95 sqm living space, two bedrooms and 45 sqm terrace, in conservation area
The apartment is on the first floor of an 18th century town house in a tranquil pedestrian street in the historic centre of Uzès, away from the crowds yet just a minute’s walk from the busy popular Place aux Herbes - the best of both worlds. White wooden beams and walls, limed wooden and tiled terracotta floors provide a simple backdrop for colourful textiles. A large, light and well-equipped open-plan kitchen and dining area looks on to the street, and opens through to the comfortable sitting room with huge period stone fireplace. This room provides a welcome retreat from the sun in summer.
A small and sunny glazed conservatory area with table and chairs opening on to a balcony area is perfect for cooler days and leads up two or three steps to a large sunny terrace (much sought-after in the centre of Uzès) surrounded by trees, rooftops and with glimpses of the countryside beyond.
The master bedroom has a double bed, while a second, smaller bedroom, the other side of the little salon, has twin beds. There is a shower room with WC, and second WC with basin.
The apartment provides many attractive spots to sit and read, eat, relax at different times of the year. Listen to the nightingale on an early May morning, watch the house martens swoop round late evening from the terrace in summer. If lucky, you might see a hoopoe.

About Catherine Nightingale
Originally from Cambridge, I now live in Oxford, so I love old buildings and towns steeped in history.
Catherine Nightingale purchased this Apartment in 2014
Why Catherine Nightingale chose Uzès
I got to know this area as a student, returning many years later to spend a month near Uzes in autumn 2013. That's when I saw and fell in love with the apartment. What I love about the town, in addition to its beauty, is its proximity to major centres of culture such as Avignon, Nimes and Montpellier. There are so many festivals and events from music to art and performance - not just in mid-summer but throughout the year.
What makes this Apartment unique
I haven't yet grown tired of walking up my narrow street in the evening to have a glass of wine or a coffee in my favourite bar, followed by a stroll past the Cathedral and the Duchy towers, which are all beautifully lit at night. The front of the apartment looks out on to cobbles and an ancient narrow side street with stone arches, the Rue Centrale. On the sun-trap terrace at the back, you'd think you were in another world.

Perfect Hidden Paradise
A beautifully decorated, light and bright apartment in an old french stone building in a pedestrian street with easy access to all that Uzes has to offer. A large, private terrace makes summer living very relaxing and enjoyable so too a multitude of useful information about the apartment and Uzes provided by the owner. You couldn't want for more!
So glad you had a good stay - September is such a lovely time of year in Uzès! Hope to see you again sometime.
Everything that is gorgeous about Southern France
I just couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! Uzes, the town was far beyond expectation. Architecture, atmosphere as was the apartment. So beautiful, colourful and light, it spoilt us for the
rest of our trip. I completely fell in love with Southern France and am already dreaming of our next trip. The markets were amazing, beautiful, and gorgeous - so authentic and so French! The cafes, shops everything about it, the butchers, coffee, goat’s cheese,
bread…We even had a picnic down by the river which was so quiet and pretty. Uzes had everything I could want and the apartment was superb - light, spacious, creatively put together and functional. Sasha, the gardienne, warm, friendly and helpful. - A delight.
All correspondence with the owner was helpful, considerate and lovely! Can’t wait to come back! Just don’t tell everyone!
You will have a relaxing time in this apartment
The photos do not do this apartment justice; it is huge with two bedrooms, a sociable kitchen area, plenty of relaxing seating both inside and out. The addition of the huge terrace was very welcoming; relaxing over a glass of wine as the sun went down was a highlight. The street is a tiny, cobbled street where your neighbours will greet you each day and minutes from Place des Herbes which is where lots of the cafes and restaurants are.
The location is perfect. If you like walking, there are plenty of long and short walks around the town with the opportunity for regular stops to enjoy the views or people watch with coffee breaks. Also longer hikes to nearby places of interest are easily accessible. Whilst we were there we visited Pont du Gard, Avignon, Nimes and Montpellier, all easy to get to.
Cath was very easy to deal with and responded quickly to any queries we had, the apartment was spotless, well maintained and spacious. There is a folder with tons of local information, which is up to date. She responded by email and text promptly during the booking process and beyond.
There are an abundance of cafes and restaurants offering different types of food as well as typical French food. We enjoyed many of them. We also spent a session at Pistou Cookery School, great fun and came away having learnt new skills and made some new friends. This is a must do activity as Petra can give you many hints and tips on the area
There are two weekly markets, apparently the largest in the Provence. They take over Uzes and it is fun to watch and purchase local items such as cheese, meats, and pottery but you can buy anything!
In summary, Caths' apartment is a great place to recharge your batteries, it’s spacious, comfortable, historic and in a one of the best locations to make the most of your holiday in an historic town.
What's not to like !!!!!!
We, three adults, spent 10 nights in Catherine's lovely flat so well located on a pedestrian street near the Place aux Herbes. The pictures on the site are accurate, we loved the openness of the apartment and the outdoor area. We would have no problem recommending it to anyone . Catherine is very easy to deal with, we had a most enjoyable time in charming Uzes.
Superb centrally-located Uzes apartment
Staying in Uzes in this superb centrally-located apartment was a real pleasure. Particularly enjoyable was sitting out on the terrace, with its plants and the surrounding trees (and the absence of traffic noise) was . The conservatory area was ideal for sitting and reading. The apartment was clean, well maintained and well-equipped - and it fully lived up to its advertised description.
Lovely spacious flat in great location
Very spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated flat. It is in a great location being just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. We also loved the terrace with its open views. Cath was very accommodating and easy to deal with. We had a great time and would definitely recommend. Thanks!
Uzes is one of the most beautiful towns in France, spectacularly renovated, with a strong sense of culture. Walking around the town is a delight, with its historic towers, castle, cathedral and narrow, pedestrianised streets. The central Place aux Herbes, with its shady plane trees and excellent restaurants, is a lovely rendezvous and the setting for the very popular Wednesday and Saturday markets. On Wednesdays in summer the night market is not to be missed, especially the tango dancing at the Mairie. Visitors can enjoy festivals throughout the year, from music, dance and pottery, to truffles and wine.
Uzes is an ideal centre to explore the region: the historic cities of Nimes, Arles and Avignon are all within easy reach. The sea is about an hour’s drive away but why bother when you can swim in the river right underneath the spectacular Roman Pont du Gard, just a few kilometres down the road.
The countryside around Uzes is ideal for walking, through vineyards, gorges and the garrigue. Look out for the capitelles, the old, round dry-stone shelters which are dotted around the landscape.
