Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

The cottage is is a self catering, charming old adobe on a semi-private road high in the Prescott pines. Homey, sweet ole cottage comfort like living on the farm yet only 2.5 miles from downtown Prescott. Well appointed with all the amenities but not a bit pretentious. Bring your soft ole jeans and relax. Remember what it was like to have mom or grandma hang out the sheets on the line and the fragrance of fresh ironed sheets? That's what is waiting for you when you lay down to sleep like a baby in cozy, comfy beds. Quiet nights and a warm fire in the wood stove. You'll be near all the amenities, many hiking trails take you to Goldwater lake very nearby. Walking distance to market just down the street and restaurants and services just 2.5 miles away. Two bedrooms, 1 bath, and sun porch. Cottage is nestled in a bower of trees and seasonal creek in rear, pine forest across the road. My home next door on an acre and the cottage a third of an acre. Waterfall and pond near enough to see and hear. Cottage has Saltillo tile floors and original foot thick adobe walls, cool in summer, warm in winter. Old clawfoot tub/shower, barbeque, all kitchen and bath necessities washer/dryer, Pets are welcome the yard is fully fenced and fresh eggs in the morning from my happy hens (when they are laying in the spring). About Nanci Healey

I lived in Sedona for 18 yrs. My business there was a jeep tour company called Time Expeditions, my partner was an anthropologist we created a cultural and natural history tour to a twelfth century cliff dwelling. We sold the company in l995. I left Sedona for the Pacific Northwest, bought a beautiful property and created a Bed and Breakfast called Small Island Farm and Inn. Six years later moved back to Prescott where my family all resides.

Nanci Healey purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Nanci Healey chose Prescott

My home was adjacent to this wonderful property and tied together they are a unique oasis high in the pines of Prescott.

What makes this cottage unique

The property is close to everything, The square downtown and all the amenities. Markets close by and hiking available through the woods. It's a perfect location and yet so secluded feeling. It's a little oasis in the heart of the town. I have 5 dogs, 2 cats and a dozen chickens. It's a little farm life yet not far from all the necessities.

An Absolutely Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend; The House is full of charm and tastefully decorated. It is nestled in the woods just a little off the road which adds to the serenity. It was cool in the evening so we had the windows open and you could hear the gentle stream nearby and a few crickets which made it even more peaceful. The host greeted us warmly and made us feel at home. The home is absolutely clean and well maintained. Fresh Towels and linens are provided. There is even a television and DVD player with a few DVDs and music CDs provided for your enjoyment while you are there at no charge. There is a washer and dryer for your use with full kitchen and even the spices and herbs were provided. An unexpected treat was the host also provided fresh eggs from her hens every morning. We enjoyed some of the local restaurants including Arizona’s Historic Palace Saloon & Restaurant (since 1877). We also enjoyed the historic district of Whiskey Row and its shops. There are plenty of sites to see nearby and returning to the cottage on Walden in the evening was a great place to relax. We will definitely stay there again.

Cute and charming paradise - a perfect escape

  • 5 of 5

We rented this place to escape the heat of Phoenix, and maybe to discover new things about Prescott. What we found was the perfect sanctuary to get away from it all, and really relax and rest up -- while still pursuing activities. There is so much this place has to offer. Hiking and biking trails nearby, and a short drive to cute lakes for paddle boarding or kayaking. Our dog had a blast in the cute completely fenced garden. One of our favorite things was to sit out in the evening and watch our dog chase squirrels. Deer came by to visit as well. It was so peaceful to sleep with the windows open and hear the sounds of crickets at night, vs. the awful hum of air conditioning units that you hear in Phoenix in the summer. Our hostess was perfect - she thought of everything and the cottage is cozy, charming, clean and comfortable. We would come back in a heart beat.

Fabulous cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had 2 weeks in the Cottage and had a wonderful time. It was very cosy, beautifully appointed, very comfortable and a lovely garden to relax in, just what we needed. Nanci (the owner) lives next door and was absolutely charming. Her chickens visited from time to time and were delightful, and a family of 4 squirrels visited regularly by playing in the trees. The cottage is a hundred yards for the main road so it is very quiet, just the occasional car driving past in the lane. Overall we had a wonderful stay - thank you so much Nanci.

Owner's Response: Thank you both for being such gracious guests. Your visit from London was such a treat for me the most famous guests I have had the privilege to host a visionary in his field of space science. Lovely and gracious guests, thank you Richard and Ruth for choosing the Cottage on Walden.

Great find in Prescott.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a delightful month in this clean, comfortable, cozy cottage. We enjoyed lovely afternoons sitting in the yard reading or playing cards while our dog explored the fenced yard. This area is a hikers and bikers paradise with well marked trails that were easy for us novice hikers to follow. Run-A-Muk is a great kennel for daycare or overnight boarding and is only minutes from the cottage. A must try restaurant is El Gato Azul. A quaint place with delicious food. Lynx Lake Cafe is another nice find and you can walk off your meal with a hike along the lake. Nanci is a wonderful host. She advised us about Prescott and the surrounding areas during casual visits as we all enjoyed a glass of wine. We would recommend this cottage to anyone and plan to return ourselves.

Sometimes you just get lucky!!

Which is what I could call our stay at this sweet cottage in Prescott. The photos are very accurate. The property is peaceful and invites you to grab a favorite book and enjoy the trees and sounds of the outdoors. Our pup loved the place finding many things to sniff and check out. Completely safe and fenced yard! A wonderful week spent here! Very close to downtown and the "sights" of Prescott. The Palace is a "must try" restaurant. Can even take your dog if you don't mind sitting out back. There are numerous trails and hikes to take advantage of nearby.

We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a great vacation.

The Cottage on Walden - A True Oasis

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage on Walden, a unique, lovely oasis on the edge of Prescott, served as our home for a month during our exploration of this lovely city as our new home. Nestled along a creek, the nearby sound of a coyote added to the wilderness feel of the cottage’s location. Nanci, the cottage’s proprietress, is a lovely woman with a warm heart. She served up hospitality from the first electronic connection through the delivery of her hen’s eggs and an invitation to share wine and cheese in her own lovely home. The cottage is comfortable, well-maintained, and is complete in all its amenities. We were fortunate to have found Nanci’s “Cottage on Walden” and to have found our first friend in our new hometown. Thank you, Nanci!
