This apartment isn’t luxurious but, as the photos suggest, it’s completely refurbished and very clean. It offers a particularly comfortable bed and lots of closet space. It’s in a tall, elegant old apartment building, and it’s QUIET. We had a very relaxing four-night stay.
The apartment is on an upper floor and faces south, so there’s a great view of Hyde Park (but not of Lake Michigan, which is maybe 1/8 mile away, but to the east). An earlier review notes that the Briana bakery on the ground floor has closed, but the “Sip and Savor” coffee house across the street (catty- corner) is convenient for coffee and a scone in the morning if you prefer not to brew your own in the apartment.
Just one thing. Our pre-arrival instructions said to “use fob to open building door,” which I expected to understand when I stood at the door, fob in hand. How was I to know that you TOUCH the fob to the TINY YELLOW LIGHT on the WALL a foot or so from the door? Once you figure that out, or somebody explains it, the light turns green, there’s a click in the door handle, and in you go. I can report that the ZenCity staffers, although not on site, are available and helpful, even to electronically handicapped renters.
Fantastic place to stay in Hyde Park!
The apartment is super clean, bright, and gorgeously minimalist. Close to major bus routes (6, 28), a stone's throw from the lake, and right above the scrumptious Fabiana's Bakery. Also close to the great restaurants and boutiques on 53rd St too. When I arrived I found the apartment too hot (there is an air conditioner in the living room but I found it wasn't getting through to the bedroom). I texted the folks at ZenCity, who were super prompt and helpful. Within 36 hours I had a new a/c unit in the bedroom! I *highly* recommend renting from ZenCity--their customer service is superb. The next time I'm in Chicago I'll definitely be staying with them.
