About Ken Bloch

For the last 20 years I have been a full-time Realtor, currently with Keller Williams Realty in Charlotte, NC. Specializing in the Lake Norman area about 20 miles north of Charlotte. Over the years I have learn location, location location are the 3 most important words in real estate. I strongly feel that I have a great central location to all the activities you will want to do on your visit to the High Country. Come spend sometime at my cabin and find out for yourself!

Ken Bloch purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Ken Bloch chose Blowing Rock

Being a Realtor I know that LOCATION is key when buying Real Estate. I spent several years looking for the perfect cabin in the perfect location and I finally found it. The Crystal Mountain neighborhood is well hidden but easy to get to yet it's conveniently located 6-7 miles from Blowing Rock, Boone, Valle Crucis (home of the Original Mast General Store) and many other nearby amenities including Boone Golf Course, which is open to the public, numerous great places to hike, Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, and Banner Elk.

What makes this cabin unique

Peace and quite, beautiful views, nature (a good chance you will see deer or turkeys) all of the great amenities I have added to the cabin including pool table, hot tub, 60 inch Plasma TV to watch your favorite sports team or Blue Ray for movies, TV's in every bedroom, some with DVD's and a 40" Flat Panel LED Smart TV & DVD player in family room. You won't be roughing it here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As ASU grads, we have been coming "home" to Boone with our family for years. This cabin has been, by far, the best place to stay. The location is perfect. It seems like the middle of nowhere, but it's only about 10 minutes to the 105/421 intersection in Boone, and 15 minutes to Blowing Rock. We wore the kids out at Appalachian Ski Mtn. one day and Hawksnest the next, made spaghetti dinners one night, steaks the next, and put the kids to bed. The best part... the adults could stay up, talk, watch a movie, or play pool with no worries about waking the little ones. And the hot tub on the deck, what a great way to wind down. You can't do that in any of the hotels in Boone or B&B's in Blowing Rock!! I would definitely recommend to anyone from a group of adults getting away, to families with small kids. We had 8 people which included 4 kids aged 5 to 8 and had plenty of room. The house was spotless when we got there and the owner was extremely quick in returning the deposit. Great, great vacation!!

Nice but things to know in advance...

  • 3 of 5

This is a nice house, but we also found it not clean. The owner said he'd look into it, but I see from a review a month later the same issue persists. There is NO WAY this house is wheelchair accessible, as the listing indicates. There are many stairs to get in and out of the house and no ramps. Also, it's very remote and would be hard to find in the dark, and you have to bring everything you could conceivably want to use, including toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, paper towels, dish towels, etc. It does have a kitchen with plates and silverware. We didn't bring laundry soap because it was a short trip, but then we couldn't wash sheets that were on the beds that were clearly dirty or the towels, which were not clean and smelled bad even before we used them. On the positive side, the owner is nice and quickly responded to a question while we were there.

Owner's Response: I'm not sure which guest wrote this review because this is an anonymous review and the arrival date given doesn't match my records as a arrival date. If there is ever an issue with cleanliness and I am aware of it, I can contact the housekeeper for a return visit to address the items. I only have one step from the driveway onto the deck, which you can then enter the cabin and everything you would need is on that level (kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom). Most mountain cabins are in remote areas and I give very detail directions to my cabin. Many guests have come when it's dark and no one has ever called me to say I can't find your cabin. I also give a very detail list of cabin instructions and what you need to bring which is emailed to each guest so there should be no surprises if the instructions are read. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, glassware, plates, etc. I am sorry that this guest had a bad experience but they were made aware of the items needed to bring before arrival.

Great amenities and great view!

  • 4 of 5

I came to this cabin with a group of 9 people. We all immediately loved the look and feel of the cabin, and I especially loved having a pool table for the weekend! The view was beautiful and I loved drinking my coffee while taking it in in the cool weather in the mornings. All in all, it was a fun stay and a great cabin.

We did, however, run into some problems: 1) the cabin did not look like it had been cleaned all that thoroughly before we came in (we let the owner know and he said he'd look into it), 2) the septic tank was apparently full and we had to run to close the windows every time someone showered (but we were apparently the first ones to tell the owner this), and 3) the lack of A/C was not clearly pointed out anywhere on the cabin's description page (and I just checked again to be 100% sure). This last one, in my opinion, is inexcusable and we would have docked more than one star had the weather been just a bit warmer. We were very fortunate that we went just a week or two after the recent blazing hot temperatures in NC dropped to a more comfortable level, but if we hadn't, it would have been a rough weekend.

Again, we loved the cabin and would love to use it again. We just wouldn't go anywhere near it during the hot NC summer months.

Owner's Response: I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and would stay again. I can understand guests coming from another area and not realizing the temperatures are much cooler in the NC mountains because of the elevation. This cabin has an elevation of almost 4000 ft. so the summer temperatures rarely get above 79 degrees during the day and then they drop into the 60's at night. I like most people would prefer to sleep with the windows open at night and be able to go outside to breath the fresh air in the summer time. This is a great place to do that. The cabin has 5 ceiling fans and 3 moveable box fans in case of extreme heat. Thank you for letting me know about the septic tank I did have it checked out the day after you left and it was full so they pumped it out while they were there. It would have been done during your stay had it not been a holiday weekend. - Ken

Owner's Response: Yes, it's very quite neighborhood. Only 2 homes live there year round. All the others are 2nd homes that are used very sparingly. Happy to hear you would stay again. Ken

Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a very restful time as a family of 8. The cabin looked just like the pictures. We really enjoyed the wood fireplace, wrap around porch, hot tub, downstairs movie room, large dining table, and having multiple floors for family activities. We stayed 7 nights and cooked every meal at the cabin. There is some excellent hiking within an hour. Our recommendations are Little Lost Cove Cliffs Trail, Gragg Prong, and Huntfish Falls (especially when the weather is warm enough to swim). Thanks to Ken for doing a great job maintaining the cabin. We'd return for sure.

Very nice place!!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property as one of two locations for a large family reunion. The house is really nice! We really enjoyed the large porches and nice views. It's in a good location - relatively close to Boone, but still nice and quiet. We were there in the peak of summer, so at times AC would have been nice, but it's pretty uncommon for the area. Overall, really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back!

The house is a wonderful house. It is very big and has alot of space.

Overall we enjoyed out stay. There were some problems but only one that really bothered us. The hot tub was not working. I contacted Ken and he contacted the spa company. That day a service man came out. He was very nice and knowledgeable. He replaced a fuse but he also commented the pump needed replacing due the noise it was making. Not 30 minutes after he left it stopped working again. We did not get to use the hot tub at all. Ken did allow us to stay late on the day we checked out.

The area is nice, driveway is very steep and very limited parking area.

All in all the house was nice and our trip was very enjoyable.

Owner's Response: I am happy to hear you and your family were able to enjoy your stay. From time to time things do break and I address them as soon as possible, but I am at the mercy of the repair companies scheduling and them having the needed parts in stock. In this case a new pump had to be ordered but it's back up and working now. Inclined driveways are pretty common in the mountains and I do have parking for 4-5 vecihles. Ken
