About Cath Davis

Retired from the IT rat race now living in France.

Cath Davis purchased this house in 2014

Why Cath Davis chose Dinan area

We fell in love with Dinan the first time we visited it, the combination of a walled medieval town with a bustling port is unique certainly in this part of France. There is always something to do - even if it's just watching the world go by from a creperie on the banks of the river. There are heaps of places to go and things to see in Brittany but nothing beats a lazy afternoon by the river with a good bottle of red ! Rue du Four is the ideal location to explore from or to just hang-out at. Sitting on the terrace in the evening sun can't be beaten.

What makes this house unique

This little house overlooks the river Rance and the port of Dinan. It is a fabulous base for walking and cycling as there are tow paths in both directions along the river. There are several restaurants in the port, a 2 minute stroll accross the bridge, so you don't need to drive anywhere in the evening. A more challenging walk is up the famous Rue du Jersual into the medieval town itself.

This part of Britanny has a stunning coast line and beautiful and historic towns. Try Lancieux or Saint Jacut de la Mer as well as the wonderful towns of St Malo and Dinard

Fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a great week in this fine apartment in Dinan Port (actually Lanvallay) which was only a few steps (literally) away from the historic old town of Dinan. Perfect location for just sitting on the deck and watching the world go by or wandering the cobblestone streets of the old town. Plenty of restaurants right across the river and just a short walk across the old stone bridge.

The walk up the cobble stoned hill (a decent climb) to the main main town of Dinan is a walk through history and we did it many times.

It was a short and interesting drive to plenty of other places including St. Malo, Mont Saint-Michel, Merlin's Tomb and the Knight's Forest, etc.etc.

Two major supermarkets a short drive up the hill in Lanvallay and a perfect boulangerie for morning croissants and baguettes only steps across the stone bridge . I should add both items equaled or exceeded the quality of what we found in Paris the week after our stay here.

Take a right as you leave the apartment and a few steps down the street you can rent kayaks..a walk to the left gets you a boat ride down the river to the town of Lehon.

The apartment itself has everything you will need for a comfortable stay and I would not hesitate to recommend it to ANYONE staying in this part of Brittany.

Can't tell you how much we all enjoyed our stay in the Port of Dinan. The cottage is great, it is really quirky very well equipped and in perfect position to explore area. John the owner could not have been more friendly and helpful. Lots of great resturants bars to explore- Best by far The Marmite in Lehon- about a mile walk down river- Fantastic. The area is absolutely fantastic with such history. The beaches are quite close and some of the best in the world. Just book and go its great. The Guest Family

Cottage was a good living area .Stated 2 beds/2 bathrooms. The downstairs one was utility room with shower and toilet. Could have been cleaner. Struggled with hot water in the evenings. We had to wash some of the crockery before using it.

The bedrooms were lovely and the beds and the linen was very good. . It was situated very well with the restaurants on the quay side only a few minutes walk

Perfect house in a wonderful town

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in this house two years in a row. It is perfectly charming and well-equipped for all of our needs as a couple. The pictures and descriptions are right on. The location in the port of Dinan is ideal. The town and port of Dinan are full of wonderful restaurants and shops, as well as historic sights to see. Cath and John were wonderful to work with and were very prompt to answer any questions. We highly recommend this house, and we plan to come back.

Gorgeous house with character and beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very lovely stay at 8 Rue Du Four. We usually hire inside the rempart to avoid the steep rue Jerzual as we have small children but being the other side of the river Rance was very lovely as it is located by the river with restaurants, crêperies and a boulangerie just over the charming little bridge. You have the canal for walking, running or cycling along steps alway from your door step.

The house is spacious with a big kitchen and a nice size lounge. The TV works and it has satellite with English and French channels and a Xbox with games.

The 2 bedrooms are charming and cosy.

The owners are lovely, they speak both English and French and showed us around the house.

We would love to come back there we had a great time!!

Ps: great big fridge, a little freezer would be very handy :)

Hope to come back soon!!
