Gary and I have lived in Tamarindo since 2001. We drove to Costa Rica with our son and another family from California for the adventure of a lifetime that lives on today. Upon arriving to Costa Rica after our three month trip through Latin America, we started a new chapter in our lives. An unlikely couple, Gary is from New Jersey and I, a native Californian, it is our love of travel and adventure that keeps us happy and laughing. Prior to moving to Costa Rica, Gary spent his first career of 30 years in Medicine and I was a teacher and Interior Designer. Once we arrived in Tamarindo laying in hammocks all day for 3 months was just not enough. So, Gary ventured into a new career in real estate to spice things up for the next 10 years. Gary retired once again in 2012 as one of the busiest most successful and well respected realtors in our area. In 2007, when our son Brooks left for college, we were lonely and thought it might be fun to rent out one of our casitas that we used only a couple times a year for family. Little did we know how much fun it would be and the friends we would make along the way. We invite you to come be our guest and see what life is like living in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. We will show you this lovely country and Tamarindo through our eyes and give you, in our humble opinion, the best places to eat and send you on the adventure tours that best fit your vacation style. This is our family business and Gary, Brooks and I take great pleasure and pride in giving you the best vacation we can deliver. Come see us, we would love to have you as our guest. Gary, Jolene and Brooks Clarke
Jolene Clarke purchased this villa in 2005
We have been traveling to Costa Rica for over 25 years. From the moment I stepped off the airplane on our first trip here I knew we would retire here one day. What we did not know was that the house we originally built to sell would turn out to be our dream home and fulfill my life long desire to have a Bed and Breakfast. We love Tamarindo for its great beaches, sunsets, wildlife, adventure activities and of course the vast array of restaurants. We have traveled all over the world and have never found a beach town we liked more. Tamarindo is small and unspoiled and is one place in Costa Rica and the world where you can go, do and see it all in one place on your vacation. We are the perfect property for honeymooner's, babymooner's, executive surf trips and those looking for a quiet, relaxing or active getaway. Arrive as guest, leave as friends!
Our colonial architecture with furniture, art and accessories from our travels make for a warm, eclectic, welcoming environment. Plus, you can't beat the pool and garden areas to relax after a day at the beach or a canopy tour. You will love your 'Casitas for two,' that was decorated lovingly over the years for your pleasure and comfort. I love how our Villa has many different areas to enjoy, the pool, the rancho, the bistro area and the grand patio, something for everyone. Of course Maria's great breakfast is definitely the icing on the cake each day.
My husband and I, along with another couple travelled to Costa Rica to celebrate our 20 year wedding anniversaries. We had been planning this trip for over a year! Before visiting Tamarindo, we spent three rustic, awesome, active days near the Arenal Volcano and saved the relaxing beach time for the end of our trip. So glad we did! Gary and Jolene were the most amazing hosts! I had spent a year looking at their VRBO listing and pouring over review after review. Every review is right on! This property is just the right distance to walk to the beach but far enough from the bustle of the city. Anything and everything that you could want or need, Gary and Jolene would provide. So very helpful in coordinating activities, suggesting places to eat and things to see. Late on our last evening there, Jolene was able to get us a coveted reservation at one of the most popular beach front restaurants. She and Gary have lots of connections. Our suite was lovely and perfect - I loved waking up each morning to the sunshine coming in and a couple of times to the monkeys howling. It was really fun too, to enjoy amazing breakfasts each morning and get to know the other guests. I can go on and on with how perfect this trip was. We didn't want to leave and we can't wait to go back! Thank you Gary and Jolene! We miss you!
My boyfriend and I traveled to Costa Rica for our first time and it was absolutely amazing! Jolene and Gary made us feel right at home, made us feel comfortable (as sometimes it can be stressful traveling abroad) and truly went above and beyond to make sure that we had the best out of our time in Costa. The pictures don't do the place justice- it is absolutely breathtaking and very safe! The maids made an amazing breakfast and you can't beat the location. It is within SHORT walking distance from everything! We had a car but we walked everywhere. The rooms are all beautifully decorated, as is the whole property, and it was everything we could have asked for. I would recommend this place to all couples and friends staying together, or solo travelers! It is such a special place and I cannot wait to come back and visit! There's no other place to stay than here!!
Our first try at staying in an upmarket B&B and excellent in the Dry Season, November to May. Not sure how it would work in the rain, but that could be true for many tropical areas. Stayed in the ensuite studio room called Casita Andalicia above the garage. Compact but contains small comfortable sofa, small dining table and well equipped kitchenette with good fridge-freezer and stove top. Spices condiments and equipment more than adequate. Bed a large double, not quite kingsize. Spacious shower but it desperately needs a shower boost pump if you have long hair to wash. On mains drains so can flush paper, rare in CR. Bettter than amazing Internet. All located within its own quiet secure compound within easy 10 minute, waking distance from main Tamarindo beach, bars, restaurants and a dual currency ATM. Outside space is also very compact around the small frontyard pool, potentially shared by 8 guests. Do visit the Palo Verde National Park including the boat trip on the crocodile-infested river. About 60 min drive from Tamarindo. Rafting grade 2 on Rio Corobici, but a long 2 hours away. Jolene Clarke is an excellent host and networks well with the tour providers, usually with private drivers and direct villa pickup. Airport transfers currently included in the room price and personally driven by Jolene or husband Gary. Keep up the good work!
My husband and I are from Sweet Home Alabama but we have found our home away from home with Jolene and Gary at Villa Andalucia. What an absolutely beautiful property and they are incredible hosts!
They pay so much attention to detail and they work from sun up to sun down to ensure their property is very well-maintained and kept perfectly clean. The pictures do not do it justice. You have to see it in person to appreciate it.
Maria and Giselle prepare breakfasts that are to die for so be sure you don't miss them. There is a different breakfast each day of the week (Monday-Friday). French toast day was my favorite! We were up and out really early one weekday that we stayed with them so we missed the regular breakfast. However, Jolene asked Maria and Giselle to prepare some fresh fruit and toast for us so we didn’t have to leave for our tour on an empty stomach. Talk about above and beyond.
My husband and I stayed here for a week and it was not long enough. We did not rent a car as the town of Tamarindo is very walkable from Villa Andalucia. Any tours you want to do will pick you up and drop you off at the house. Jolene can and will help you schedule any activities that you want to do.
One of my favorite things on property was the Rancho on the Casita Seville side of the home. There is a covered pergola with a couple of hammocks. I took a few catnaps throughout the week laying in the hammock. Yes, Gary, I did have time to do that. LOL!
Jolene is fantastic with emails. I had to have asked a thousand questions and she was always very quick and thorough with her responses.
My husband and I have traveled at least once a year for 17 years, sometimes more, and Costa Rica was our best trip yet. Villa Andalucia played a huge part in making that happen. Jolene and Gary have a way of making you feel at ease. They feel as though they are long-time friends from the moment you say, "Hello." Jolene and Gary, we cannot thank you enough for your hospitality! We will see you again!
My husband and I stayed at Villa Andalucia for four nights. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. Gary was a wonderful host and drove us around town and offered great recommendation for restaurants and tours upon our arrival. We would definitely stay again if we make it back to Tamarindo.
We are late with our message, sorry,Gary!!Suffice to say that all these wonderful reviews echo what we experienced, just felt like home once we arrived;incredible hosts and unique home.Their recommendations and personal assistance around town were right on!!!What stood out?Antares Sunset Cruise;Lanacosta Beach Club,Bula Bula Rest,Pala Verde Nat Park tour with lunch,Happy Hour in the garden with Friedas frisby show!!Maria's breakfasts;Jolene was great organizing our tour pick-ups and times. The airport transfers were on time.Sharkys Sports Bar gave us our sports fix when we needed it,and the Tour highlight was the 3 ladies doing SEVEN zip lining runs on the Congo Trail!!
Great memories--Tamarindo is very busy over Xmas Holidays;so be advised if you are traveling at that time!!
We will return indeed!!!
We have a private surf instructor on staff who also does snorkel tours and has the only spearfishing lesson around. Brooks also does sports fishing tours on the new Boat, the 'Pica Pica.' For you birders and nature lovers out there, Brooks can arrange special wildlife tours for you in the afternoons or take you to the incredible Palo Verde Wetlands.
