Relax in this beautifully decorated lake front cottage on Seneca Lake's west side. Unlike most Seneca Lake rentals, you will have 100 Feet of private, level lake frontage, sitting on almost an acre of land at the end of a private drive. Looking out at the lake from the back deck you will notice that you are at the widest point of Seneca Lake. The cottage is only minutes from most of the region’s premier wineries and a few blocks from the Seneca/Keuka Outlet Trail. You are also a short drive from the towns of Penn Yan, Watkins Glen, Geneva, Hammondsport and Seneca Falls. This cottage is immaculately clean - sleeps 6, and includes a lakeside hot tub, a dock, and 100 ft of level lake frontage. The kitchen and bathroom are meticulously maintained and the entire cottage was completely redecorated just a few years ago (new paint, decor etc.). The cottage is pet friendly and serves as either the perfect romantic honeymoon getaway or family lake vacation. We also do weddings. We are the highest rated accommodation in this area and have earned the Awarded for Excellence every year.

Romantic Destination Weddings: We do creative custom destination weddings, combining our cottage with our country inn, The Savannah House Inn and with a local winery. We still have openings for reservations for weddings in 2010. Plan a reasonable getaway wedding in the heart of the Wine Trail, on the water and at a local winery. Very unique - very cool. Your guests will be talking about it for years.

About Pat Hoke

I'm married with two children (a girl and a boy) and I work with a small technology company in Fairfax County VA. I'm also a partner in a family run inn that sits just 7 miles south of our cottage, overlooking Seneca Lake. I grew up in northern Virginia, outside Washington, DC, and graduated from George Mason University. My family has had a cottage on Seneca since 1930 (my grandparents), and our whole family has a great attachment to the lake. Since I was a child, it was a dream of mine to one day have a place for my own family on Seneca Lake. In 2007 we made that dream a reality, and now we would love to share this beautiful spot with you!

Pat Hoke purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Pat Hoke chose Seneca Lake

I love Seneca Lake and I wanted to have my own cottage, just as others in my family do. This area happens to be one of the most choice locations on the whole lake. It has easy access all year, an awesome view of the lake, lots of privacy, and plenty of land to add on in the future. It's also one of the most convenient locations to the wineries and to shopping.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage sits in such a unique setting, with around 100ft of private, grassy, level lake frontage. It's also very private, with only one distant neighbor. The cottage sits on the widest part of Seneca Lake and because it faces north east, you have an extremely expansive view of the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage was perfect for our Thanksgiving getaway. As newcomers to the area, we had no accomodations suitable for entertaining our out-of-town guests, the parents! The cottage was cozy and quiet but clean and well appointed. The kitchen was spacious and the veiws are awesome. Thanks to Pat for getting our TV glitch sorted out right away; I couldn't imagine a Thanksgiving without football!

Anyone looking for a getaway anytime of the year should look into that cottage. Cheers!

Great location on the water

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time and the owners were great to work with. The particular spot on the water is a slightly protected area with a no wake zone which made it great for paddling around on kayaks all week. This alone would make us choose this spot again. It's 10 minutes from Penn Yan for groceries and a lovely walkable town. The only setbacks were minor... the grill is starting to show some wear and tear (easily solved if you have a camping grill or with a hot dog toast over the fire pit). The bedrooms are right and warm with the doors closed, so if you are travelling with folks where you want tons of privacy, take that into consideration.... for my husband and I it was perfect. I saw a review about the noise next door, but those must have been the lightest sleepers in America because it never bothered us. The kitchen was well stocked, towels and linens clean, and views...perfect!!

Quiet and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time. This time of year is lovely on the lake, and it was very peaceful. I read in some of the reviews people thought the bedrooms were small. They are, but the rest of the house is perfect and we did not spend much time in the bedrooms. The view of the lake and the deck make up for the size of the bedrooms. It was a perfect location for us. Sitting in the hot tub and watching the ducks land on the lake was wonderful.

Relaxing getaway on the water.

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I had a great low key weekend here. We got paddle boards and enjoyed a nice paddle and swim out where the waters a little deeper, topped off with a little hot tub treatment afterwards. It was a great spot to rejuvenate from city life.

Small Town, 15-20 Minutes to Geneva or Watkins Glen, Private but Dated, Close to Best Wineries

  • 2 of 5

My time was enjoyed there and the place had all basic requirements. Just about everything outside of the appliances is at the end of life (kitchen, bath, hot tub, deck, dock). The privacy was really nice, but you are right next to the government research facility. A bit of additional maintenance and amenities would take this from 2 to 3 stars, like weeding around the house and outdoor areas to prevent mosquitoes, a propane grill, dressers in the bedrooms. There isn't really anything in the town of Dresden and I wouldn't eat at the Dresden Hotel or get ice cream at Mr. Twistee. It was situated close to some of the better wineries (Glenora, HJ Weimer, Fox Run and climbing Bines Brewery), which was nice and it's also pretty much right in the middle between Geneva and Watkins Glen - so 15-20 mins in either direction will get you a bunch of dining / bar options. The places enjoyed most were HJ Weimer, Duck Creamery, Lakeside Country Club, Glenora Deck for Lunch, Watkins Glen State Park, feeding ducks from the dock, Climbing Bines Brewery, BBQ in Watkins Glen, Kindred Fare in Geneva, The Port in Geneva, Outlet Trail). If you want FLX table, which we did, you'll need to book months in advance we were added to the wait list and never got a seat. All in all everything was clean and as pictured, but I would not select this location again. They were pet friendly with an additional fee.

Owner's Response: We appreciate guest taking the time to provide so much information about the places he visited. It appears guest is new to the area. The charm and appeal of the Wine Trail here is that it's in a rural area, surrounding very scenic glacier formed lakes, known world wide for their unique beauty. For those familiar with the area, Dresden, one of the few lake front villages in the Finger lakes, is considered one of the most desirable locations on Seneca Lake for a cottage. There are no hills or cliffs - with a couple hundred steps to the water, as is common around the lake; the railroad is at a distance - not by the cottages; only 5 minutes from the nearest town where there is a 24-hour super market, many shops, restaurants, and gas stations; and walking distance to the Outlet Trail and tot lot. Nearby is a Navy marina used for access to the lake and a barge in the center of the lake where they do deep water sonar testing. Nothing is done at the marina. It is quiet all day except for when the new crews ride out to the barge. This property is an acre in size with 100' of lake front - a rarity for a cottage, which also provides great privacy and peace, with a breath taking view of the lake. In the past 2 years every appliance in the kitchen was replaced, except the dishwasher, which was replaced 1 month ago - and the washer and dryer which were replaced last year. The AC unit was replaced this May. The bathroom was redone this May. The living room furniture and large flat screen TV are a year old. The roof was replaced last year. The whole inside was redone a few years ago. The dock was redone 3 years ago. Every year improvements are made. The hot tub will be replaced in the future, but it is doing an excellent job, year around. Unlike about 95% of cottages, Dresden has city water, not a well or lake water. We use a charcoal grill because that is what our guests prefer. We tried a few gas grills, but had to replace them because people were using charcoal in them. If one is used to living in a city, being in the country can be quite a change. But year after year, this cottage has had a steady stream of very nice guests, many of them with experience at other cottages, and they consistently provide mostly 5-star reviews, and return quite often. We have listened to our guests and made improvements based on their comments. In this case, we're not sure how much newer this guest needed things to be in order to feel "at home".

Great area. Many vineyards. House clean. Good beds.

  • 5 of 5

House is located on Seneca Lake. Take in Watkins Glen State Park. House is located about mid point on lake which makes it easy to see the several Finger Lakes.

Bedrooms were tiny but functional. The view was nice and the water was very clear.

Overall I would recommend this place again however just keep in mind the 1 bathroom and small bedrooms. The internet was so slow it wasn't really usable.

Owner's Response: Hi Adam, thank you very much for the review. I'm sorry to hear about the internet! Just as an FYI, we just got it fixed today. Just recently, Time Warner up in the Finger Lakes became Spectrum. I called the new customer service number and explained the internet problem and they told me that because of the switch, I would need to swap out the old modem for a new one (this was the first I had ever heard of this). So, we did that and put the new modem in place. Again, I'm sorry that we weren't able to fix that during or before your stay. Thank you very much for staying with us and we hope you will consider us again in the future.
