Designers own completely renovated year-round getaway cottage on a quiet country road. The sun filled one-level, 2 bedroom, 2 full bath, house is situated on over 3 acres of open fields which provide sublime vistas of the surrounding protected farmland and forest. Enjoy the amazing sunsets as you relax on the large deck overlooking a meadow and meandering creek. In the warmer months, cook dinner on the charcoal BBQ grill and dine alfresco under the wisteria-covered pergola. In the winter, sit by the fireplace in the great room and relax from a day of fun in the snow. As evening approaches, drive 8 minutes to the thriving town of Hudson, pick up your houseguests at the Amtrak station, and head out for a dinner at one of many wonderful restaurants.
The great room, with cedar walls and vaulted ceiling, has 12 large windows and a glass door that opens out to the deck. In the summer/spring with all the windows open wide, and screens in place, the room becomes an elegant screened-in porch. This room also serves as the dining area, with a large, round slate table that easily sits 6 to 8. The daybed, situated in a corner of windows, easily converts to a twin bed.
One who loves to cook created the kitchen. It contains a stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher, a Viking gas range and range-hood, stainless steel shelves and an antique butcher block island. A coffee maker, toaster, and all utensils and cookware necessary to cook a gourmet meal are provided. There is dishware and silverware service for 10. In the warmer months, four superb farm stands are within a 5-minute drive.
In the living room, there is a full size couch, a large coffee table, and two matching chairs. There is an antique Japanese tansu that holds board games and additional storage.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed, bedside tables and reading lights, a full hanging closet and antique Japanese tansu for clothing storage. A glass door leads out to the back deck. The contemporary en suite master bath has limestone floors and a large soaking tub.
The guest bedroom has a twin trundle bed (which converts to either two twins or a queen), a full hanging closet for clothes, and is just around the corner from the full guest bath in the hall.
The deck has a table with four chairs, two Adirondack chairs with footrests and two wood chaises with cushions.
The house is 2 hours from NYC, 10 minutes from the Taconic Parkway.
The Amtrak train trip from New York’s Penn Station to Hudson is exactly 2 hours.
Loved the house, well maintained and fully equipped. The only drawback is you half to get up early on the day you leave to do the laundry before you have to leave. Will still rent again.
Could not have been happier with this rental. It's very clean, beautifully decorated, lots of great books & games, a toasty fire place...the list goes on. We made dinner in the well-stocked kitchen, spent the morning in Hudson, and had a delicious (pricey) dinner in town. Love that the house is so close to downtown, but also feels wonderfully remote. I went for a jog on Saturday and probably encountered only 5 cars.
Re: Food: Fish & Game was very expensive for dinner; it's a lovely setting, but the food didn't quite justify the cost. Same with Olde Hudson—this is a specialty shop in town that has most groceries, but everything is very $$$. Suggest bringing food from your local grocery or stopping at the Price Chopper. Bonfiglio & Bread, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious and reasonable—definitely go for a light breakfast (& pastries!).
Note: You are asked to wash sheets & towels—easy, as there's a new washer and dryer in the basement. But make sure you leave time!
Can't wait to return.
Immaculate, stylish, well-stocked and conveniently located to downtown Hudson, this home is the perfect getaway for those looking to decompress and enjoy the Hudson Valley's natural surroundings. We are grateful to the home's owners for their willingness to host our pet and for accommodating our request for an early check in. This is now our second visit and we hope to return many times over.
Our group so enjoyed this cabin in the Hudson Valley. We found the accommodations to be incredibly clean and well maintained. The kitchen was a particular highlight for us, as it was well equipped with a wide variety of pots, pans and small wares and was spacious enough to accommodate group cooking projects. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculate and we especially appreciated the owners design aesthetic. We would recommend this home without hesitation and hope to have the opportunity to return back at a later date.
This beautiful cottage just south of Hudson NY was immaculately clean and very comfortable. It is surrounded by farms (and farm stands) and is a quiet and comfortable retreat as you are exploring the magnificent Hudson River Valley. We travelled as far south as The Bronx--to New York Botanical Garden and Wave Hill and as far north as Albany to visit Albany Institute of Art and Schuyler Mansion. We spent a memorable day in Hyde Park, paying our respects to FDR and Eleanor as well as the Culinary Institute of America. We visited the closest site to the house--Olana, the incredible home and studio of Frederic Edwin Church, and the home of his teacher Thomas Cole across the river at Catskill NY. Hudson NY is a most pleasant place to walk, shop and window shop, and dine and is just a ten minute drive from the cottage. The kitchen is quite impressive and is a special bonus for those who enjoy eating "at home" while on holiday. I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling to the Hudson River Valley!
There is so much to appreciate! My favorite is the quiet, magnificent views from every window, then there is the feeling of comfort and thoughtfulness throughout the house. The town of Hudson is 8 min away. Altogether a place to live not just visit!
