Enjoy a little bit of country and history located in the heart of our city, one mile from downtown New Braunfels and one mile from Gruene, Texas. The first home built by Ernst and Antoinette Gruene in 1857 still exists in a secluded, farm-like setting.

Relax among giant oak trees and refreshing breezes. Country comes alive as you make memories around the large campfire. Quietly gaze at the open sky, with silence broken only by the whistle of the distant train and sounds of the native wildlife.

About Nolan Bluntzer

My family and I have been living in New Braunfels since 1978. My husband and I have five grown children, and three grandchildren. We enjoy owning the original Gruene Estate and look forward to continuing their legacy.

Nolan Bluntzer purchased this estate in 2004

What makes this estate unique

Gruene Estate is truely a unique property. We bought the house because of its charm, history, and ideal location. The main house was built by the Gruene family in 1856 and we have tried very hard to maintain it's original form. Set on 15 acres, it is one of the last areas in the town of New Braunfels and Gruene that is undeveloped. It's ideal location allows people to be in Gruene, New Braunfels or Schlitterbahn in less then 5 minutes. Families love the property because of the farm like setting. In the spring we grow and harvest hay. In addition, we have two extremely friendly longhorns and a horse that you can feed from hand. Most nights, deer come to the back of the house and eat from the deer feeder.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The place is beautiful. A 150 year old home, perfectly upkept, decorated with antiques, and with all modernities added, sits on a large lot shaded by huge 200 year old oaks. Guadalupe River tubing and Gruene Historic District for shopping, dining, and great live music is five minutes away. – Jimbeaux, Monroe, LA

  • Welsch's Corner is our rustic room with a 4-poster bed containing an exposed wall showing the original 'fach werk' built in 1856. Animal skins and a trophy deer mount give this room warmth and a kinship to mother nature. Miss Emily's Garden has a vintage Victorian influence complete with antique bed and flowered block quilt bedspread. Three large full length windows look out on a large picture-book oak tree that shades the lush, green landscape on the west side yard. Ella's Attic brings out the child in us all with it's sloped attic style ceiling and red wrought-iron daybed with pull-out trundle bed. Antique children's coats and decorative wall paintings add charm to this darling room. Our self-contained cottage is complete with a king bed, and 2 adult size cots, efficiency size kitchen, and bathroom with shower. A cozy get-away!

Old Fashioned Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed the privelege of staying at the Rock Street Retreat for a memorable holiday. There were 11 of us, ages 73 to 5 and each one had something special to say about the experience.

We often go different places for holidays and this is the first time everyone wants to go back.

A truly great experience. The house is charming, the yard unbelieveable and every amenity is available.

Gruene Estate House and Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Words really can't describe what a charming place the Gruene Estate is! My family and I booked the house and cottage for 3 nights....which wasn't long enough! There were 15 of us total, 8 adults, 7 kids. We were very comfortable, beds for 10 people and others slept on air mattresses (cots and air mattress provided). The place has it all, no detail is overlooked. Amazing. Charm is felt everywhere you go on the property. The beds are super comfy and everything is old fashioned with that extra touch. We enjoyed the use of a fully furnished kitchen and the super large kitchen table served our entire family, it was really nice to have a large area to eat dinner in. We grilled burgers one night on the barbeque pit, fed the longhorns Lucky and Pete and the horse Peyote. The animals were definately an extra we didn't expect. We all enjoyed watching the deer feed morning and night, so peaceful and relaxing. The property itself is so beautiful, lots of chairs outdoors for our entire family to chat in the evenings. We also enjoyed roasting s'mores one evening. My sisters and Mom enjoyed coffee in the early mornings outside watching the deer feed, special times. We enjoyed having so many extras at our fingertips, the owners have thought of everything, (trash bags to shampoo in case you forget) - we appreciated it so much, even though we brought most our own things. Nice to know some of the things you forget were provided. The owners were great, you can tell this place has lots of their heart and soul in it - as it's felt everywhere! Origionally we had thought we would stay right on the river, but after finding the Gruene Estate decided to give it a try. I do not regret it - in fact we will come again and visit and stay longer! An extra perk was that the property was actually within 5 minutes or less to local stores, Walgreens, Landa Park, river, Schlitterbahn, etc. We highly recommend to anyone looking for a stress free and peaceful home away from home vacation!!!! Thank you Katherine and Nolan for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

Great Property!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great and relaxing stay. The property is very clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed sitting outside watching the Long Horns and Horse out in the pasture. In the morning and evening you will find deer eating out under the feeder. We also had a visit from a fox which was very cool. The property is close to everything you will need or what to do. I would recommend this property to a friends or relative.

Warm, Welcoming and Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

When I am looking for a quick getaway, somewhere not too far from my home in Dallas but far enough to feel like I have really "gotten away"...this is where I will come! New Braunfels, nestled in the TX Hll Country, offers the perfect escape with a little something for everyone. It's outdoorsy with plenty of nature to enjoy but there is also plenty of shopping and restaurants and night life nearby. I chose the Gruene Estate on the recommendation of a friend for a quick weekend girls' getaway. It was exactly what we were looking for. It's an old/historical home and has been outfitted and decorated accordingly. It was comfortable and provided all the interior space need for 4 moms and 2 infants. The beds were comfortable and all the linens were fresh & soft. Heaven. The house was incredibly clean which I didn't expect from an older home...I walked around barefoot which I don't even do in my own house. The outside space is large with several areas for breakfast coffee under the giant tress or evening cocktails by the horseshoe pits. It was spring and perfect weather so we spent most of our time outside which was wonderful. The scene is pastoral and beautiful with TONS of deer to watch in the evenings and the resident longhorns & horses looming ever-present. It was relaxing, stress-free, comfortable, convenient, welcoming and entirely pleasant. I HIGHLY recommend GE for a weekend getaway with or without children. And while I haven't attended an event there, the space provided for weddings & parties looks incredible and I wouldn't hesitate to put it on my must-see list for those looking to host a wedding or event in the heart of the hill country.

A perfect girls weekend/getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

Got together with my best girlfriends for a fun and relaxing weekend at the Gruene Estate. It couldn't have been more perfect! The house was clean, comfortable and accomodating. I got two wonderful nights of sleep on a super comfy bed. The kitchen had everything we needed for semi prepared meals, and very close to town for eating out! The weather was perfect so we very much enjoyed all the outdoor sitting areas, especially when gazing out on the longhorns! I highly recommend this property, seems hard to beat for the location, size and comfort!
