Salobreña Villa Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 3 bath/shower rooms, sleeps 8 plus baby. NEW: pool heating for 2013

Casa Piedra is the only house in the old town with its own swimming pool. Pool heating is offered at a small supplementary charge. It is a unique architect designed property, built in the late 1960's and located high in the old town of Salobreña. There is nothing to compare - ALL other similar properties are located out of town - a car drive away from all the many amenities which Salobreña has to offer. Although there are houses all around, Casa Piedra is very spacious and private, set in its own hillside garden with a large tear drop swimming pool, several terraces and abundant tropical shrubs and plants. The views are spectacular. In one direction you see Las Alpujarras (foothills of the Sierra Nevada) and in the other you look down to the shimmering waters of the Med and Salobreña beach. It will take you 12 minutes to walk down to the beach - much less to local bars and restaurants in the old town.

NEW FOR 2015: Completely refurbished kitchen - it's new! All the terraces around the house have been relaid - and the entire house has been painted inside.

Ground Floor: Front door leads to lobby with marble staircase leading to first floor, landing and sun terrace.

Lounge: Spacious room with two large sofas; book-cases; very efficient wood burning stove for out of season. Door leads out to sun terrace and swimming pool. Steps up to open plan dining room.

Dining Room and Terrace: Indoor dining area; door out to terrace with large marble dining table which is main dining area. Overlooks swimming pool and views out to beach and sea.

Newly refurbished kitchen: Fully equipped including 2 refrigerators, freezer and much more. Leads to:

Shower room and toilet;

and Bedroom 4 with standard double bed, wardrobe, and window to passage-way. (This bedroom and shower room becomes en suite and is its own enclosed area.)

Back door to passage-way.

First Floor: Bedroom 1: 5' double bed; fitted wardrobe and drawers. Views over swimming pool, barbecue terrace and the sea. Steps down to en-suite bath/shower room/toilet all recently refurbished.

Bedroom 2: Very large room with super king size bed; spacious mirrored wardrobes with shelves and drawers. Sofa bed. TV. Views to sea. Across passage-way to refurbished large shower room/toilet.

Bedroom 3: Twin beds. Fitted wardrobe and drawers. Views over sun terrace. (Shares bathroom with bedroom 2.)

Upstairs Sun Terrace: Dining area and built in tiled bench seats in Andalusian style. Wrought iron work with flowering creepers. Views to mountains in one direction and beach in the other direction.

(NB Bedroom 4 is downstairs.)

The Swimming Pool and Garden: The swimming pool is being heated from Easter 2013. It has a maximum dimension of approx 9 metres and is approached down a small flight of steps. The depth ranges from approx 4'9' to 5'9' - there is no shallow end although the steps down allow the possibility of a gentle immersion if required. Gates, as a deterrent for small children, are installed around the house in strategic locations to fence off the swimming pool and open spaces. (Please enquire regarding charges for swimming pool heating.)

The house has six terrace areas with masses of pot plants. At the front door there is a cool shady terrace which looks out to the mountains and valley towards Motril. Above the garage there is a terrace for table tennis or sun bathing. Outside the lounge there is a pretty sun terrace. Below the swimming pool there is a shady terrace for barbecues and from which there are views to the town and out to sea. The dining terrace and upstairs sun terrace are described above.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Our holiday at your beautiful Casa Piedra was everything we had wished for our final family holiday. We felt at home immediately ... We practically lived in the pool or on the terraces, all our meals eaten outside, but on the few occasions we needed a little respite from the sun the comy sofas and cool interiors were very welcome.' - Mrs W from Cornwall.

'What an absolutely lovely house - and such a pretty and well planned garden that must be unique in the town. We had eight terrific days ...' Mr E of Kew

'Many thanks for allowing us to occupy your Spanish home for our holiday. We all agreed that Salobrena is about the best Spanish holiday area we have been to and your villa could not have been bettered.' Mr M of Teddington who has rebooked for 2005.

'We had a lovely holiday, your villa is gorgeous and we really had such a good relaxing time. Can't think of anything to improve it and we would certainly recommend it to others. Thanks for an amazing holiday!' Mrs McF - Hants.

The place you must stay at in Salobrena!

  • 5 of 5

An amazing place - the website doesn't do it justice - nor does it tell you that its like being an invited guest in someone's home. Lovely touches, and real comforts - spacious enough for a large party without feeling at all crowded, but intimately cosy for a couple on their own - as we found toward the end of our stay after the rest of our party had reluctantly returned to their jobs and studies..

We had one day at the Alhambra, and one day's trip into the hills for markets and rugs - spectacular scenery - but you really don't need to go anywhere as Casa Piedra has it all! Just a trip down to the fish market for bbq provisions, or a gentle stroll up the hill to the bars or restaurants in the delightful old town in an evening to round off each perfect day.

We enjoyed a truly restorative 3 weeks and were sorry to leave. In 40 years of family holidays its one of the very few places we look forward to going back to. Highly recommended.

Beautiful home with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

The listing is accurate but really doesn't do justice to this gorgeous house perched on the side of the hill overlooking Salobreña beach. It is spread over several levels and consequently has 4 distinct places to sit and enjoy the amazing vista. There is a well lit comfortable seating area at the front of the house , ideal for reading in the evening or sharing a bottle of wine. A terrace overlooks the swimming pool that has a large stone table that is ideal for long lazy lunches. There is barbecue area below the pool, also good for sun worshippers. Upstairs there is a secluded balcony area that also has a table to enjoy a quiet drink/ meal when the sun has gone down - it is very warm in the day. Then of course there is the pool and also the table tennis area. With 7 in our group it never felt crowded.

The property is very well maintained and the pool man comes once per week, as do the gardners to keep everything in good working order.

When we had a minor issue with a door, the owner's manager was round within 1 hour and fixed it. Very friendly and helpful. Also Geoffrey (the owner) was easy to contact , providing us with lots of useful information before we left the UK.

I would absolutely recommend this to a friend and hope we can return soon. We were slightly anxious before we arrived when we realised that there was no air- conditioning. Do not let this put you off! There are good quality fans in every room and with windows open it was very comfortable. Being perched on the hill, there is a constant gentle breeze and we adapted very quickly.

Having a car is an essential to make the most of the area. The roads up to Casa Piedra are very twisty and narrow but Casa Piedra has a garage and although we has two (Toyota Auris size) cars we were always able to find parking for the second car.

We drove into the Alpajurras to Órgiva to visit " Driving over lemons" territory and visited a beautiful tea garden run by an English couple - La Chimeas - see trip advisor. You must visit the Alhambra in Granada. ( a straightforward hours trip away on good roads) Remember to book in advance - best to do so before you leave the U.K. We had 3 kids (10-12) in our group and although it was 38deg at the Alhambra even they enjoyed it.

Locally you can walk to many good restaurants. We would all highly recommend La Botica in the square of the Old town ( 10mins walk up the hill). Good food and they couldn't be more welcoming.

Lovely stay!

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my family had a really nice week in this property. It's situated high up overlooking the town so very pretty views when sitting out on the balcony. It had everything we could have asked for and is a lovely property that's very well maintained. The owners are very nice people and made sure that everything was catered for. Also a nice touch having wine and milk in the fridge when we arrived! I'd be happy to return again and it's a perfect place to relax and chill. Thank you for making our stay so welcoming.

Terrific holiday home

  • 4 of 5

We are a family of six with four lively boys aged 9 to 14 years old. From the moment we arrived, we loved Casa Piedra and Salobreña The house is even bigger than it looks on the website, with plenty of space for us to spread out.

The pool is fantastic and the boys spent most of their time in there, while we enjoyed the view from the beautiful terrace. The villa was in good condition and the staff who came were lovely and friendly - particularly Emilio, who looks after the pool and Dolores, who looks after the garden. We were able to walk to the beach and enjoy the bars and restaurants on the front and also into the village where we had a number of great meals.

The only negative for us was the parking, as we were unable to take advantage of the garage due the neighbours parking too close to the door!! However, as a family of 6 we need a larger sized car which made this more difficult.

Geoffrey has been informative and helpful at every stage, and seems genuinely keen for his guests to have a great holiday. He even contacted us to let us know when the flights had been released.

Guests should be aware that the village is set high up on the hillside, which makes for some amazing views but for less mobile people could be a challenge.

We would definitely like to return to Casa Piedra and the surrounding area and while we would highly recommend it, selfishly would like to keep it just for us!

Amazing Holiday!

The photos of the villa make it look very nice but it is even better in reality. It is furnished so well and the owners have thought of everything.

Beautiful views too. We didn't want to leave!

Beautiful Property, well located for the old town!

  • 4 of 5

We loved our time at Casa Piedra. The property is comfortable, well equipped with games for all the family, kitchen wares for all kinds of cooking and enough seats for two families. There are many nooks and spaces to the property to sit throughout the day, to escape or get into the sun as it makes its way through the sky. We had three young children with us, we felt extremely safe with them wandering around as the pool is well gated to stop nosey toddlers going to far. There are a few steps up to the property as it is situated near the top of the old part of Salobrēna, so it is best to take a car if you have family that find it less easy to get around. The photos do not do the property the justice it deserves (sorry Geoffrey), so you will be even more pleased when you arrive. The views from Casa Piedra are lovely, and when you are at the BBQ, i don't think there is a better view to cook from. Geoffrey is also extremely nice to deal with and will ensure your stay is the best it can be.

Welcome to the Costa Tropical! Salobreña is on the coast about 1 hour east of Malaga airport and just 45 minutes south of Granada. This is the real Spain with no high rise development and no glitzy night life - just restaurants, tapas bars, 4kms of beaches, perhaps the odd disco and very friendly local people. The old town of Salobreña, once a Moorish stronghold was built on an imposing outcrop of rock visible from miles around; perched on the top of the hill and dominating the town from 105 metres above sea level are the 10th century castle and 16th century church. This is the 'casco antiguo', a maze of narrow roadways, white-washed houses, alleys and steep staircases. Here, all a stone's throw from Casa Piedra, you will discover the old town square with its hidden tapas bars, wonderful restaurants and a few quaint shops locked in their own time warp.
