Description

Southern Aegean House Rental Photos and Description

One of two units in large garden 5 min. from Skala center - exceptional views

Our house in the protected area of Kastelli, gives you the best of everything: central location, large garden, exceptional views, traditional furnishings and modern comfort.

Rebuilt with the best possible materials, using traditional techniques and local craftsmen, this unique stone house offers you the very best of Greek village life.

The house is located at the top of a hill overlooking the port of Skala and offers you majestic views of the ocean, the village and the traditional monastery of St. John.

The house has easy access by car, but we recommend the swift walk through the picturesque streets of the traditional township of Kastelli

The house is only 300 meters from the beach and about 6 minutes from the town Centre, but you are surrounded by 3000 square meters of traditional farmland with 100 year old pines and olive trees, making your stay quiet and rejuvenating.

The house consists of two separate units, which may be rented together or separately.

Both units have fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms, and secluded terraces.

The top unit, The old house, has a separate living room and two bedrooms sleeping 5 people. The lower unit, The farm house, has a combined kitchen/living room and a bedroom with two beds.

But since most of your summer living probably will be outdoors, we have made it easy to convert the living rooms to bedrooms so that The Old house may sleep 7 and The Farm House 4+ people.

There is also an outdoor bed, with mosquito netting, for those who want to experience sleeping under the stars.

About Arne Abrahamsen

I am living in Norway, 64 years old and working as a communications adviser. My wife is from California, so we also spend a lot of time in the US. I first visited Patmos in 1972 when I spent a whole year living there. Since then Patmos has been a second home both for the two of us and for our children and grandchildren. My dream is to little by little develop our property on Patmos as an integrated part of the village, with more houses, a central square, a vineyard trees and flowers. We will use the houses ourselves, but also want to share this oasis of beauty and tranquility with others.

Arne Abrahamsen purchased this house in 2008

Why Arne Abrahamsen chose Greece

Having spent more than 40 years visiting Patmos, my wife and I, 10 years ago finally decided that this is where we want to spend our retirement. We purchased what we think is one of the most spectacular properties on the island and are gradually building and rebuilding houses to use ourselves, for our friends and to rent. We are passionate about the island, and want to do our utmost to preserve and develop its traditional values and natural beauty.

What makes this house unique

The house is located at the top of a hill overlooking the port of Skala and offers you majestic views of the ocean, the village and the traditional monastery of St. John.

The house is only 300 meters from the beach and about 6 minutes from the town Centre, but you are surrounded by 3000 square meters of traditional farmland with 100 year old pines and olive trees, making your stay quiet and rejuvenating.

Very, very nice!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time at Arne's house. The house is lovely, exactly as described and seen at the pictures, clean, cosy and convenient. The restoration was done with much care and attention to detail. Its location is superb; very quiet, having a great view to the port of Skala and Hora while being close to Skala port at the same time. A very pleasant experience and an easy recommendation for others to enjoy as we did.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last week (Oct.2015), everything was as described. Arne was very flexible, as we thought we may have had to stay an extra day or 2, due to the weather. A great location, close to Skala, but very private setting, we highly recommend this property one of the best we have been to. These guys did an excellent job with the recent renovation, tasteful, but not overbearing, all the appliances were new, and worked perfectly, absolutely no problems. I am sure this place will be booked up solid during high season.

Wonderful apartment

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at The Farm House. It is simply but carefully decorated and has everything you need for a short or long stay, including a washing machine and plenty of crockery and pans to cook with. We loved the location which has a great view over the port and ocean and is away from the noise but is still within a five minute walk of the shops, restaurants etc. The owner has taken great care in restoring this building and it shows. Having stayed in self-catering apartments in the Greek Islands before, they are usual very basic with only the most basic of facilities. The Farm House is a real home away from home with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Highly recommend it.

Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

Was an amazing Paska in Patmos mostly because of this romantic quite fantastic and brand new (with touch typical of the island) house. The owner is very nice and helpful for all the tips regarding Patmos. Sunny outside breakfast with seaview is fantastic and everything in the house works perfectly. Hope to go again soon...Thank you!!

The optimal setting for a peaceful holiday.

  • 5 of 5

From Arne and Kathryn's house at the the foot of the old Kastelli Akropolis, you have the most breathtaking view over the bay of Skala. From the generously spaced sitting areas in front of the house, you overview the terraces of the property cultivated over centuries, and further down the living village. Behind the house grassland and shrubs cover the slopes, slightly grazed by joyful goats. The house is newly restored (2015) in a beautiful manner, and inside you find all modern facilities. Because of the way the work has been done, you feel the atmosphere of timeless Greek traditional life. The house is easy to find (most people know about it) and is clean and well maintained. You reach the village centre with shops and restaurants in 5 - 10 min, either you walk, go by bike or take the car. There is a decent public beach inside the village, to find a nice beach outside you have to walk 30-40 min, or 15 min by bike. Patmos has many really nice beaches scattered around. Because the house is situated at the upper end of the settlement of the slope, there is little traffic passing by.
