About Helene Orsulak

We are retired boomers who live in Denver when not enjoying our home in Hana.

Helene Orsulak purchased this house in 2000

Why Helene Orsulak chose Maui

Though we were not in the market for property, the previous owner offered it for sale to his tenants of the previous year. We enjoyed our stay so much, we bought the place!

Heaven for real

  • 5 of 5

This really is heaven bundled up in a beautiful home on the coast of Hana. It is remote, quiet, peaceful, relaxing, and meditative. It transfers you back in time a bit before cell phones and the major hussle of life. It really gets you to focus on what's most important for however long you are lucky. My sister and I were lucky enough to spend 10 days here and each day was a gift. I loved the nightly monsoon's in the middle of the night which woke you up just long enough to appreciate it and then drift back to sleep. I already miss the outdoor shower. I never once showered indoors! I did use the tub though because as a tall lady not many tubs actually let me lay down. I could have slept in the tub it was so big and comfy. I read until all the water was cold and even then I had to top it off a bit because I didn't want to get out yet. Since Hana is a quiet town at night the new TV system was nice to have. Watching all the shark week episodes with a good drink and/or popcorn really was a lot of fun and a good way to relax at night. The property is so well maintained and Tom the maintenance guy was a treat to talk to. He made us feel safe and welcome and always told us when he'd be back on the property. He left us avocado treats :) The lanai was also great place to hang out, eat, read, nap, plan the next get the point. Use it especially since it is fully screened it and man those mosquitos can be vicious. I highly highly recommend staying here and all at the same time I want to keep it a secret so I can go back whenever I have time! I have no doubt that I will get lucky enough to walk through those amazing screen doors again with a huge smile on my face :) Thank you so much for opening your beautiful home to the world and congratulations on your new grandchildren!

Beautiful Property and House

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for three nights but would have liked to stay at least a week. The house was the cleanest of any VRBO rental I ever stayed at and had newer amenities all upper end in terms of appliances, bathroom, furniture and patio. Note the patio is very large and completely enclosed in with screens. We ate all our meals out on the patio table. Also two very comfortable chairs to relax on the patio/Lanai I have stayed in many nice VRBO rentals but this one was my favorite. I really liked the house, the location of the and the property close to Hana but not in town, and the grounds.

The house sits high on about 8 acres with Hawaiian flowers and various fruit trees was a delight to walk around and observe nature and all of this is completely private from neighbors. Driveway setback from the road far enough for it to be quiet and hidden. From the lanai there is a slight Ocean view but the trees and grounds were what makes this house spectacular.

Arrival was easy since we did not have to deal with any check-in desks and there was a very nice fresh floral arrangement on the dining table and a large basket of fruit with fresh bananas, lemons, papaya, etc. on the kitchen island. The house also was equipped well with basics such as olive oil, spices and some items in the refrigerator that were still fresh probably from a previous guest.

We really enjoyed the outdoor shower and used that exclusively. The indoor shower and separate tub area is shared with both bathrooms and is a very large room and nicely done but had no windows. So if any improvement to design for this house it would be to have some natural light in the indoor shower area. Other benefits were that it was within walking distance of a fresh fruit stand vendor that had a nice selection for a reasonable prices.

Clearly if available I would stay here again on a future trip to Maui. However this is not a location if you want access to typical tourist attractions and restaurants. If you like nature, peace and quite, and hiking in the Hana area this is the ideal place to stay.

Tropical Paradise

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to describe the serenity and beauty of this property. There are 8 acres of orchards and jungles surrounding the home giving you the feeling like you are on your own private resort. The ocean can be seen in the distance from the comfort of the screened in wrap-around lanai. The home is quiet and comfortable with every convenience you can possibly need. After swimming at a local beach or hiking through the national parks you can return and enjoy an outdoor shower while enjoying the sounds of nature. We also really enjoyed the professional-grade stove and kitchen the entire stay. On top of a great property, both the owner and property manager are extremely responsive and helpful. We wouldn't consider another trip to Maui without first confirming that this property was available to stay in!

Very nice and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I travelled with another couple and spent five days/four nights here. This was our first trip using VRBO's, so we were a little nervous, but Helene and this house didn't disappoint. The pictures were accurate and the house is very nice! We would open all the windows/doors in the late afternoon, except the screens, turn the fans on and relax in the screened porch overlooking the property. There is no air conditioning, but with the fans going it cooled down nicely at dark and was comfortable. Very large and well equipped kitchen. Master bedroom was huge! 2nd bedroom was good size as well with each bedroom having it's own bathroom, but a shared inside shower/garden tub in the middle with locking sliding doors on both sides. And we can't forget to mention the outdoor shower. What a great idea when coming back after a hike or the beach and go straight into the shower so dirt and sand didn't come into the house. We used it every day. Several different types of fruit trees on property. Banana, Coconut, huge avocado and they were fantastic!, Nuts, star fruit, papaya etc. If you're looking to get away from people or enjoy hiking, this is the place for you. We would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you Helene!! Chris and Jen

It really is heavenly!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and loved every minute of it! It is perfect if you are looking for seclusion, quiet, and romance and are not intetested in resorts, shopping and crowds. The house is beautiful, clean and fully equipped/stocked. Check in and communication couldn't have been simpler.

The house is completely secluded and the outdoor shower is lovely! The indoor shower and tub are very large and beautiful as well. The kitchen is large and includes everything you need to create wonderful meals. Roaming the property and picking fruit was amazing. It was so peaceful sleeping with the windows open and listening to the breezes and the strange, almost chirping noise the geckos make. The view from the lanai of the property and a bit of the ocean over the tree tops was surreal.

There is a banana bread stand across the street and also clay oven pizza that operates on Fri and Sat, that were both delicious. Hana Fresh Farm down the road has delicious breakfast and coffee as well. Huli Huli Chicken at Koki beach on Sundays was so amazing and the people were super friendly. There are plenty of great food options if you don't want to cook every meal.

If you want to stay away from the resorts and really experience Hawaii and it's beautiful landscape Hana is the place for you and this property is a perfect home base to see and experience everything Hana has to offer. Hamoa Beach, Red Sand Beach, the Pools at Oheo, and every other startlingly beautiful landmark in Hana are just a short drive. We didn't want to leave Hale Heavenly Hana and would love to make staying here a tradition! I would recommend it to anyone!
