(A5) Fully furnished one-bedroom apartment , in a small, quiet complex in the historical village of Gavalohori, 30 minutes drive from Chania. Ideal for a couple but two more can sleep on comfortable double sofa-bed in the lounge. The flat has a covered veranda looking onto the secluded mature gardens and landscaped communal pool but also onto the spectacular White Mountains just beyond. Surrounded by flowers, carob and olive trees in a wonderful rural Mediterranean ambience. 4 minutes walk (350m) from the village square with its traditional coffee shops and tavernas. 6 minutes by car to the famous beach of Almyrida. A perfect location for a relaxing holiday and / or as a launching pad for exploring Crete.
The flat has its own designated parking space.
How to get there:
There are many direct flights to Chania airport 40 minutes away. Alternatively you can fly to Heraklion airport (the main airport of Crete). Heraklion to Gavalochori is about 90 minutes drive. Another option is to get a connecting flight from Athens airport. There are also daily ferries from Piraeus to Souda/Chania port (about 8 hour trip). A car is highly recommended and there are plenty of local car-hiring companies apart from the majors at Chania airport.

About Aris Sacorafos
I come from Cyprus but I spend most of my summers in Crete looking after my Marilena Apartments. I have a holiday home in nearby Vamos village, barely 10 minutes from Gavalohori where MARILENA Apartments are situated... I am the original co-developer of MARILENA complex that was completed in 2008 with the purpose of selling apartments as holiday homes. I have been renting these apartments since 2014 after securing a Greek Tourist Board license. I suppose had it not been for the Greek economic crisis, I would have never converted my apartments into holiday rentals and I would not have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful guests over the last 4 years.

MARILENA Apartments complex consists of 9 one-bedroom apartments of which I currently own 3, the rest having been sold. The apartments were built as holiday homes and all owners visit on average twice a year for about 2 weeks. As such, the complex is never overcrowded nor noisy. The complex is built amphitheatrically around a large landscaped pool with spectacular views of the White Mountains.
What makes this Apartment unique
The apartment is cool, functional, fitted and equipped with all the requirements for a relaxing holiday. Its main feature is undoubtedly the landscaped swimming pool (12mX3m), with strategically placed loungers under the shade of mature olive trees and amazing views of the White Mountains of Chania District. Usually, in early summer you can still see the snow-covered peaks. One rarely has the chance to swim among olive trees and at the same time stare at the breathtakingly beautiful mountains. At MARILENA APARTMENTS you will find yourselves submerged in a quiet, serene environment though only 350m from the village square. The apartment has a covered veranda overlooking the pool, where visitors tend to leisurely spend a lot of their time, enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner or just sitting around enjoying a book and a drink between dips in the swimming pool. Alternatively, the well-known but generally uncrowded beaches of Almyrida and Kalyves are less than 10 minutes away. The centre of the preservation village of Gavalochori is full of excellent little tavernas, close enough to walk to but far enough not to be noisy. If you are the exploring type, Gavalochori is pretty much in the middle of most well-known sightseeing spots, making these easily accessible within short driving time particularly during the busy summer season.

The apartment was comfortable and the location beautiful. Our stay didnt get off to a good start following a mix up with the keys and we were unable to reach any of the 3 fone numbers for about 2 hours. Since it was pouring with rain we had to wait around until we finally contacted the owner.
We loved the village and the scenery and would stay in that locality again.
The apartment, staff, location, the booking arrangements are all perfect. Gavalochori is a fantastic historical village with very few tourists (and then only day trippers passing through). The village tavernas and shops meet all of your needs. The beach is only a 10 minute drive away but is a different World. The flats are very quiet with the most fantastic views, even from ground level. We will return.

Résidence très belle située sur les hauteurs de Gavalochori , petit village typique crétois à quelques kilomètres de belles plages .L'appartement est très grand et fonctionnel,très bien situé pour visiter la partie ouest de la Crète.
Dans le village ,quelques restaurants excellents sur les bons conseils de Aris qui parle très bien le français et qui nous a accueilli .
