About Patricia Lane & Ian Bradley
Hi we are Ian & Patricia, The photograph shows us at the Casita, dressed in our costumes for 'The Battle of the Bridge' a wonderful event that takes place over a weekend towards the end of September, The village steps back 200 years to celebrate a point in its history when the local people routed Napoleon's soldiers. A great event when Montejaquenos and visitors join together to commemorate the battle. We first came to Montejaque in the early 90's and loved it so much that we decided to buy a house here. We are now retired and love to spend time in Casita de las Estrellas, but when we aren't here we would love to share it with you. We enjoy walking in the area, it is so beautiful and there are walks to suit all abilities. Walking also allows us to indulge our other pleasures of bird watching and wild flowers - so all in all it is the perfect place for us. Patricia is an artist and she finds lots of inspiration for her paintings in this part of Andalucia. We have lots of friends in the village so when we stay it really is home from home.
Patricia Lane & Ian Bradley purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Patricia Lane & Ian Bradley chose Montejaque
When we first had the opportunity to buy the casita we fell in love with its character, and its position in the village. We love the peace and tranquility - but we can be in the village square to enjoy the bars etc. in less than 5 mins. After we bought the casita we were able to acquire a small plot of land at the rear which gave us the opportunity to sympathetically extend as well as providing us with a delightful and very private patio garden. For us the village and the casita are our little slice of paradise :-)
What makes this Cottage unique
Our part of the village is very quiet and tranquil, and is still much as it was years ago. Local people going about their daily lives as they always have. No-one hurries and they always have time to pass the time of day. Even if you don't speak the language - an 'Hola' from you will always be returned with a greeting and a smile. Try it and see :-)

Hills in April
Montejaque is a lovely little town in the middle of loads of great hikes including up the hill to the casita! The casita is compact, but beautifully thought through for comfort and covenience and a delight to the eye. We had some damp days and enjoyed its spaces both inside and out. We are not mountaineers but do enjoy a good walk of a couple of hours through beautiful county which were readily available, although some third party directions were a bit difficult to follow. The tourist office however has helpful staff and some good maps in addition to those in the casita. The town shops can provide all the basic provisions. The bars and restaurants are also basic, but quite satisfactory in patio weather when you can avoid the inevitable blaring TV, pinball machine and local resident shouting match about the soccer game. We did enjoy the Casita Restaurant for a quieter evening dinner location. I would recommend this for a lovely getaway.
Lovely romantic cottage set in beautiful scenic village.
The cottage is cosy, exceptionally clean and felt like home from home. It was the perfect place to unwind and relax.
The cottage was a good base to explore surrounding area. We didn’t go walking as the temperature was far too hot, heard spring time is the best season to visit.
A highlight for us was the ‘Cueva de la Pileta’, only 15min drive away, we worth a visit.
Thank you Kathryn & Steven for such a lovely review, we do appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back again at a cooler time to enjoy the fabulous walks in the area. Warm regards, Patricia
Uphill to paradise !
The cottage is well equiped, very clean and is perfect for a couple. The bed is extremely confortable, the garden-terrace at the back is charming and sunny, the bathroom has anti-slip tiles and an open shower which I liked very much. Every thing is well designed using the space in a typical andalousian village house. The kitchen is small but convenient enough when one is doing the cooking. The cottage is perfectly quiet and nights are very restful. Be prepared to walk up hill to the cottage as it is located in the upper part of the village (don't try to go by car to the door, streets get too narrow !). The village and its surroundings are very beautiful. Each time we drove back to Montejaque we felt this was the most authentic and beautiful village, amist its rugged moutains. There are many walks to be had straight from the village. It is a short drive to Ronda, which is very interesting and calls for more than one day visit, with walks to be had too from there, in a very different environment than around Montejaque. I also want to say that it has been very easy to deal with Patricia who always responds fast to emails. We loved our stay. We would come back without hesitation !!
Thank you for your lovely feedback Marie-Pierre, So pleased your enjoyed your stay. If you return to Montejaque again in the future we would love to welcome you back.
Stunning and peaceful location
We've just had 10 days in this lovely cottage in the peaceful village of Montejaque. The location is superb with a glimpse of the impressive cliff face visible from the patio. It's a short walk to reach a track giving glorious vista's over the mountainous scenery. If you're into wildlife, the birding is great, seeing Griffon vultures and Booted Eagle without even moving from the patio. We bought a book called Walking the Mountains of Ronda and Grazelema by Guy Hunter-Watts and published by Cicerone. This gave excellent guided walks from Montejaque and other beautiful villages just a short drive away. Well worth the £9.95 price tag. The cottage was ideal. It was very well equipped and attractively furnished. Apart from the bedroom there is a lovely sitting room that has patio doors leading on to the patio. Being late March the evenings were chilly and the woodburner was perfect for providing extra cosiness. Plenty of fuel was provided. A couple of good restaurants in the village meant no evening driving unless you wanted to travel further afield. The cottage is nicely furnished with lots of lamps to give subtle lighting and there is absolutely no traffic noise as cars seldom venture up the steep tracks. Although it was no problem to us, the cottage is situated up a steep, narrow road leading up from the attractive square. The car is left a good couple of hundred metres away and you need to walk. It is very atmospheric though and quite a change from most British holiday locations. The owners were very helpful and wanted to make sure we had a good stay and were more than willing to answer any questions. A great holiday and a highly recommended location for people who'd like an active break in a beautiful, friendly and peaceful village.
Great cottage in lovely location
The owners Ian and Patricia were friendly and easy to communicate with via email. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Pepi the local contact who showed us the cottage and ensured that if there were any problems we knew where to contact her. Happily there were no problems and we only saw Pepi again as we wondered through the beautiful streets of Montejaque.
The cottage was a delightful place to base our holiday in the mountainous region of Andalusia. It was very well equipped with all the necessities including lots of the basic food items (e.g. salt, oil, vinegar, tea bags, milk etc) which are often missing and easy to forget in self catering places. The accommodation was well maintained and very clean with a very comfortable bed and bedding.
Ian and Patricia also have provided a helpful folder of useful and easy to understand information about the cottage and the village which we found to be invaluable. It really did feel like home and we would highly recommend it.
Throughout the year Montejaque is an ideal location for bird-watching; Griffon Vultures soar overhead daily, and several raptors species nest and breed here. The spring & autumn migration gives sightings of many birds not normally resident in the area. For botanists spring and early summer is an absolute joy with many wild flower species including several orchids.
Inspiring scenery and quaint local houses provide limitless subjects for artists to capture the essence of this lovely area.
