Gite de Vulcain sleeps 4+2 on sofa bed
The Gite entrance is into a lovely large lounge /dining room.
It has 2 sofas, one which is a sofa bed. There is a coffee table and unit that has a satellite flat screen TV and Blue Ray DVD player, also drawers and bookcase.
At the other end of the room is a wooden table with 6 high backed faux leather chairs. This room also has a wood burner for any chilly evenings in the spring/autumn.
The kitchen has a rustic feel to it with an original stone wall and tiled work surface with a pine dresser and lots of appliances.
There is a downstairs bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower over the bath with a glass shower screen.
The staircase leads from the lounge to the bedrooms which have a lot of character including original beams.
One bedroom has a pine double bed and the other has 2 pine single beds this room can also take another child's bed if necessary, both have wardrobes, drawers and bedside tables .
Upstairs there is also a Shower Room
Gîte de Monarque which sleeps up to 10 was built a few years ago and Gite de Vulcain was completed last year.
Although they have character features like exposed beams they are both equipped with all the modern facilities you need including a flat screen HD TV, Blu-Ray player and free Wi-Fi .
They are set in 2 acres of land mainly laid to grass with a lovely swimming pool that has a terrace with loungers and parasols and a gazebo for when you want to escape the sun completely.
It is a secluded area with plenty of room for children to kick a ball and run around in. Here you will also find 2 swings.
There is an swimming pool 10mx4mx1.2m with alarm and safety cover. This is cleaned every day. It is shared by the 2 gites. There is a shower and foot bath.
Around the pool are loungers, parasols and we have noodles for children to play with in the pool! To one side of the pool is a gazebo for extra shade. A paddling pool is available for very young children.
There are outside eating areas for each gite which have table and chairs, parasols and BBQs.
We have a number of outside games available for guests such as swing ball, badminton, cricket and football nets .
We are Michelle and Martin, based in the UK. I have a full time job working in Agriculture and Michelle runs her own Beauty Therapy business from home. We have two grown up daughters one who works for the National Health Service in Leeds and the other in commercial management of sports stars in London
Michelle Baxter purchased this barn in 2013
After visiting our family several times we fell in love with the area, so when the ideal property became available we jumped at the opportunity to buy. Jumped is a bit of an exaggeration as anyone who has bought a French property will testify! From when we started our enquiries to when we actually owned it took nearly a year.
Michelle’s sister Simone, her husband Dave and their children live in the house on the same site as the gîtes. It really is a family venture!
Simone and Dave have lived in this area for 6 years, they know it very well and speak fluent French.
They are your hosts, par excellence. Nothing for you is too much trouble for them; from your Welcome Pack, to helping and advising on what to see and do, they will try to ensure this will be your best holiday ever!
Gite was exactly as described on the website, clean, spacious and with good facilities including useful extras like dishwasher, BBQ, Wifi. The pool was just the right size and a perfect temperature for the kids to cool off on what was a really hot, sunny week and garden was big and enclosed, great for the kids and the dog. Gite also stayed nice and cool. Local area was beautiful and loads to do, local markets, lovely horseracing, chateau's, quaint villages and a fantastic lake with beach, pedallos, Go-ape type thing and Wakeboarding centre. Simone and Dave (and their kids) who run the property where lovely and really helpful without being too intrusive. All in all a perfect family holiday.
We have had a fabulous holiday really relaxing location but plenty in the area to do with the children or simply relax by the pool. Simone and David are the best hosts ever!
Myself, two grown up daughters plus my brother and sister-in-law had a wonderful week in Gites de Papillon. Simone was a perfect host and gave us much useful local information. The village of Sugur le Chateaux is fabulous and one of the officially niominated most beautiful villages in France. Mondays in the village feature a local festival in season with long table seating and local producers selling great food and wine etc to eat at your outdoor table. The corner shop is where you order your croissants and pain au chocolat for the following day. Fabulous lake with beach and great restaurant 20 minutes away. Local kayaking down the Dronne river is great. Love this area.
We are family of 5 (kids 10,8 and 1) and we had the most wonderful holiday. Our 8 year old cried on the penultimate day as his holiday was coming to an end. The Gite and hosts were both amazing. Lots to do within an hours drive. We had a great variety of days out ranging from beautiful lakes, villages, swimming pools and plenty of long lunches. Can't recommend Papillion Gites enough.
A truly beautiful location - fabulous countryside, charming medieval villages, excellent roads - although cycling would be for the more energetic (very hilly!)
The Gite is beautifully decorated and has everything that you could possibly want and having Simone and family nearby was a great reassurance (good advice about where to go & what to do & how to avoid traffic when travelling back as well as good playtimes for my son)
The only very tiny fly in the ointment was the very large family group with dogs in the adjacent Gite who did dominate the pool and surround but it wasn't really too bad and we did settle into an unofficial sharing regime regarding the pool!
I drove to the gite without the aid of Sat Nav and found it without any problems. Jasmin and myself were warmly welcomed upon our arrival by Dave and Simone. The Gite was so well equipped it was better than being at home. The grounds of the property were amazing, so much land to wander around and when it was warm and sunny, just laze around. Lubersac and Pompadour were both only a short drive away and the added bonus of the vets at pompadour being English speaking, infact 1 of the vets is Aussie, bonus! Although we stayed there in winter there was plenty for us to explore and tonnes of dog walks in the area. As to the Gite, well, loads of room, really, really well equipped and the log burner, to die for! Martin and Michelle really did think of everything!! I had the pleasure of meeting Martin and can honestly say he is a really great bloke, on that subject, Dave and Simone could not do enough for me, when my car gave up they sorted a mechanic for me, wood for the log burner, no probs, got that for me too, a vet, told me the best place to go. Was there a down side to my stay there? Yes, I was there 4 months and it was far to short a stay, over far too quickly, this is a place you will want to come back too again and again, I am already planning my next visit there if Martin and Michelle will have me back :)
We are located in a really peaceful rural area with a single track lane running past. The small village of Saint-Julien-Le-Vendomois is a 15 minute walk away which has a bar/bistro that also sells the daily bread.
There is so much to see and do in the area with the beautiful old medieval village of Segur-le-Chateau 2miles away and Pompadour with its race course, home of the national stud is only 10 km.
There is a choice of several lakes with beaches/activities 2 of which are 20mins and 30mins drive away.
There are many other outdoor activities in the area such as horse riding, fishing, go karting and of course biking on the lovely quiet roads, these can also be hired locally.
Being right on the edge of the Dordogne it also only takes 1.5 hours to get to the famous town of Rocamadour set into the cliff side there are also lots of beautiful caves around here to visit.
