My husband and I stayed at this cottage 9/1 - 9/8 2007. Everything was just as portrayed in the ad - spotlessly clean, cozy, and comfy. The beach really is just a 5 - 7 minute walk, and very private - Labor day weekend, and only a few other couples/families! The owner's are delightful, and extremely accomodating.
This cottage is ideal for a couple, but would also be fine with a child, or two. The 2nd bedroom has bunks and a daybed, and living/dining/kitchen area has games, books, TV, etc.
We've booked again for next year (two weeks this time,) so would definitely give this home a "thumbs up!"
Just as the sign above the mantle states...this is our "Base Camp" during our visits to the Cape. A great central location that is a short walk to the quiet bayside beach, and a short drive or bicycle ride to ocean side beaches. If you rent or bring bicycles along, the bicycle rail trail is also a short distance away.
The private deck is a great place to relax. The cottage is clean, cozy and wonderful. The owners, Bob and Lori.....also wonderful. They are right next door if you need anything. Aside from that, however...you'll have complete privacy during your stay.
As always...we can't wait to go back.
We stayed here in July 2015 with our two children, ages 5 and 8. The location and the accommodations were perfect. We loved being in Eastham - close to the National Seashore and the Dunes, and just a short drive to Provincetown and Orleans or Chatham. We loved that the Wellfleet drive-in was just 5 minutes away and also took in a concert on the Windmill Green, just a 3 minute drive. Arnolds was a favorite spot, just 3 minutes away also. Mini golf and amazing food! The house was absolutely spotless and had everything we needed. We loved the private deck, where we had our coffee and played scrabble with the kids each morning. With the kids, it took us about 8-10 minutes to walk to the wonderful private beach. At low tide, the kids gathered critters in the tide pools and loved walking way out into the ankle deep water. The owners were extremely pleasant and laid back. If you have any reservation about the "attached to owners residence" part of this property, don't! We didn't even know they were there! We would rent here again.
We enjoyed our stay at this cottage very much. The owners couldn’t be nicer people, and the accommodations are very attractive and comfortable, just as the photos show. The cottage was also very clean and homey, and the neighborhood is quiet. The games and beanbag for the kids are nice touches, along with a whole bookshelf full of books for the grownups to peruse.
There are several things that potential renters should be aware of, however:
- The unit does have a washer and dryer, but these are located in a cellar which can only be accessed from the outside. This means you cannot hear the buzzer when a load is done. Renters should probably also bring a large plastic bag for transporting laundry in case of rain. The cellar stairs are rather steep, so anyone who has problems with balance or with climbing stairs may have an issue with this.
- The unit does not have air conditioning. The outdoors temperature was very comfortable during our stay, but even with windows open and multiple fans running, the cottage got a little warm during the day due to solar gain. One reason for this is that, other than the bathroom (which has a vaulted ceiling), the cottage has low ceilings (7 feet), so there is nowhere for heat to go. It was not horribly hot, however, and I know many people would not be bothered by the lack of A/C.
- The walk to the beach is down a very charming dirt road that runs in front of attractive homes. However, the beach is approximately a quarter-mile away, so this could be a problem for people who take a lot of stuff to the beach, such as beach toys. Also, access to the beach is via three flights of stairs, so this is again something to be aware of for people who have problems with stairs.
As long as you are fine with all of this, it is hard to imagine that you would find a better place to stay in Eastham.
The Cottage was just as described. It was very clean and had everything we needed for our weekend on the Cape. The owners were friendly and available if we needed them but we really didn't because everything was perfect.
Our favorite thing was being just a walk from the beach. We have two children (7 and 4) and the walk was not too far for them. There were also games and books at the cottage to keep them amused after getting home from a day at the beach.
My husband brought his bike and the cottage was only a short distance from the Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path. There was also somewhere to store his bike.
We will certainly stay again when we come up to the Cape!
