We loved our apartment! So centrally located! We were able to walk everywhere: El Prado and Reina Sofia museums, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Atocha station, Teatro de Zarzuela, and other places as well! The apartment was so nice! It is on the first floor (above ground level) with huge windows overlooking the street. My husband and I slept in the loft. You have to watch your head, but it was so much fun. My sister had her own room and we had 2 bathrooms! That was nice! We had everything we needed, though we didn't do any cooking. A good, sharper knife would have been great. The owner, Maria, was wonderful and responded immediately to every message. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet her as she was out of town when we arrived, but her son Miguel took wonderful care of us. The building is very secure, with a friendly concierge downstairs. I definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Madrid. Warning: People are out and about until all hours and it can be pretty noisy. We didn't care--it's part of the charm of the city and the stone buildings. But if you need quiet at night, you may want ear plugs. Music is nice too.
(This is taken from my official complaint filed with HomeAway). UNSAFE RENTAL SITUATION: Apartment in Madrid was not as described because of several problems, outlined below. More importantly, THE APARTMENT WAS ENTERED BY AN INTRUDER USING KEYS.
We arrived on May 3 at about 8 PM and were met by the owner's son Miguel, who gave us the keys, showed us the apartment and took the final payment. After one night in the apartment it was apparent because of multiple problems that the apartment was not a tenable rental.
Initial problems included:
1. Water from the upstairs apartment empties through a gerry- rigged drain which runs through the ceiling and wall of the loft sleeping area, and is very loud. This happens whenever the water is used upstairs, which produces a rushing or pouring sound, followed by prolonged dribbling, occurring repeatedly throughout the night as well as the day. It prevented us from sleeping, and was our initial major complaint to the owner (after the first night). The sound is rather disgusting as well as loud.
2. The upstairs sleeping loft has a VERY low entry (well under 5 feet) because of a metal beam, on which we bumped our heads.
3. Many surfaces and items were not clean, including: walls, shower fixtures, couches, vanity in bath, cutting board, comforters. (I have submitted pix of all these with my complaint to HA.)
4. Bathroom has no towel racks, and only 3 bath towels were provided for 4 guests.
5. Furnishings are flimsy and broken (hanging artwork fell apart where a repair had previously been made and blue tables had broken wheels/legs).
After the first night we made arrangements with the owner to leave after 4 days. However, on May 5, when one member of our party was home, the door bell rang, and a few minutes later a man entered the apartment using keys which my friend saw in his hand, but ran out when he saw my friend. We notified the owner, who had the locks changed and said she would file a police report. She contends that the intruder could have picked the lock (although keys to 3 doors are needed to get into the apartment) and also stated that previous recent tenants had not returned a set of keys, so maybe it was them! (And she didn't change the lock then??). Much more likely, she or her son has given keys to someone else who uses the apartment and didn't realize that tenants were there, or who watched 3 of us leave, thought no one was there and was entering to steal valuables.
I loved the location of the apartment. Easy few minute walk to everything around the middle of Madrid. Great communication with the owner. Only issue for some people would be the noise at night, but if you are out until midnight or so like we were there was no issue. Highly recommend.
We stayed in this apartment from 23Nov-2Dec 2015. Without a doubt this was the best of the four places we stayed in during our month long visit to Spain. Besides the museums, there are only two major places in Madrid that we wanted to visit and be near to: Porto de Sol and Plaza Mayor. This apartment is minutes walk from both (you have to know the short cut). Maria is the owner, she is extremely nice and helpful. She speaks English well. The taxi stop is right outside the door for your return trip to the airport. It is a beautiful, modern and spacious apartment with two very comfortable bathrooms and a gorgeous panoramic view of the street below from the living room.
The apartment is centrally located with great view of street below. The living area is large with a soaring ceiling and loft above. It is fully equipped with kitchen appliances as well as a washing machine. The furniture was fantastic and very comfortable. The check-in and check-out process was very easy and the owner is very nice, helpful and accommodating.
Unfortunately, there is only one wall a/c unit for the living area/loft which we did not find adequate enough during our stay in June. Also, the loft and the stairs leading to the loft were also of concern, particularly a beam that will hinder anyone over 5 1/4' tall.
What a perfect place to stay to see all the major sights in Madrid! We didn't have any trouble finding it or connecting with Maria to get the keys. Maria was very helpful providing us with maps and restaurant/shopping recommendations. The apartment is clean and comfortable with lots of natural light. It is not too loud despite being on a major street, thanks to the good windows. We had a wonderful visit and hope to come back someday!
