Gorgeous 2 story, 1 bedroom country house, perfect for couples looking for the meditative beauty of an artist's retreat. Located on a lush, secluded 2 acres, house has a fully equipped kitchen w/6-burner commercial oven, 32 in. LCD TV, DVD, stereo, WiFi internet, king bed in bedroom. There is a newly-built, large, furnished deck out back with a new Weber Grill. There is also an adjacent, 2-story finished studio building with a music room, accessible upon special request. Beautifully situated amongst rolling hills, farms, lakes, historic homes. 15 min. from Great Barrington, 20 min. from Hudson, NY, 35 min. from Tanglewood.
My husband and I stayed for a weekend. We liked it so much, we asked the owner if we could stay another day. While we decided not to stay in order to beat traffic, we would have easily stayed there a few more days. The cottage is very comfortable, well equipped, quiet and is extremely bright (large windows with views 1. on the garden, 2. on woods). This is a perfect place for those who want to escape everything, about 45 minutes away from the Catskills.
What a lovely little oasis Rich has created on Collins Street Ext., and don't forget ext! We arrived at night and used gps to get us here. Gps brings you to Collins Street, which is well past Collins Street ext. Yes I did have a vague recollection of reading don't follow gps ( follow Rich's very clear directions and you'll be fine)... Any way we found it (after calling Rich who was very helpful and patient) and we are so happy we did! Warm, inviting, and cozy, a refreshing change of scenery that I couldn't help but laugh, smile and be happy with while feeling completely at home. Ahh and it snowed during our stay! So let me add enchanting. The house is 8 miles from Great Barrington, at the foot of the Berkshires with Catamount ski area right around the corner. We don't ski but found some great little restaurants full of character and delicious food! I highly recommend Pleasant and Main in Housatonic (a place to relax and eat great food surrounded by friendly folks and cool antiques you can buy) (the venison stew!!yumm!) and Old Mill in South Egermont; an intimate roadside spot with a charming and knowledgeable bartender and more delicious food! (Their French onion soup is amazing!) So long story short? Rich is great! The house is great! The area is great! You found your romantic getaway! Stay here. You will be happy you did.
Richard's place in Hillsdale was great. The house is perfect for a couple. Pretty much everything you could ever need is provided, especially kitchen items, so you really just need to bring food. Only 15-20 minutes from the Taconic and also about 20 minutes to Great Barrington which has a lot going on. The property itself is beautiful: nicely set back from the road so you can't even hear the cars.
My wife and I stayed here for three nights. This was a well needed escape from the city and we would definitely stay again.
My girlfriend and I recently escaped NYC to this lovely cabin. It was quite an incredible weekend. The place was clean, everything was easy to find and the owner's instructions were perfect. It's very private with a lots to do in the surrounding area. Looking forward to renting again.
This is a perfect getaway for two. The house has wonderful privacy, surrounded by woods and countryside, .......but it is a short drive to outstanding shops, restaurants and entertainment. It's the best of both worlds.
The scenery throughout the area is splendid, with some spectacular hikes and other outdoor activities nearby. Even when the temperature outside began to drop each night, it was extremely sung and comfortable within. We would say "Highly Recommended" for any couple that wants to get away from it all...but not TOO far away.
My husband and I stayed here, and it was just as advertised, except that it looks better in real life than in the pictures. The house is very well-maintained and cared for, gets lots of light, has a nice kitchen, and is great for a couple. The owner is also extremely nice and helpful if you have questions. We also enjoyed the location - a very quiet and peaceful area, but not too far to lots of nice towns and cultural events in the Berkshires.
Secluded, near farms, lakes, mountains. Local summer music festivals, fine restaurants, antiquing nearby. Bike trails, swimming, rafting, nature trails and mountaineering all also nearby. Highlights- Bash Bish Falls, Harlem Rail Trail, Catamount and Jiminy Peak Skiing Resorts.
