About Jan Ferry-Axman
I am the youngest of 4 siblings who own this cottage. We are a large and loving extended family and this was Grandmas and Grandpas cottage until 2010 when they passed away leaving it to my Brothers and sister and I. We are owners and already were sharing with one another and now YOU! Watch the video on this site if you want to see me,specifically. I live in Rochester NY and love sharing our cottage and helping people find the many fun activities around the area.
Jan Ferry-Axman purchased this Cottage in 1982
Why Jan Ferry-Axman chose Town of Sodus
The Ferry family is large and close knit. Our parents purchased the property over 30yrs ago with the idea of fixing it up for retirement. Over the years we have loved visiting and over 30 years we have become a pretty large group who has spent a great deal of time trying out all the activities and restaurants in the area. Two or the four siblings who own the cottage live locally near Rochester but our larger family is spread from San Diego to Fla and NYC. We all LOVE to come back to Sodus and bring our many kids and now grand kids.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Sprongs Bluff area, a small cove set into Lake Ontario, is remote and beautiful. We love that we have a huge lot, beautiful sunsets and LOTS of space. The little set of cottages here are completely surrounded by NYS forever wild parkland. The old GirlScout camp next door was also purchased by NYS and turned into Beachwood Sate Park. We have a private path leading back there. Beachwood has Maxwell Creek running through it as well as Maxwell Bay. This makes for great Canoe and Kayak trips into the Maxwell Creek area. Bald Eagles nest on the point and beauty and tranquility surround you. Lastly when you want to eat out, get a fishing charter, enjoy a drink and entertainment, walk a sandy beach and long pier a quick 3-4mi. drive to Sodus Point and additional fun can easily be had. Also we are about 3-4mi. in the other direction to Sodus village for a post office, grocery store, library, bank and more restaurants. We think we have the perfect spot to enjoy peace, beauty quiet and a just about any fun activity.

Our Slice of Paradise
We recently rented this house for our 7th time and have thoroughly enjoyed this gem each of the six years we have stayed. Each time we return, the property wraps itself around us as we are warmly welcomed by the owner Nancy and her family who offer us whatever hospitality we may need to make our stay pleasurable. We are always treated like family.
We always find the house and property to be immaculate and the layout of the house affords spectacular lake views. Our son and daughter-in-law come when they can and we all enjoy the comfort of the house as well as the amenities of the lake and property.
There are many gems to find and explore from Oswego (to the east) to Rochester (to the west) and the Finger Lakes (to the south) but the gem we enjoy the best is the house at the lake. We consider it to be one of the most beautiful, most pure locations that nature can offer.
We already miss our house and our family at the lake and look forward to returning next year.
We would not recommend it!
We were notified less than 24 hours before our departure that the home we rented had a frozen water pipe and was unusable. The owner offered us another home they had right next door. We looked it up online and saw that the house offered was not as nice as the one we had booked and voiced our concerns to the owner. She assured us that the house was very nice and we should just "show up" and see if we liked it. She offered an undisclosed amount of money as a refund and we were kind of stuck because we had business appointments that we could not miss. When we showed up their was an awful odor (smelled like a dead animal) in the home that was coming from the vents. We opened the windows to air the place out and it finally became bearable. We travel a lot and know that when places are closed up for the winter, sometimes you can get a dead mouse or other small critter. When I went to the basement to see if I could find what was causing the smell, the basement appeared to be from the show "Hoarders" and you could barely get into the basement; it was impossible to try and locate the smell. I contacted the owner and she said she would give us $200 off the price, I reminded her that this house was not the house we initially paid for and this house was already $100 cheaper than the house we were suppose to get, so I asked for $200 off the price of the house we were currently occupying. She sent a detailed email of why should could not afford to give us more than what she had offered.
The next day when we returned from our business meetings, all of the towels in the bathroom were soaking wet. When we looked above where the towels were stored, there was a big hole in the roof and water coming in from the rain. Again, I contacted owner and she said she would give us an additional $150 off and would send her contractor out right away (he never showed). We went down in the basement to wash and dry the towels and when we opened the washing machine, there was old laundry in there coated in mildew and smelled awful. Also, when we returned back to the house, the awful smell had returned and we once again had to air out the house.
We are extremely flexible people and understand that frozen pipes happen in the winter time, and also know that dead critters in a closed up house is also possible. However, the house was very cluttered, it does not appear to be a house used by renters, but a house occupied by a hoarding grandmother.
Lovely, from start to finish
Great house, perfect view of the lake, and excellent owner who is responsive, helpful and kind. She accommodated our large family of 9 at a moment's notice! Nothing to complain about except the town itself shuts down on Monday night and there's no where to find food for hungry kids! Thanks, Jan!!
Peaceful, relaxing, and a breathtaking view ❤️
This was our first family vacation with the kids and it did not disappoint . It was so relaxing and lots of kid friendly activity’s near by. The cottage was very inviting and cozy too. Many memories that will not be forgotten. We will definitely be back next year
Cute lake spot
Property was exactly as described, clean, and well-tended with every amenity you could need. The owner was very responsive and knowledgeable about the area. The cove was scenic and pleasant for swimming, exploring, and kayaking. The Lake Ontario area had flooded badly this year, but the property was set back from the water and therefore stayed dry and in good condition.
Incredible lake view and a cottage that has everything we needed
We rented this cottage for two nights (sep 2 - sep 4). Four adults and a dog.
The cottage (which actually seemed to be an all season place btw) was very clean, it had everything we could possibly need: pots and pans, spices, utensils, towels, blow dryers, extra blankets and etc.
The beach front was amazing, even though the weather during our stay wasn't too warm, we still went in the water. Beach was a little rocky, but as soon as you walk about 10 feet in the water it turns to a very nice sandy bottom.
We enjoyed camp fires at night, grilling and cooking.
Wonderful place!! We will definitely be back :)
