Lovely weekend away
This is a cute little property - perfect for two people. We enjoyed the grill outside, the kitchen has a lot of room to work, and there was plenty of wood for the fire. Was a short drive to Bash Bish falls. We had a really relaxing weekend in a beautiful area :)
I you like to cook, this is the house for you!
Just far enough of the road to make you feel you are in the woods but the town with a great grocery store is just 5 minutes away. I hiked thru Copake Ironworks museum then up to Bish falls which was absolutely beautiful! The host Richard answered all my questions in a very timely manner and the house was very comfortable. Richard gives great instructions on how to work everything. I am sure I will visit again!!!
Cozy, peaceful nature retreat makes you feel right at home
Beautiful views out of every window, secluded and serene, Rich's country cabin is a fantastic place for a quiet retreat. The wood stove makes it incredibly cozy. Just a few minutes from town yet feels like you're all alone in the woods. We had a great time and would definitely return.
Autumn isn't the same without a stay in Hillsdale
A stay here has become part of what makes the Autumn season my favorite. Simple, cozy, private, peaceful are decent adjectives, but " the home I wish I lived in full time" is a more reflection of how I feel about this home.
My recommendation is to have a meal out in Great Barrington or just a beer and snacks at the Washington House one night and shop at the IGA and cook in the kitchen another. As for Breakfast---coffee on the deck or at the table and then head to the dinner or the more "hip" cafe in town.
Stay. You'll be happy you did.
What a lovely little oasis Rich has created on Collins Street Ext., and don't forget ext! We arrived at night and used gps to get us here. Gps brings you to Collins Street, which is well past Collins Street ext. Yes I did have a vague recollection of reading don't follow gps ( follow Rich's very clear directions and you'll be fine)... Any way we found it (after calling Rich who was very helpful and patient) and we are so happy we did! Warm, inviting, and cozy, a refreshing change of scenery that I couldn't help but laugh, smile and be happy with while feeling completely at home. Ahh and it snowed during our stay! So let me add enchanting. The house is 8 miles from Great Barrington, at the foot of the Berkshires with Catamount ski area right around the corner. We don't ski but found some great little restaurants full of character and delicious food! I highly recommend Pleasant and Main in Housatonic (a place to relax and eat great food surrounded by friendly folks and cool antiques you can buy) (the venison stew!!yumm!) and Old Mill in South Egermont; an intimate roadside spot with a charming and knowledgeable bartender and more delicious food! (Their French onion soup is amazing!) So long story short? Rich is great! The house is great! The area is great! You found your romantic getaway! Stay here. You will be happy you did.
Away from it all (but not too far away)
Richard's place in Hillsdale was great. The house is perfect for a couple. Pretty much everything you could ever need is provided, especially kitchen items, so you really just need to bring food. Only 15-20 minutes from the Taconic and also about 20 minutes to Great Barrington which has a lot going on. The property itself is beautiful: nicely set back from the road so you can't even hear the cars.
My wife and I stayed here for three nights. This was a well needed escape from the city and we would definitely stay again.
Secluded, near farms, lakes, mountains. Local summer music festivals, fine restaurants, antiquing nearby. Bike trails, swimming, rafting, nature trails and mountaineering all also nearby. Highlights- Bash Bish Falls, Harlem Rail Trail, Catamount and Jiminy Peak Skiing Resorts.
