Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps up to 14)

Secluded Mountain home, three bedrooms, three bath (Jacuzzi tub in main bath) with two of the bedrooms Huge Master suites. Private 6 person hot-tub on deck. Totally secluded. Come give us a try! One of the best deals in North Georgia mountain vacation rentals.

Located about 2 miles off of Hwy 52 running between Amicalola Falls State Park and Ellijay. At the end of a private gravel road, surrounded by 20 acres of unspoiled hardwood forest loaded with wildlife and plant diversity. Fantastic views throughout the property. This is secluded mountain living at its best. Not another building in sight.

. Beautiful hardwood flooring everywhere, twenty foot ceiling in the prow front living room looking out onto a spacious deck. A 6 person spa/hot-tub is located on the deck next to the fire pit and the charcoal grill.

With three futons (two in the lofts and one more in the downstairs TV room) as well as three full sized couches this roomy home can easily accommodate up to 14 people if needed. Both master suites have queen beds and large private baths. The third bathroom has a large Jacuzzi tub as well. All bathrooms have slate or travertine flooring. Two large water heaters make sure that you'll never run out of hot water.

The first floor master suite includes a private, 14’ X 28’ screened porch with fans and a comfortable outdoor sitting room of wicker furniture and a game or snack table.

The living room has a gas log fireplace with stone hearth, a 20’ high ceiling with the large loft area looking on to it from either side of the stairway with each side comprising a cozy nook for reading, playing games or sleeping on either of the comfortable futons there. A HDTV 50’ plasma screen equipped with a home theater DVD/audio system is located in the living room as well with a library of DVD and VHS movies. Rustic, but comfortable furnishings abound. Original artwork hangs on the walls and numerous custom details like the back lit onyx bathroom counter and sink or the inlaid patterns in the hardwood flooring add the sense of decadent luxury without detracting from the natural beauty and seclusion of the home and location.

A full kitchen with all utensils, plates, coffeemaker, dishwasher and makes preparing meals and entertaining fun and easy. Both a breakfast counter and the large round 6 person dining table allow for relaxed serving and flow during meals.

The walkout basement area contains the washer/dryer and a large game room area including a ping-pong table, darts and a second HDTV flat screen with DVD and VHS connected. This downstairs HDTV also has input ports on the front panel for connecting to video games if the kids wish to do that. The whole house is wired for cable.

The well maintained, gravel driveway and large parking area can hold 5 cars.

A mowed grassy meadow adjacent to the house has it’s own wooden deck and 12 person picnic table with fire pit. This location is perfect for lawn games, cookouts, watching the sunset across the valley and stargazing in the clear, north Georgia nights.

The end-of–the-road seclusion and the 60 acres surrounding the home makes this location truly ‘dog-heaven’. When we come up to our smaller home on the property, our three dogs can all run free for the duration without fear of cars or leash laws. More than 10 miles of old logging roads crisscross the property, providing ready trails for hiking at either a low intensity level or as strenuous as you wish simply by scaling the considerable elevations on the property ( From the base of Fern Valley to the surrounding ridges it is roughly 800’ of elevation) Walking from one end of the property to the other takes about 1.5 hours and is a nice little bit of aerobic exercise

Loads of nearby activities from antiquing, mountain biking, Scenic railroad excursion, horseback riding, hiking, golfing, state parks, tubing, canoing and kayaking on the local rivers, boating on Lake Blue Ridge, or just cruising the back roads checking out the cows, apple and peach orchards. Many nice, local resturants in scenic settings. Convenient access to supermarkets, a drive-in movie theater in Blue Ridge(one of the last in Georgia), boutique shops, even a Wal-Mart. The annual apple festival in Ellijay is always a blast, complete with baby animal petting zoo, pig races, hayrides, clogging, country music and the local moonshine museum. Family fun for everyone.

While the location is remote, we do have consistent cell phone signal so you can still be in touch with the outside world if need be.

About Sally

My husband Jon and I looked all over the state of Georgia until we found the perfect location. Ellijay is only an hour and a half drive from our hometown Atlanta. We love being in the Valley with all the different springs, creeks, and ponds on the land. We love all the nature that is so nice through out the year. We have mountain laurels, wild dogwoods, hundreds of wild flowers, and so many different kinds of ferns!! It is so fun discovering all the different kinds of plants.

Sally purchased this house in 2006

Why Sally chose North Georgia Mountains

We love being at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains with so many wonderful things close by. We love hiking the Appalachian Trail, going to Amicalola Falls, and boating on Lake Blue Ridge. We mainly love just being in the isolation of the woods, hearing turkeys, seeing deer and bears!

What makes this house unique

The greatest thing about staying at our property is it is so quiet! One guest suggested it was like staying in a tree house.

Notes:
A separate picnic area with deck, 12 person picnic table fire pit and a large mowed grassy meadow is on the grounds suitable for volley ball, croquet, football etc. Beautiful sunset views while dining on the deck. Perfect for large family reunions. In addition, on the 60 acres we have a small, spring fed swimming hole with dock that is shared with our other, smaller house on the property which the owners use when we come up. The woods have a host of lovely trails for hiking or mountain biking, even sledding in the winter when there is snow. Gorgeous mature hardwood forest laced with many old fire roads, incredible plant and animal life, blueberries, raspberries and ferns everywhere, some as big as 4 feet tall! Four different little creeks running through the property made this location a favorite for moonshine production up into the 50's. Lots of deer, bear, hawks, owls, etc.. The picnic meadow is also an excellent location for stargazing and setting up a telescope.

Great space and location, but needs some updates

  • 4 of 5

My new husband and I spent our wedding weekend here. We loved the location and the space of the house! We had another couple at the house the night before to help us celebrate and we really enjoyed the hot tub and the games available. We would have loved to have played ping pong, but the only 2 balls available were cracked and not usable. The place was extremely clean which was nice. We cooked pizzas one night and the oven took FOREVER to heat up and to cook them. I think it's time for an upgrade. The big room on the main floor was a struggle to keep cool with the rest of the house requiring a sweatshirt. Also, none of the outside flood lights would turn on, so it was really dark when letting the dogs out or making a trip to the car. Finally, the beds. They're just old and worn. We both have back problems and struggled to sleep comfortably. The squeaking alone will keep you up! We ended up going home a night early to sleep on our own beds.

Still a great space. We may stay again with more friends, but only if a few upgrades are made.

PS-don't forget to sign the guest book!! We almost missed it!!

National Lampoons Vacation. That's what this felt like.

  • 1 of 5

Honestly, we were pretty disappointed. We were looking forward to a weekend away, and this listing looked perfect on the surface. Air hockey, darts, ping pong, hot tub and fire pit, plenty of places to sleep. When we arrived, what we found was not what we had hoped for. The tubs and toilet seats were covered in dead gnats. We also found dead gnats in the bed in the downstairs master in between the comforter and sheets. There were hairs, as well as some very questionable stains on the pillows and comforter. The matress itsself was broken down and sagging in the middle. The floors hadnt been swept in God knows how long. It took us about 2 hours to clean when we first arrived. Downstairs, where there is supposed to be fun things for the teens to do, the air hockey table had a broken leg and looked like it was going to fall over if bumped, so that wasn't able to be used. All of the darts were snapped in half. Ping pong paddles had broken handles. So much for all the activities. Then, we attempted to use the hot tub. It was full of bugs and the water was cloudy with a sour smell. The jets were only barely working on one side, and not at all on the other. The filter was filthy, and being held in place with a large rock that was sitting on top of it. Called the owner fitst thing Sunday morning to see if the hot tub at least could be cleaned/fixed because we wanted to use it that night. She apologized and said she would try to get someone out. She also stated she had a cleaning crew that was supposed to have come out before our stay and was shocked at the report of gnats in tubs and beds. Shortly after speaking with her, we started a load of dishes. The dishwasher immediately started spilling soapy water out from around the seal and onto the kitchen floor. We stopped the washer, soaked up the mess, washed the dishes by hand and called her. No answer so left a message. Didn't hear anything back all day long until we were at dinner later that evening. No one ever came out to address the hot tub, and she never called back to offer any type of apology or attempt at a solution. The only options we were left with were a nice selection of movies and board games (the ones not missing peices, anyway) that we were able to enjoy as a family. We could have saved a great deal of money and done that at home. We drove 8 hours in each direction to play board games, watch tv, and sleep in dirty beds.

Owner's Response: Hey, I am so sorry and I did apologise profusely when I spoke with an woman that called to let me know the hot tub was a mess. The last thing I ever want is for a guest to have a bad time. Ever.... I called my cleaning crew and asked them to clean the house before the guest arrived since the house had been vacant for a couple of weeks and I was charged for this service but they did not do the job. I live out of town and I am sorry that I could not check in. I wish the guest had called me as soon as they checked in. I am so sorry again! I also believe the cleaning crew should let me know if anything is broken or missing so that can be corrected before the guest check it but now I have learned that is not the case for the ping pong paddles and darts. I am sorry about this. I left a message for the cleaning crew to go clean the hot tub when the guest called but the man in charge did not get the message. I later spoke with the man in charge of cleaning and he said he did not get the message and he would send someone out BUT HE DID NOT DO IT. When I talked to the cleaning manager he was under the impression that someone did go out to clean but he was wrong. I am sorry that my cleaners have dubbed me.

Comfortable and happy stay for a group.

  • 5 of 5

This was a great weekend getaway! The house is so easy to be comfortable in. Beds were wonderful, games provided were such fun, and the options to use the hot tub and grill were excellent. Thoughtful small details greeted us upon arrival: cut flowers on the table and kids books and crayons for our youngest guest. Thanks, Sally and Jon!

Fantastic weekend in a fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

We had a small family weekend and this house is great. So is Sally! It's no too far from Ellijay and Blue Ridge, but when you're here you feel completely isolated. Last night we sat on the deck with a fire and listened to music. What a great time. Will definitely come here again.

Great for getaway with family and pets

  • 5 of 5

Close proximity to Reece Orchards and short drive away from Burt's Pumpkin Patch and Amicalola Falls. Our family also enjoyed this relaxing property and took advantage of the great porches, nice hot tub , swings, and rockers. We even played tee ball in the picnic area and field. We didn't even make it to the game room! The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our family meals. . The owners were great to work with!
