CLOSED FOR YEAR OF 2016.
Our cottage is located right on Pentwater Lake in a quiet community very close to state land. Beautiful fall color views over the lake. We are in a no wake zone on a bay in the lake, which is perfect for water activities. There is room for 2-3 cars in front of the garage. Then there is a nice area of yard between the garage and house for playing. Down by the water is another nice area of yard to play. On the main level, there is the kitchen, dining room, family room, screened in porch, one bathroom, and one bedroom (1 bunk bed and 1 king). Downstairs there is one bathroom, one bedroom (1 Full), and a family room/bedroom (2 bunk beds, 1 queen sleeper couch). There is a TV with DVD/VCR upstairs and a TV with VCR downstairs. The TV's do not have a box for channels. There is a BBQ grill and a fire pit for use outside. Linens & towels are available. There is a paddle boat and row boat available also. Boats are available for rent at Parrots Landing. They will deliver for you too!
The photos on VBRO for this cottage must be from years ago. It is not like this at all. Also the good comments on here must be from before the house flood.
We rented this cottage on Pentwater Lake from 8-8-15 through 8-14-15. The description of this cottage is very misleading. Rustic is one thing, but this cottage is not maintained or kept up at all. The cottage was filthy when we arrived. We spent hours cleaning on the first day there, because of the filth and bugs. Among many other things, bloody tissues were on the living room floor, the couch was packed with food and wrappers, the floors were heavily stained and not vacuumed, spider webs and dead bugs were all over throughout the cottage, and the refrigerator/ freezer was dirty and had food left in it. The basement smelled horribly musty and there was a terrible spider problem there. We were well aware that there would be several stairs down to the lake, which we would not mind at all if they were kept up. The area leading from the side of the cottage to the back was really overgrown and the cement block stairs were cracked, uneven and unsafe. The forty stairs to the lakefront were a deathtrap! Those steps are extremely steep, old, and not maintained. The steps are cement from many decades ago. The front of each step was dirt but it appeared that it has washed out over the years, making the steps uneven. Metal flashing was placed on the front of the step, likely to keep the dirt from washing out. The metal came up above the cement step, which catches your foot each time. Many of the metal pieces were pulled out and bent, causing a huge tripping hazard. My child even cut her leg on this metal. There was an area in the kitchen floor leading to the bathroom that was rotted out and soft. Black mold was all over in both bathrooms, especially ceiling of the main floor bathroom. The lower bathroom actually has a hole in the wall and dirt falling in. The ramp on the dock was completely rotted out and caused a couple falls while we were there. The neighbors were pleasant even though they were very frustrated with the condition of the rental. We were told there was a major flood from a frozen pipe in the cottage, which would explain many of the issues inside. This cottage is in desperate need of repair.
The house was set up nicely for two families, plenty of sleeping space while still leaving room to function in the home. The location is great, close to town. The lake view was great.
Be prepared most homes on Pentwater Lake require a lot of stair climbing to get to the water.
All in all provided a great place to stay for two families.
This is a great location in a quiet cove of Lake Pentwater. Kids loved playing with the paddle boat and row boat. Easily accommodated our two families and the kids loved having the community room on the lower level to congregate. Rustic charm!
We enjoyed this nice lake cottage on Lake Pentwater. It was a nice relaxing/quiet retreat high above Pentwater Lake. The cottage reminds me of the summer camps I went to when I was a teenager but much better. The location on Pentwater Lake is on a portion of the lake called Bayou Bay. The cottage is at the end of a bay which makes the location very protected. It has a nice dock for your own boat to be moored. If you bring your boat with, as we did, the location of the dock is well away from other boat traffic. This means your boat will have very little movement from the wake of other boats and any storms which could kick up the waves in other areas of the lake. If bringing a boat make sure you state that in your request to rent so dock space is available. Pentwater Lake also has very nice access to Lake Michigan, if your boat is large enough to take out on the big lake, via a large canal built by the US Corps of Engineers many years ago. There are a lot of very nice lake-going boats which come into the marina to moor for the evening, get something to eat, access the grocery store, or get fuel for their boats. The bay the cottage is located on also makes it very quiet at all times of the day. The views out the back of the cottage from the large windows or screened in porch are fantastic. Early mornings are the best views with the morning sunshine hitting the bay and hill across the bay and washing the area across from the cottage with sunshine. The only drawback I found with the cottage is the steps going up and down from the cottage to the back yard and dock area. There are 40 steps and they are steep. If you use your boat multiple times in a day, as we sometimes did, you will get your aerobic workout using these steps. ;-) While there were only three of us who visited, this cottage can sleep a number of people with two bedrooms with comfortable beds, multiple bunk beds, a pullout couch, a air large mattress, and a futon. One thing to note is Verizon cell service is very limited in the town and area surrounding Pentwater. For us it was a good thing. We were able to get away from it all. Also, there is no access to network TV but you have two TVs you can watch videos on. There is also a radio provided with a CD player to get local information as needed. As I said before, for us this was a good thing to get away from it all for a week, recharge our batteries, celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and spend time boating. ;-)
This cottage was a very nice place to stay. The renters are great to do business with and showed us wonderful hospitality. The stairs to the water are a little bit of a chore, but otherwise this is a great place to stay for a vacation.
WE ARE CLOSED FOR THE YEAR 2016. Thank you.
