Children under 2 years of age are free with a crib.

The property had the most wonderful views. My husband, myself and my 2 teenage daughter stayed for one week and loved everyday. The house was spacious, very clean and well equipped. Bonita met us right on time and was very helpful. She guided us to some adventures and gave us a rundown of the island. Pointing out some great hikes etc. It was very nice because I felt like we had a contact there if we had any questions, problems or concerns. We had relaxing breakfasts on the patio every morning, along with several dinners with wine while watching the sunset, absolutely beautiful. It is a lovely town to walk around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are a couple markets and restaurants within walking distance. But once things close you are pretty much stuck, we got back late one night and missed dinner, we did have snacks in the house though. We happened to be there for Bonita and Ed's annual music evening and were lucky enough to hear Rafael Carvalho play the viola. What a great evening!
I would definitely recommend the property especially if you just want to be somewhere to relax. We went exploring most days, so a little on the downside was driving back each day, the road to Mosterios is winding (especially when you are not used to it) and seems long, although it is only about 35 minutes from the airport.
We enjoyed the place very much and hope to return.
Bonita is zeer behulpzaam.
We have rented apartments or villas in many places around the world. Maria's home by the sea has the loveliest view of all. And Maria is the best home owner we have known.
The duplex villa is birght, open and airy and has everything you need for a home away from home. The view of the sea and sunsets from the terrace are incredible. The location is convenient to shopping, buses and town activities. We were delighted to experience two days of a town festival and also took in the events of an Island election. (The candidates all came by the house and one,the eventual winner, even came up on the terrace for a picture that he said would be posted on his Facebook page!) We appreciated the proximity to one of the prettiest place on the island, Cete Cidades, where we did a number of really extraordinary hikes. (go throught TUNNEL but bring a headlamp!)
But the best part of the whole Azores experience was getting to know Maria. She was helpful beyond all expectations, and FUN. Often she lefts little gifts of figs or vegetables from her garden at the back door. She answered questions, made valuable suggestions and took a real interest in the happiness of our stay. We've never met anyone quite like her. To be fair, the people of Mosteiros and the Azorians in general were delightful, but Maria topped them all.
We travelled around the island a good bit, but never saw anywhere we thought could compare to our little villa by the sea.
Although we had only a week on Sao Miguel, we quickly felt at home in this lovely holiday house. Maria provided us with the warmest hospitality imaginable, including a delicious welcome package that was highly appreciated after a late arrival. We enjoyed playing cards with her in the evening and benefited from a thorough explanation of where to find what in Mosteiros. The house provided all necessary amenities and we were particularly fond of sitting on the patio, taking in all facets of village life, activities in the small fishing harbour, and the wonderful sunsets. Its location makes this house a great starting point for strolls to the sandy beach, the rock pools, or a short drive up to the magical scenery at Sete Cidades.
Read the other reviews for this rental and you will find all the great things that I could say about it. What I want to point out is Maria’s secret weapon. Maria was called away to Lisbon just before we arrived, so she left her friend Di to be her stand-in. What a delightful person to deal with. She was very helpful with anything we asked of her. Because she seemed to be related to many of the people in Mosteiros, we immediately had family there. I felt that we had made lifelong friends with Di and her husband after only a few days. All of the people in Mosteiros were friendly and a cheerful. “Bom Dia” was exchanged with most as they walked past our front patio daily. The front patio was a great place to sit in the morning with that first cup of coffee and in the evening with a glass of wine. The nitty gritty parts: The accommodations were suburb. The location was fantastic. The island is a scenic wonder. The people are wonderful. Even the small dogs running around were entertaining to watch. If you go to the Fabrica Ceramica in Ribeira Grande early in your visit, you may be able to have some custom tiles made up to take home with you. Prices are reasonable and they try to please. While there, a trip to the Alabote Restaurante down by the ocean is well worth it. The food is great, the view pleasant and the staff is friendly and efficient. While there is much to see on Sao Miguel, we spent more time each day back at our haven by the sea, the Casas do Porto. We needed our “unwind time” each day to enjoy the sea and sunsets. We did meet Maria before we left and she was as gracious as the other reviewers have indicated. I really can’t imagine a more enjoyable two weeks than we experienced and want to thank Maria and Di for a memorable vacation.
Firstly this is probably the best location in the whole of Sao Miguel. The house is right by the sea, looking across the harbour and bay to Mosteiros’ famous rocks offshore. A walk of about 150 metres takes you to the local mini-market, while the village boasts two restaurants and a couple of cafes, all within easy walking distance. If you want a swim, the beach is a half mile stroll in one direction while the sea pools are the same distance in the opposite direction. For children there is a tiny beach and safe sea pool right opposite.
Secondly, the house is both immaculately clean and well equipped. Don’t be deceived by the photographs. Inside there is a spacious lounge with full height window and double glass door. overlooking the sea; large double bedroom, and smaller room with two single beds, a bathroom with shower on each floor (with endless hot water) and an adequate and well equipped kitchen. For outside dining there is a table and four chairs out at the front where you can watch the sunset, whilst at the back is another table and chairs together with two sun beds backing on to a large private garden with lawns and flower beds. Incidentally there is also a barbecue at the rear.
Thirdly, and most importantly is the welcome and the hospitality of the owner. Maria is on hand whenever you need her, be it for advice on places to visit or assistance in organizing activities. Maria was so kind and friendly to us, and her English made up for our total lack of Portuguese. Throughout our stay little gifts of fruit and vegetables kept appearing at our door.
There is just one reason not to stay. If the kind of holiday you like is the type you get in Blackpool, Benidorm or Bodrum then Mosteiros is not for you. A glass of wine with your neighbours and passing the time of day with the passers by is about as busy as the nightlife gets in the village and nobody ever tries to sell you anything on Sao Miguel!
Within the village of Mosteiros one can enjoy the black sandy beach that is only about 200 meters from the Casas do Porto.
There is a convenience grocery store within 50 meters and a pharmacy at about 100 meters. There are a few café bar types where one can get an espresso or something stronger. Two traditional small restaurants in the village offer lunch meals on daily basis, and dinners during the summer months.
If you are a fish enthusiast, you may get the opportunity of buying fresh fish at the port when the local fishing boats come in around nine in the morning.
In the neighboring village of Ginetes, a 20 minute drive, you will find a place called Ferraria, where a thermal spring is found on the ocean´s edge where you can swim in the warm water.
Visit the Azores and come see the green island known as Sao Miguel. Allow your senses to go back in time and let us make this a special holiday for you.
