Tim and Sarah moved to France in 2002, from the South of England. Sarah had a background working with animals, especially horses, Tim had his own groundworks company. We met only 18 months before moving here,we decided to take the plunge, neither of us speaking french! We have learnt as we have gone along, taught by our neighbours, with many a laugh at our expense. We have learnt enough french to run our own carpentry business in the area, doing traditional oak work. We were married in our village 9 years ago, much to the delight of all the locals, who supplied all the liquids necessary, good and bad!
Sarah Austin purchased this barn in 2002
We are country people and when we found Les Trois Maisons, with its fantastic view and large farmhouse kitchen we knew that it was for us - we loved the idea of renovating 3 ruins and a very dilapidated house! It was a long hard slog over 5 years, doing all the work ourselves, but now as all our guests tell us, it is a wonderful property in a beautiful rural quiet location. Now the fields and woods have been cleared we have been 'donated' a variety of animals, ducks, chickens, horses donkeys and turkeys which provide endless amusement for us and our guests. We have been adopted by our local agricultural community,in which we participate, this gives us a very enjoyable lifestyle.
we enjoy the fine weather of SW France and the agricultural ambiance, we ride our horse and walk our dogs regularly through the country lanes and woods, where we gather mushrooms and chestnuts in good french style. Although we are rural, the small local village is convenient, with all facilities, it can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by horse and occasionally by car if you must! This is our piece of heaven
This place is ideal for families. Totally relaxed, loved the pool. Tim and Sarah ideal hosts. Loads to do. Just fab fab fab !
The first thing we noticed staying at Trois Maisons is the usual list of Do's & Don'ts doesn't actually exist, fantastic, we can use our common sense!
We then noticed that plastic hooks, handles etc etc do not exist, as Walnut Cottage has been sympathetically renovated and everything is wood, beautiful.
Although the owners live on site you wouldn't know it but they are subtly around if you need them!
Our 4 year old daughter spent most of the time in the pool, however, there were plenty of games for her to play outside, walks in the woods and a friendly donkey to chat too, she was in her element.
We made a little drive into the local village of Villamblard most days, just because we were in France and daily fresh bread is a must!
The market at Vergt was worth a visit, a picturesque village.
The lakes nearby where you can swim and a nice restaurant at the waters edge was an afternoon out for us and we had a lovely time there.
Staying in rural France, on a quiet small holding, with beautiful views and sympathetically renovated barns and grounds allow for a total wind down from the hamster wheel of life! Perfect! Could not recommend enough!
This was a late booking for us, so we did not do much research or have any pre-conceptions before we arrived. We were absolutely blown away by the location of the properties. They are in beautiful countryside near rolling meadows and broad leaf woods. Lots of wild life and birds as well as farming. The gites are as described - rustic, but well maintained and comfortable. This is not luxury living, but you have everything you need - there is also a reliable wifi connection which is a real bonus. The pool is lovely and, if you are bringing kids, they will have loads of fun hanging out there - great for adults too as it is big enough to swim in and has wonderful views across the surrounding fields. It is far enough away from the properties to ensure that any high jinx in the pool do not disturb those trying to get 40 winks or a quiet beer in the gites!
If you want a holiday just hang out and reading a good book, Trois Maisons can provide that, but it is also surrounded by lovely villages, opportunities for canoeing and hanging out by the river, great walks, chateaux, and fabulous eating.
Last but not least, Tim and Sarah are fantastic hosts. If you just want to be left alone, that is fine by them, but if you need any information or help they will go out of their way to provide it. Big thanks to them for taking us canoeing (we would never have done it without their encouragement!), for the great pizza and for helping us to ensure we all had a great holiday. I would not hesitate to recommend Trois Maisons to families or couples looking for a rural get away with a bit extra.
Within 1 hour drive there are prehistoric & medieval site, chateaux, wine tasting, canoeing, potholing, golf, fishing, water parks, museums and caves
