A 1920's style cottage of great character and charm, 1 1/2 miles from the sea in West Dorset with views to Lyme Bay at Charmouth and Lyme Regis. One double bedroom, ensuite bathroom, kitchen and dining/sitting room, open fireplaces, Digital TV, DVD, and video, bookshelves, heating, private south facing garden, with access to a conservatory adjoining a large terrace and a 12 meter swimming pool, private entrance and parking. We now have free good quality WIFI internet available in the cottage suitable for all laptops

Upstairs there is a comfortable bedroom with a king-size double bed (or two singles), storage heater, an open fireplace, and a bay window which overlooks the garden. This is ensuite with a substantial bathroom and WC. A large oak door opens out onto a veranda (seen in the upper part of the photograph) from which there are fine views over the lower or Evening Terrace, swimming pool, and the formal gardens (which cover 2 1/2 acres), to Lyme Bay in the distance. Adjoining the Evening Terrace is an old fashioned Conservatory with large curved windows (the building to the right in the photograph). You can see the most wonderful sunsets from the Evening Terrace, underlined by the pool and gardens, with the pinpoints of lights appearing at Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

General Area: For walkers and sightseers, there are many places of interest within very easy reach of the property in this outstandingly beautiful part of England. These include the National Trust trails and preserved sites such as the Golden Cap Estate, Lambert Castle, Lewisdon Hill and Hardown Hill. There are many picturesque unspoilt villages in the area. The nearest beach is at St Gabriel's Gap, some 1 1/2 miles distant. The coastline, which is famous for it's rich fossiliferous rocks, now has World Heritage status. Within half an hours drive you can reach the tropical gardens of Abbotsbury, and in that region and inland, Thomas Hardy country. The town of Lyme Regis, famous for its picturesque harbour and 'The Cobb', and Bridport a busy and prosperous market town still with fishing interests, are each about 10 minutes away by car.

A romantic cosy cottage in an idyllic setting

Excellent location with great walks to Golden Cap, surrounded by beautiful woodlands and close to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast with its stunning coastline. A short drive to a small harbour of West Bay with its great fishmonger and lovely coastal town of Lyme Regis.

The cottage has been beautifully refurbished to a high standard but preserved all the lovely "cottagey" features including the log fire place. The surrounding gardens were stunning, like stately gardens. We had everything and more we needed for our stay. We were welcomed by a freshly baked bread from the local bakery and a bottle of wine which was lovely! The owners have gone out of their way to make this a very enjoyable experience. We would definitely want to come back here.

Perfect

We wanted a winter get away and booked nine nights in this amazing little cottage, perfect for two people to snuggle up in front of the open fire. The photos give a really good representation of the cottage and the gardens.

On arrival we were greeted by the owner who showed us round, and explained a few essentials to us, and he had already built a fire for us in the lounge. It was great having the fire wood supplied, and we had a fire every evening. We were also left with a lovely bottle of wine and a loaf of local bread, both delicious and such a kind thing to do.

It was wet, wild and stormy during our whole stay, but it really didn't matter as it was such a lovely location. We really can't recommend enough, a real home from home with great facilities. We cooked almost every night and the kitchen was well stocked with quality items.

There is lots to do in the local area, despite the time of year. We ventured to a number of the local towns and had a few good walks.

Although the owners live next door, we did not see them until the day we left, they were very respectful of our privacy.

Would we go back, YES!

Actually we really didn't want to leave.

Shangri la.... a magical week, wonderful : )

I have just arrived home from my magical stay at The Tallet.. Terence and Willemien were so lovely and greeted me with wine and fresh food, the grounds are amazing and are filled with wildlife, a beautiful deer grazed in the orchard, the cottage is so cosy and clean, I felt as though I was on a Noel Coward film set... a step back in time, it was truly a magical week... I walked to Seatown and enjoyed the gorgeous countryside, and found some fossils too... but I so loved just relaxing in the garden with its views across to Lyme Regis, the cottage had films , books and a everything you could need in the kitchen if you enjoy cooking : ) a blissful place... caught in time... so special.... the owners even bought me a birthday present, they are both such kind loving people... I hope to return next year, it was so amazing to share time with you both, thankyou : )

Perfect Winter Break

The Tallet is a superb character cottage for two. The building is unique and absolutely charming. The owners are lovely and were very helpful upon arrival, and then completely unobtrusive for our stay. The internal stairs are indeed very steep and require careful negotiation, but just add to the sense that you are staying somewhere very special! The fire was lovely and kept us warm - but do pack a blanket if you're coming in the winter to snuggle up in.

We had glorious weather in January and enjoyed roaming the gardens and a trip to Lyme Regis for fossil hunting. The cottage is very private, with it's own 'secret garden' and the grounds, pool and conservatory are absolutely stunning.

We can't recommend The Tallet highly enough. A perfect romantic winter break for two - so much so, we got engaged here :)

this proved to be a little taste of heaven the gardens where wonderful pool very refreshing location was ideal for visiting

coastel resorts etc would recomend to most people

Wonderfull

We had a few wonderfull days in March09. The Tallet is as lovely as it looks in the pictures even at this early time of year. Stairs inside are quite narrow and have a tight curve but alternative route up outside (under cover) which I'm sure is fine in the summer. Log fire not necessary as heating is fine, but was lovely to sit by in the evenings. And there's a cast iron bath and plenty of hot water for a recouperative bath after a strenuous walk. hemain house gardens are lovely for a gentle stroll, or to sit and read or conemplate in with lovely sea views

Location good for walking the rugged Dorset coastal path, or visiting Lyme Regis, Dorchester etc. Good bus route through village, he x53 runs from Exeter to Bournemouth along the A35, plus other local service no 31,so once you get there leave the car and walk or bus it.

Good reasonably priced food at nearby pubs.

We can't wait to go back

In an area of outstanding natural beauty close to the National Trust Golden Cap Estate 1 1/2 miles from the World Heritage Site coastline famous for its Jurassic period dinosaur and ammonite fossils and exposed in the cliffs and at low tide. Behind the cottage is another National Trust area, Hardown Hill, which offers impressive views in all directions. Ideal for walkers of all types, but most of the beauty spots can also be reached by car.

Notes:
'The Tallet' means wheelwright's shop. The original building dates from the 18th century and was converted in the 1920's in Arts & Crafts style. It is situated amid lush Dorset countryside in the grounds of a larger property known as Littlehill, but is separate, and has its own access and parking. The cottage has recently been completely modernised to luxury standard. The accommodation is for 2 people and comprises, on the ground floor, an open plan modern kitchen at one end, partly separated by a small internal staircase from the living/dining area with an open fireplace, TV and video, storage heater, and bookshelves: the floor is old pine wood blocks. A patio door opens out onto a south facing stone terrace and small completely private garden with a pond. Below is another terrace the Tuscan Terrace with terracotta tiles which open out to a large conservatory also for guests use and the 12 meter swimming pool.
