect for a get away from it all respite, yet within a seven minute drive to groceries, excellent pizza (Pizza Plus!), and your daily dose of ice cream from A.C. Petersen!
Fresh air, quiet, peaceful, and you can bring your pooch... What's better than that?
Enjoyed our stay very much. For the money we payed a few more ammenities could have been added. They definitely need a new grill. We didn't want to cook on the old charcoal grill they had on hand. It was dirty. The cottage was clean and neat. Linens should have been provided. The gate to the beach was never opened untill the last day there. Could not use the grey beach house to store our chairs had to lug them back and forth from the beach.
Overall we had a great time and the area has alot to offer.
Felt the cottage was overpriced.
Thank you for your comments. We will make suggested improvements. The storage (beach house) is owned by one of our cousins. When we are there, we carry our beach supplies to the beach as well. The beach is a private beach the gate is locked sometimes. If you return again in the future, please send me a message with any issues that come up during your stay. I am always available by cell phone/text message.
I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay overall.
Beautiful and private setting
Stayed for a week with my 2 small dogs. Accommodations are simple, clean, private and we had all that we needed. Long walks, solitude, reading on the beach and enjoying nature. Splendid!
Thank you for your comments. We look forward to welcoming you again!
This is a very special piece of land, preserved by decendebts of settlers.
The rolling fields running over toward the reeds and sound point beyond. The cows lived brittt darn comfy.
One of the most magical places I've seen lately.
The hay loft like apartment ain't fancy by look out from the window or high deck.
Worth consideeenf! It's nice heee.
