The Rainforest Cottage is comfortable and conveniently located to get to see all Juneau has to offer. Melissa and Matthew have been in business with the Rainforest Cottage for over 7 years, are well-established and responsive to guest inquiries and needs.
The Basin Road neighborhood is one of the oldest in Juneau, its homes originally built to house workers and managers of the gold mines in the surrounding mountains. Today, the area is loved by locals as the best daily connection with the outdoors, with anything from leisurely walks to back-country running and world-class hiking... truly just around the corner from the Rainforest Cottage.
Our family of 5 (kids aged 16-boy, 13-girl, and 11-girl) loved the Fiddlehead. My wife and I used the main bedroom, our two girls used the room with two singles and our boy used the pull out sofa bed. Melissa made everything very easy and convenient. There is an amazing hiking trail nearby that our whole family enjoyed - the Gold Creek Flume Trail. It is an easy hike but very fun.
The area is very quiet and only a few minutes from downtown Juneau and an easy 15 minute drive from the airport.
Many of the two lane side streets in Juneau are very narrow but we had a Suburban and managed to get around without any problems. Parking in front of the building was big enough to fit our Suburban and the other apartment guest's car.
The interior was very neat and clean and we had plenty of towels/sheets/blankets including setting up the pull-out sofa. We did not use the TV, etc. and the internet worked great for what we used but most of our time was spent out exploring.
Juneau was our favorite stop in Alaska and the Fiddlehead was the favorite place we stayed. Thank-you Melissa!
The set up was fine for two couples but would work nicer for a family with two children as one bedroom has two twin beds. The living area was clean and bright. We had all we needed to cook any of our own meals. The bedrooms were small but workable for us despite the two beds in the second room. The location was fine but the walk up the hill from downtown is quite demanding and may not be possible for everyone. The manager of the property was right on the spot when there was a problem with both the internet and TV. They spent a lot of time while we were out on a excursion to get this fixed! Over all I would recommend staying here for most anyone. It made our experience more "real" in Juneau!
Nice little place tucked up in the trees. Fairly clean, quiet. Easily accessible to everything. All around easy comfortable place for our stay.
Very cute apartment - walk a little steep.but well worth it! Felt like a part of Juneau.
Excellent place to stay. Had entire family of 9, grandma/grandpa, our family of three, and my brother's family of four. Easy access to town and awesome hiking trail heads. Be sure to visit the last chance mine up Basin road, which our friends are the caretakers.
Gold mine museum was a short walk up the hill, and well worth the trip. House was great for us. It was older, clean, and very comfortable with a great view. Getting up the hill is a challenging hike. The owner was very helpful.
Many of the attractions listed (downtown shopping, museums, retaurants, attractions, tours, etc.) are within walking distance of the Rainforest Cottage, including hiking. But several of the best hiking, scenic walks/drives, and features are anywhere from 3-30 miles away, so a car is very nice to have if you're in Juneau for more than a few days. In the summer, bus & ocean (fishing and whale watching) tours leave from downtown Juneau regularly, though, so a car is not a necesity.
