We’re from Virginia, and we love OBX. We’re a family of four charming boys… all under the age of 11. Needless to say, we have our hands full! We are an adventurous bunch, who love to explore all that the Outer Banks have to offer (including Beach Nirvana's landscaped terrains and Chicahauk's bike trails). Our favorite message for our guests is “Have fun and don’t forget your sunscreen!” (SPF 50!) Best wishes and thanks for visiting our site, The Pairs
The Owner purchased this house in 2004
Growing up in Virginia and residing in New York City now, we miss our Southern beaches! OBX is unique, and an overall great place. We found this house shortly after visiting India and decided it was our “Beach Nirvana,” our suburban beach oasis in the midst of our busy city lives. It’s a great place to spend quality time with our kids, friends, and large extended family. We love the memories that come with enjoying family & friends together and watching our kids play in the sand. We invite you to share in the experience and build your memories at Beach Nirvana, too. It's a relaxing time away for you and yours.
This house (and surrounding property) is a true vacation home. It is secluded and peaceful, all the while being in a busy beach town. We added the Observation Tower in 2007 because you could smell the ocean air & hear the waves crash (in the evening with the windows open), but couldn't see the ocean through the trees. Now, you can feel it, hear it, and see it. The 360 degree view is surreal. We get a lot of inquires about the intensity and actual distance of the walk to the beach. It’s not bad at all...280 yards/approx 10 min. In fact, it’s a fun stroll to the beach! You pass a turtle pond via the walking/biking paths on your way, and the kids enjoy a nature stroll, which is a bonus. This house is truly peaceful, as the name “Nirvana” implies. It is a worthwhile visit and good long stay! Hope you plan your vacation with us!
We shared this beach house with another family and stayed there for a week(4 kids and 4 adults). It was in a great location and kids loved everything about the house. House was kept very clean and well maintained.
Huge swimming pool, a clean hot tub, outside showers, bluetooth speaker system near the swimming pool were the highlights of this house. Although it was half a mile away from the beach, it wasn't a big deal. We preferred to stay back most of the times. Lot of shops and restaurants close by and adventure sports within 5 mile distance.
Robb provided all the instructions necessary for the stay and he was very helpful to answer questions that we had during the stay. I would have given 5 stars if it was not for the mattresses that were squeaky, which Robb is trying to replace.
My family and I stayed at Beach Nirvana in July, and there were a lot of disappointments to this property and the service from the owner. However, there were a few good things to mention.
Positives: the location is great, and we liked that it was a quiet neighborhood with shade tree to run in the mornings. It is located close to Harris Teeter and Walmart for easy trips. The pool is nice and big, and it receives a good amount of shade in the afternoon.
Negatives: The inside of this house has not been updated in 11 years! The furnishings look and feel really old. Most importantly, the beds are not very comfortable, and the bedding needs replacing. Read: bring your own pillows (all the ones they have are stained yellow), and blankets! The kitchen cookware was just OK, except that there were ants in the kitchen, so we had to keep all opened food in the fridge. The pantry did not seem clean, so we kept all our unopened boxes and cans on the counter. Also had to kill a giant roach in the basement!
The temperature in the house is also very strange. They have 3 thermostats to control different areas, but it seems like every room was either too hot or too cold. The twin bedroom by the pool was absolutely freezing! But the master suite on the bottom floor was hot at night.
The house is filled with odds and ends that seem randomly hung, and rooms are oddly painted. For the price, the inside needed to be updated with newer furniture, mattresses, cleaner carpet, and a more cohesive design.
The pool is really big which was nice, but it wasn't especially clean. We brought goggles to swim with and the bottom of the pool was filled with dirt and debris! Plus no umbrellas.
Lastly, the contract agreement states that the owner has 45 days to return the security deposit. He did not do this, so we had to call VRBO and open a complaint against him. Only then was the payment initiated (still waiting for it to appear on our CC statement). With a house that turns over week after week, it should pretty easy to assess if the tenants did any damage or not and then pay them accordingly.
All in all, this house needs a lot of work for the price you pay. The owner does not include any beach items (chairs, buckets etc), nor do they provide clean linens. I might expect this for a less expensive property, but for what we paid this house is overpriced and underwhelming. I hope the owner takes the proper steps to either adjust the price or redo the home.
Our group included 4 adults, 2 college students and a high school student. The dining area had more than enough space and each of us could find our own place in the house to do as we pleased. The place was very clean and well-prepared when we arrived. The kitchen had everything needed and there was plenty of dishes and silverware for the 8 of us. While at the house, we saw plenty of wildlife - deer in the yard, a fox, squirrels playing every day on the top of the pool fence, and the animals my family call - ew - a snake and some chameleons (or lizards). The pool was fantastic and so was the hot tub. When we didn't go out to eat, the gas grill was great. Lots of furniture on the decks and plenty of furniture near the pool. There are 2 adult bikes and 4 or 5 kids bikes. We didn't make use of these, but there are many areas off the main roads to do some riding.
Robb was VERY attentive to our questions and problems - the A/C service came and fixed a problem the same day we reported it to Robb. The walk to the beach was very easy (about 10 minutes) and the passes to park across the street from the beach entrance came in handy for pap pap. We learned the next to last day of our stay that there is a rinse station near the entrance to the Chicahauk trail parking lot. This was handy to rinse beach stuff and feet before getting into our vehicles.
The place was less than 5 minutes from WalMart, Food Lion, Rite Aid, Home Depot and a Medical Center. And on Saturdays and Sundays when traffic gets bad on route 12 between Kitty Hawk and Duck, you can get to the house on the inland side via Juniper Dr and avoid the traffic. All of the neighbors we saw (most of which appeared to be full time residents) were very friendly too.
We left our electric griddle in the kitchen and did not realize it for several days. I contacted Robb about it - he had the maid service confirm the griddle was still in the house and worked with our friends who are vacationing in the Outer Banks to let them in the house to get our griddle. Robb also offered to retrieve it and get it back to us later this year. Try getting that kind of service in a condo or hotel.
If we come back to the Outer Banks in the future, we will definitely try to reserve this house again.
Thanks Robb for the great vacation place and all of your assistance during our stay.
We had a great time at this house! We rented it with another family. It was a good location between off road driving in corolla and nags head. Love that it was a check in on Sunday. Saturday check ins are horrendous. ;). The house was spacious and had two en suites. The pool was the best!! As well as the crows nest to hang out. We can't wait to go back!
We loved this house. The pool was very nice, we always hung out there after the day at the beach. I think some outdoor furniture at the pool and on the decks would be a very nice addition. Right now there are only a few chairs and most of them are broken. We always like to enjoy being outside when at the beach. The inside of the house was very pretty and well furnished. Very quiet neighborhood. Nice area for runs, walks or bike rides. You can walk to a grocery store easily if you only need a few items and want to avoid getting in the car. Depending on the amount of stuff you take to the beach, the walk from the house can be long but totally doable! Some days we drove up and dropped things off close to the access point but if you have teenagers they can carry the heavy loads!
Pool was excellent. We felt the pool really made the vacation. Hot tub was good also. Walk to the beach wast a little farther than anticipated, we clocked it at 4/10 of a mile one way. But mostly we just used the pool, very relaxing. Some in our family felt the walk was too far so we dropped them off in our car. House itself was very good, master bedroom on upper level, with second master and 2 other bedrooms on first level. Great if you have bigger kids that want their space, or a second couple. Nice quiet neighborhhod.
