About the property

Prime position 1 bed cottage with parking permit, adjacent to beach & amenities

New to the market in 2015, Crabpot Cottage is an immaculately presented, characterful property containing everything a couple needs for a relaxing break at the seaside including sea views and the best location in Beer. For all stays we offer a free parking permit and welcome hamper of local produce for our guests.

Available all year round, this property offers stays of 7 days or more, with Saturday changeovers, as well as short breaks and flexible arrival days in the low season (October to December).

Crabpot Cottage received amazing feedback from all its guests in 2015 (see reviews) and we look forward to welcoming lots of repeat guests and new guests this year too.

One of only 3 houses within Beach Court, the property was originally built in 1903 and used as a holiday home for the renowned opera singer Dame Clara Butt. In 1918 the property became a hotel before being converted in the 1990s into a small collection of houses and apartments which can be found today.

Crabpot Cottage offers guests a holiday home in simply one of the best locations in Beer. 50 metres from the beach and slipway, this sunny, south facing cottage has a large double bedroom with Beer stone window seat offering views down to the sea. The room was refurbished in November 2015 with new carpets and soft furnishings. It features a King size bed with white Egyptian cotton bedding and 24inch flat screen HDTV with dvd, walk in wardrobe and cd/radio. Also upstairs is the large bathroom with electric shower, bath, wash basin and WC.

Downstairs the cottage has a gorgeous cosy sitting room and dining area facing the slipway and beach. Comfortably furnished to a high standard including a flame effect log fire, 32inch flat screen HDTV with dvd and a contemporary dining area. There is also a well equipped kitchen with electric cooker, fridge, microwave, washing machine and modern appliances throughout.

New ROINTE digital radiators and towel rails have been installed throughout and ALL ELECTRICITY, HEATING, BED LINEN AND TOWELS ARE INCLUDED IN PRICE as we think our guests don’t want to worry about these things when on holiday!

We love Beer and look forward to sharing this magical part of the world with you. We’re on hand to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible and can advise on things to do and see if you wish.

Heaven on Earth. We fell in love with this property due to its amazing location, sea views and the feeling of relaxation that washes over you as you walk through its door/

Guestbook comments from the owner

After 20 years of holidaying in cottages around Devon and Cornwall, this is the nicest we have stayed in.

The comfort and more importantly the cleanliness is second to none.

The car park pass and welcome pack are lovely touches.

For somewhere special to eat, or as we did take afternoon tea, Combe House Hotel at Gittisham is well worth a visit.

Thanks for a lovely week.

What an amazing place.

  • 5 of 5

Crab pot Cottage was absolutely beautiful, it was a pleasure to return too after our trips out. It was cosy and tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Had everything we needed, just perfect. The location of the property was fantastic and so close to the beach. The village of Beer was stunning and would highly recommend staying here. We had a welcome hamper upon arrival which was full of lovely treats that was a lovely touch. Would highly recommend you would not be disappointed.

Cosy crab pot cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage well equipped and homely with nice touches throughout including practical things such as car park ticket. Great location in the heart of the village and so close to the sea too. Good weather always helps but I'm sure it would be good to be here any time of the year. A great place for a nice relaxing holiday for us and our dog. I'm sure we will return!

Just like May, it was delightful on our return and still just as we expected.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in exactly the right location and just right for the two of us. Everything that is needed is provided. Jodie was very helpful and always available on text if needed. The local countryside is great and Beer provides its own share of eateries and places to visit. Crabpot is warm and comfortable, ideal for one or two weeks stay.

An immaculate cottage in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Crabpot Cottage for a week and it was exactly what we thought it would be. The property is ideally located being central to all the town has to offer and only about 25 yards from the slope down to the beech. On arrival the property was spotlessly clean and we met the owner Jodie and her young daughter when we we given the key and details of where to find what in the area.

The living room and kitchen are good in size and the lounge even has local photos blown up to make not just pictues but wall paper too. The kitchen is well presented and has all the things you would expect to find.

Upstairs the bedroom is large and airy with curtains and a blind, everything being well looked after. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding of good quality plus there is a choice of duvet TOG if its gets to warm or cold (we'd not come across that before). There is a good size bathroom with quality fittings and again pictures of how Beer used to be.

Would definately recommend plus Jodie will allow a small well behaved dog who, on this occasion, thoroughly enjoyed himself too.

Such a lovely stay in Beer in such a beautiful cottage. Had everything we needed. Great lounge area, kitchen was fully equipped, great bathroom, the bedroom was lovely too and the bed was so comfy. The complimentary goodies in the basket added a great touch, along with the parking permit. They where greatly appreciated. We had such an amazing holiday. Couldn't have wanted for anything more. Thank you, Leanne and Stephen. P.s Stephen proposed on Beer Beach and I said YES - Leanne

The delightful East Devon fishing village of Beer is located on the World famous Jurassic coast. Beer is steeped in history, with the sea and fishing being central to village life. Infamous for smuggling and lace making in days gone by, today local families and visitors alike love Beer for its picturesque village charm and sheltered beach. For a small village Beer has a lot to offer!

A delightful narrow brook runs through the village trickling down to the sea, passing stone cottages, art galleries (exhibiting a vast collection from both local and national artists), independent shops, restaurants, pubs, wine bars and cafes.

Beer's sheltered pebble beach is a natural suntrap, where you can enjoy lunch or a cream tea at one of the many beach cafes or simply take your fish and chips to one of the many deckchairs and watch the sunset. There are self-drive motor boats and fishing trips during the summer season where budding fishermen can try to catch a mackerel or even a sea bass. Others may enjoy exploring the rock pools beneath the chalk cliffs. If you are visiting Beer in August then keep an eye out for Regatta week which includes a packed programme of events to suit all ages including raft races, traditional lugger racing, scavenger hunts, barrel rolling and a firework display.

Whilst in Beer, why not explore the South West Coastal Path and walk over the cliff from Beer to nearby Branscombe where you can visit the National Trust working forge or sample the locally brewed Branscombe Ale at one of the local pubs. Alternatively continue walking and you will reach the Regency seaside town of Sidmouth, famous for its folk festival in August and beautiful gardens and observatory. Heading east, you can wander over the cliff to Seaton, the site of the new £4 million Seaton Jurassic visitor centre, which opens in 2015. A visit to the viewing hides at Seaton Marshes Nature Reserve is a must to observe numerous birds including; herons, oyster catchers and little egrets, and you may even glimpse the local otters or water voles. The Seaton Tramway also travels through the wetlands to the medieval town of Colyton for those feeling less energetic. 7 miles further east is the Dorset town of Lyme Regis with its sandy beach, where you can enjoy a spot of fossil hunting or wander around the vintage shops and numerous speciality food outlets.

Attractions around Beer include: the beautifully designed Pecorama gardens and Beer Heights Light Railway where you can ride the narrow gauge passenger train whilst taking in the views down the valley towards the sea. Beer Quarry Caves can also be found on the outskirts of the village and offer guided tours around these famous caves which supplied stone for the Tower of London and Windsor Castle. Other attractions within easy reach include The Donkey Sanctuary, (free admission), Bicton Gardens and Abbotsbury Swannery, Killerton House (headquarters of the National Trust). There are also 2 cinemas and indoor swimming pools in the nearby towns.

For those wishing to dine out, there are plenty of places to eat in the village. The two main pubs (Anchor Inn and The Dolphin) have both been completely refurbished in 2014. The Anchor boasts a delightful beer garden next to the slipway with fantastic views across the bay. Steamers Bistro can be found down one of the side streets and is open all year round serving local fish and Mediterranean inspired dishes. Osborne’s coffee and wine bar (new for 2014) is open 7 days a week until 11pm, serving light bites and tapas. There is also an Italian and an Indian restaurant in the village. For a special treat, why not try Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen (8 miles away) or Mark Hix’s Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis.
