Gite de Monarque sleeps 8 +2 on a sofa bed
The entry into the gite is into a large well appointed kitchen and dining room with a wooden table and high backed faux leather chairs for 8 people.
The hallway leads to a large lounge which has a very homely feel with 4 sofas one which converts into a double bed. A lovely carved wooden wall unit, 2 coffee tables and side tables with lamps. We also have a satellite flat screen TV, DVD player.
From this hallway is also a shower room with shower cubicle, a large sink unit with cupboards and mirror and toilet. A wooden staircase leads to the 3 bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a carved wooden double bed .
The second bedroom is much larger it is split into two with an iron framed double bed and on a mezzanine floor there is a second double bed.
The third bedroom although smaller than the others is still a good size with 2 single beds.
Off the upstairs landing is also the second bathroom which has a sink unit , bath with shower over the bath
Gîte de Monarque which sleeps up to 10 was built a few years ago and Gite de Vulcain was completed last year.
Although they have character features like exposed beams they are both equipped with all the modern facilities you need including a flat screen HD TV, Blu-Ray player and free Wi-Fi .
They are set in 2 acres of land mainly laid to grass with a lovely swimming pool that has a terrace with loungers and parasols and a gazebo for when you want to escape the sun completely.
It is a secluded area with plenty of room for children to kick a ball and run around in. Here you will also find 2 swings.
There is an swimming pool 10mx4mx1.2m with alarm and safety cover. This is cleaned every day. It is shared by the 2 gites. There is a shower and foot bath.
Around the pool are loungers, parasols and we have noodles for children to play with in the pool! To one side of the pool is a gazebo for extra shade. A paddling pool is available for very young children.
There are outside eating areas for each gite which have table and chairs, parasols and BBQs.
We have a number of outside games available for guests such as swing ball, badminton, cricket and football nets .
We are Michelle and Martin, based in the UK. I have a full time job working in Agriculture and Michelle runs her own Beauty Therapy business from home. We have two grown up daughters one who works for the National Health Service in Leeds and the other in commercial management of sports stars in London
Michelle Baxter purchased this barn in 2013
After visiting our family several times we fell in love with the area, so when the ideal property became available we jumped at the opportunity to buy. Jumped is a bit of an exaggeration as anyone who has bought a French property will testify! From when we started our enquiries to when we actually owned it took nearly a year.
Michelle’s sister Simone, her husband Dave and their children live in the house on the same site as the gîtes. It really is a family venture!
Simone and Dave have lived in this area for 6 years, they know it very well and speak fluent French.
They are your hosts, par excellence. Nothing for you is too much trouble for them; from your Welcome Pack, to helping and advising on what to see and do, they will try to ensure this will be your best holiday ever!
The place is as described, very calm (re-discovering silence is a wonderful experience for us living in suburbs !), in the middle of the countryside, yet only 15 minutes away from large supermarkets. I have to say that the other gîte (the house is divided in two separate parts), was not rented during the week of our stay. Along with the pool, the very large lawn is a terrific playground for kids.
We have appreciated the comfort of finding good quality bedding and towels, and the kindness of Simone, the sister of the owner - living next to the property. She has been very responsive and helpful when needed.
We had a great time at the gite. The house is very well equiped and has everything you need. The caretakers are very friendly and helpful. Definitely take time to visit Rocamadour, gouffre de Padirac and Oradour sur Glane. We would definitely recommend this gite to anyone who does not mind driving a little bit
We had a fabulous week in the Gite de Monarque enjoying its excellent facilities, the tranquility of the area and also the easy access to our old holiday haunts of the Dordogne. Simone and Dave's suggestions of places to visit were extremely helpful - We thoroughly enjoyed the evening farmer's market in Segur Le Chateau as well as the horse racing at Pompadour. Kayaking on the River Dronne starting at Brantome (Brantome Canoe) is highly recommended although a change of clothes is a definite necessity! We had 3 children in their early 20s with us and they loved every minute of this holiday which says it all! We look forward to returning.
Simone, Dave and the children were perfect hosts - couldn't have been more helpful. Accurate description of gite regarding location, layout, facilities etc. Gite is in a lovely rural location with lots of space around. Great to be able to sit outside and dine. Extra addition of outdoor games such as badminton and swing ball really good. Lovely pool. Gite well equipped and spacious. Highlights:- Evening farmer's market in Segur Le Chateau, horse racing at Pompadour, chateau at Hautefort and pretty village of St. Yriex La Perche. We found two fabulous traditional low key French restaurants: - Plan d'Eau D'Arfeuille next to the lake at Arfeuille and La Table d'Erillac in the square at Hautefort - both doing fabulous, simple but very tasty French fare. Suggest booking to avoid disappointment.
We have just enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Gite de Monarque. It has the wow factor as you arrive and is situated in idyllic surroundings. Simone and family were the perfect hosts and made the stay very easy and comfortable. We enjoyed an evening of dining at the marche at Segur le Chateau and were made to feel very welcome by all the villagers. We definitely look forward to returning next year.
We are located in a really peaceful rural area with a single track lane running past. The small village of Saint-Julien-Le-Vendomois is a 15 minute walk away which has a bar/bistro that also sells the daily bread.
There is so much to see and do in the area with the beautiful old medieval village of Segur-le-Chateau 2miles away and Pompadour with its race course, home of the national stud is only 10 km.
There is a choice of several lakes with beaches/activities 2 of which are 20mins and 30mins drive away.
There are many other outdoor activities in the area such as horse riding, fishing, go karting and of course biking on the lovely quiet roads, these can also be hired locally.
Being right on the edge of the Dordogne it also only takes 1.5 hours to get to the famous town of Rocamadour set into the cliff side there are also lots of beautiful caves around here to visit.
