Ample self-contained studio in quiet hamlet, with porch overlooking a local beauty spot.
Large open plan kitchen-cum-living room with all facilities, wood stove and double futon. Spiral staircase leads to double bedroom on mezzanine with ensuite shower room. Exterior includes a shady pergola, cosy private porch and gardens.
This open plan living area makes for a comfortable base for a couple. Well equipped kitchen, TV and DVD player. There is an inset wood stove for cold weather. We charge 20 Euro extra per week for firewood.
The views up the lake from the little cosy porch are really lovely. If you're looking for a quiet get away this should be perfect..
There is a washing machine in the nearby barn, also a games room with table tennis, bikes, Badminton, croquet and petangue.
The studio is semi-detached to a larger gîte, which is occupied by the owners during the summer. Guests will have use of the shaded pergola as well as the porch at the entrance way. They will have shared access to the lawns and the pond. They will be welcome to fish in the pond (there is carp and pike). There is ample off road parking on the drive for the guests.
This is an idyllic quiet natural setting. It overlooks the Lac d'Astarac beauty spot and also looks down towards the Pyrenées. We like to walk along the dam at the far end of the lake, and there are further walking paths around the woods beside the lake.
The picturesque village of Saint-Blancard with its pretty chateau is located about 7 minutes drive away, it's the nearest spot to buy bread, but the hotel there also notably provides live music on a Sunday. Both Masseube and Boulogne-sur-Gesse are within 15 min drive and provide a more substantial selection of shops and restaurants and so on. There is a range of activities available in the region, such as kayaking, horse-riding, tree-top adventure, wine-tasting, cycling, walking etc etc.
My wife Helen and I (Scott) moved over from the Northwest of Ireland and have lived out here full-time since 2002, having renovated the farmhouse and accompanying barn by ourselves since that time. We are effectively retired and live a quiet life!
I do like to hand-weave as a hobby and I have a big old traditional hand-weaving loom in a downstairs workshop in the barn conversion. Although it is tidied away during the summer months to make way for the table tennis table, I'm always happy to show it to anyone who is curious.
Whilst respecting the privacy of our guests, we like to make sure that they feel welcome and know that they can approach us with any issues. We'll often share a wee dram during at least one evening of our guest's holiday.
