Perfect Quiet Get Away!
We loved the carriage house! Southwest Harbor is charming and definitely the quiet side. The house is beautiful and a bonus with a fenced yard for our dogs. The property sits back from the street and is very quiet and peaceful. We were able to take the dogs walking around town even after dark. There were so many great places to eat within walking distance, Beal’s (we went daily), Sips, Quietside Cafe, Sawyers Market and the Common Good Soup Kitchen & Cafe for morning coffee and popovers. It’s so easy to find carriage roads, hiking trails and access to Acadia in less than 20 minutes. It was perfect and we’re already planning our trip for next fall. Thanks Barbara and John for letting us enjoy your home! We will be in contact for a return visit in 2019. All the best, Jennifer, Mary, Willow & Pearl
Great house - fantastic location!
Perfect setup for great week away as a couple. Loved Southwest Harbor - quiet but with a lot to do! House is well equipped and we had everything we needed.
Very pleasant well located
This charming tiny cottage is in heart of Southwest Harbor, (the quiet side of Mount Desert Island), and is comfy and unique. Nice, well-equipped kitchen, several outdoor spaces, large bath, very comfy bed. It does have a rather steep spiral stairs that might be difficult for some. Owner is responsive and friendly.
adorable doll house!
Loved this little cottage. Perfect size for 2. Kitchen is terrific and the location is ideal.
Exactly the getaway we were looking for
This property is amazing. It's the perfect size for two looking to escape and relax. John and Barbara are excellent hosts and provide all the necessities. We enjoyed grilling and relaxing in the private garden, opening all the windows at night so we could hear the breeze coming in, and during the day it's just a 20 minute drive to the main part of Acadia. We enjoyed waking up early and going hiking/biking before the crowds. Southwest Harbor is very small, but has lots of restaurants, a market, a bakery, and even a hardware store. It's a great quiet alternative to Bar Harbor.
The house is located 2 miles from Acadia National Park, fresh water swimming, kayaking and hiking and biking. Southwest Harbor is also known as the 'Quiet Side', a quaint little town with unique shops and excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk. The town dock is a 5 minute walk from the house where you can catch the mail boat for a ride out to the Cranberry Isles, or a 5 mile drive to Bass Harbor where a state ferry will take you to Swans Island. A one block walk to the free Island Explorer Bus will connect you to Bar Harbor and all parts of beautiful Acadia National Park.
