Overview

Mackinaw City Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 bath (3 bedrooms, 2 bath if Bunk House added)

This cozy cottage is the perfect Michigan get-away for all 4 seasons! The cottage features birch ceilings, ash hardwood flooring, a living room, dining room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a full kitchen and even a laundry room. Stocked with everything you’ll need to enjoy your stay, just bring the groceries!

We also have an separate Bunk House located on the property for an overflow of guests. The Bunk House sleeps 2 and has it's own bathroom and kitchenette which you can rent for an additional fee.

They say “location is everything” and you won’t find a better location to enjoy all that Northern Michigan has to offer.

If you are interested in star-gazing, the cottage is located just a few minutes from the Headlands - recently designated as a 'DARK SKY PRESERVE' - one of only 10 locations in the USA! This is given to a few special areas that are free of artificial light. The night sky is breathtakingly beautiful!

In the winter, you can be on the slopes of Nubs Knob or Boyne Mountain in less than 30 minutes. If you prefer snow-shoeing or x-country skiing, the area offers the Headlands, Wilderness State Park or Mill Creek - all minutes away. The beautiful Mackinaw to Midland snowmobile/bike trail is easily accessed from Mackinaw City. Interested in a little more adventure? Try a dog-sled ride through the wilderness from a local musher! Also a great base-camp for hunters.

In the spring, birdwatchers gather from all over the country to catch a glimpse of the incredible hawk migration.

In the summer, you can be soaking up the sun on one of Lake Michigan’s most beautiful sandy beaches in a few minutes. Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Historic Fort Michilimackinac and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse are all within easy reach – as is Shepler’s Ferry dock – the ultimate transportation to Mackinac Island. The cottage also comes with kayaks and bikes for your enjoyment.

In the fall, take the color tour through the “tunnel of trees” or enjoy spectacular scenery in the Upper Peninsula, an easy drive across the mighty Mackinac Bridge. There’s nothing quite like the sound of bugling elks during mating season at Pigeon River or the mysterious call of the loon on a quiet lake. It’s all here! Hunt, fish, hike, canoe, bike – you can do it all or you can just relax by the cozy fireplace with a good book.

We can help you find additional accommodations for your next family reunion, wedding or other small get-together.

We're offering a variety of Ecotour packages in the summer and fall. Interested in kayaking the Straits of Mackinac or the Les Cheneaux Islands? How about a guided bike tour or a birding excursion? We can hook you up with an experienced guide (all equipment included) for an unforgettable adventure.

If we don't have openings, we'll help you find a cottage in the area!

Book your perfect Northern Michigan getaway today!

About Diane Moreno, Manager

When Chuck and I met, one of the many things we had in common was that we grew up vacationing in Northern Michigan. As a result of those wonderful summers, we came to love the outdoors. It was such a part of us that we knew some day we'd have our own cottage there.

Diane Moreno, Manager purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Diane Moreno, Manager chose Northern Michigan

Our son and his wife were married on Mackinac Island a few years ago and that was when we decided to purchase this great cottage. We wanted to provide a special place for our children to bring their children in the years to come and we found the perfect spot. In 2012, we completely renovated the Bunk House to give us some additional space as our family continues to grow.

What makes this cottage unique

We can walk to the beaches, Mackinac Island ferries, the lighthouse, the fort or any number of great restaurants or shops. We can drive to Sault Ste Marie, Whitefish Point, Tahquamenon Falls, St. Ignace, the Les Cheneaux Islands, Drummond Island or Petoskey in about an hour. We love the outdoors and the possibilities are endless here. Swim, fish, kayak, canoe, sail, hike, bike, scuba dive, hunt, bird watch - you name it! It's all available there.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We absolutely loved the beach on Wilderness Rd. The water is beautiful, warm, we even kayaked there :). We liked the Island, loved the City of Mackinaw and just loved being here at the cottage. We even cooked by the campfire - the girls really liked that!

This was a great place for a family vacation!! Our favorite thing was the beach! Thanks so much.

The best first family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the first vacation my husband and I have experienced in more than a decade, and the very first family vacation we have ever tried.

My oldest son has autism and, until recently, it was practically impossible for us to do many of the "normal" family activities that everyone takes for granted - including vacations. My husband and I both grew up vacationing in the summer, with a special focus on experiencing all that northern Michigan has to offer. It has been our deepest wish to take our boys up there and show them all the things we loved to do as kids, (and try a few new things we've never before tried).

This week could not have been more perfect! Every evening we sat down and "planned" the day trip we would make the next day. Every day this week it was supposed to RAIN too, so I was nervous how that would go. However, no matter where we went (the Island, Tahquamenon Falls, White Fish Point, Sturgeon Bay Beach) the weather was more than perfect. Seriously- not too hot, not too humid and NO rain. We really felt as though we had a charmed vacation. And we are very grateful. Everyone enjoyed the experience and the boys are already talking about what we should do next year.

The cottage was the PERFECT "home base" for us while we introduced the boys to northern Michigan. It provided a home-like space where we could build in a routine and my son could feel comfortable. It was small enough to offer the cozy, "cottage-feel" I wanted, while still offering sufficient space and privacy when someone needed to catch their breath. It was very clean, well-maintained, and offered all the amenities as advertised in the listing. The owner even provided a ready-to-light fire pit for roasting marshmallows at night. The cottage is perfectly located a few blocks from downtown Mackinaw City with easy access to parks, beaches, shopping, restaurants, etc. The owners were only a phone call away and offered great tips about restaurants to try and a lovely local beach (that was the most beautiful/clean beach I have ever seen!) We could not be more satisfied or grateful for such wonderful accommodation.

Thank you Diane, for a providing a safe, comfortable home base where we could experience a really fun and memorable family vacation. To see our boys enjoy all our favorite childhood activities, explore many beautiful places in northern Michigan and, most of all, to feel like a "normal" family is truly priceless. We highly recommend this cottage.

Nice, but lacking a few things.

  • 3 of 5

The house was was in a great location. Was clean. The description of what is available in the house(especially the kitchen) should be updated. It says a full

kitchen of supplies, but there were no measuring cups or spoons at all. Only two coffee cups and very little utensils. We feel the manager didn't supply

all the info completely. It said we were suppose supply certain items (which was fine), but when we got there it had all of the items. Description said there

was a charcoal grill, but we couldn't find one. We don't feel the description of everything was explained correctly. It was a good property, just needs

some things.

This cottage was very cute, clean, comfortable and close to everything I wanted it to be. I'd recommend it to anyone that is coming to visit the area. It had everything one would need to enjoy a vacation and was very well equipped and decorated.

Cozy Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend this location. We enjoyed a beautiful Easter weekend snug in this clean, convenient and comfortable cottage. It was walking distance to town and to the lake. A very nice "Up North" get away spot.

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect in every way. We were able to cook and/or grill our meals. Everything we needed was on hand. The cottage is wonderfully decorated, with a lot of beautiful books to look through. We did a lot of sightseeing. Our favourite was the Dark Sky Park minutes away. The trip to the island was another of our favourite things.
