Isle La Motte Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Annex loft sleeps 6; two private bedrooms and open sleeping area

Isle La Motte Lake Gem! Located on Isle La Motte's west shore fronting beautiful Lake Champlain. Includes more than 750 feet of beach on a private point of land with protected cove. Mountain views, spectacular sunsets. One hour from Burlington, Vermont and just over an hour to Montreal, Quebec.

Please note that 'The Annex' is semi-private. It shares the property with 'The Old Home Place', which is the original 1835 farmhouse that occupied the property. They share no common walls but both have the garage in common where the washer & dryer are located.

Both spaces are ideal for two families.

Island great for cycling and roller blading. A lovely walk or short drive to the fabulous arts program at Fisk Farm on Sundays, or the quarry for hikes any time.

Check out Alburg Golf Links. It's only 10 minutes away!

Amazing, relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to spend 9 days at The Annex, and just fell in love with Isle La Motte! This house is all about the beach, which is very private– you will have it completely to yourselves, if nobody is staying in the attached farm house. Sunsets were gorgeous every night. The deck is fantastic– it has a partial view of the water, and is nestled in the trees, making it a perfect, shady place for reading or eating meals in the daytime, and a magical spot in the evening, with crickets singing from all directions.

The house itself is functional and well-equipped. We had everything we needed for cooking, grilling, etc. We brought our Roku, and plugged it into the TV, to catch up on some movies in the evenings– the internet was plenty fast for that, as well as for a couple of days of work I had to do. The bedrooms were tiny, but the beds were comfortable, and there were plenty of fans to keep cool. If you are looking for a vacation home in which everything is brand spanking new, this may not be the place for you. But if you appreciate funky art, vintage furniture and books, then you're in for a treat.

We took daily rides around the island on the two "beater" bikes that come with the house and really enjoyed a concert at Fisk Farm, ice-wine tasting at Hall House (do not miss this!), and TWO dinners at Ruthcliffe Lodge– the first was so good, we had to go back. Note- the bikes have no headlights, and the island gets *very* dark on a moonless night, so be sure and bring some duct tape so you can tape your phone to the front :) Most fun I've had in ages.

Lastly, Kathy, the owner, was wonderfully helpful and went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review!!! More, thanks for falling in love with Isle La Motte and for expressing the vibe of The Annex so accurately. We are delighted that you took pleasure in and advantage of the magic at your fingertips, and took the time to let us know!! And, on a totally practical note, thanks for the great idea - headlights for the bikes. We're on it!!

Family vacation for 18

  • 4 of 5

We just had a family vacation for 18 members. We rented the annex, old house and another cottage a short distance down the coast. We enjoyed canoeing, sailing and swimming between the cottages. Walking and riding bikes around the island was fun with interesting spots to explore the shrine, fisk farm, looking for fossils, and of course going to the ice cream parlor for "Creamees". Some people explored Montreal, shopping to Essex, Burlington, Teddy Bear Museum and Shelburne Museum. All were easy day trips and with time to be "home" for a family dinner. Followed by breath-taking sunsets, beach bonfires and family time.

The caretakers were helpful and accommodating with getting into the units and as needed during the stay. .

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review. Yes, we are thrilled that you experienced so much of what feel Isle La Motte has to offer for family vacations - big or small. So glad it worked out with our neighbour's rental- such a short walk away - we hadn't thought of swimming but clearly you enjoyed it. Glad you enjoyed the beach which stretches w-i-d-e for those Lake Champlain sunsets. We are delighted that things unfolded as they did!! This summer has been a banner one for wild life - herons or bald eagles fishing in the cove, cardinals in the cherry tree, or that rascal of a chipmunk playing hide and seek.

A bunch of high school girlfriends all got together after 40 years! What a perfectly relaxing setting to celebrate, catch up, watch sunrises, take nature strolls and enjoy Sunday concerts and afternoon tea at Fisk Farm just down the road. Not to mention all the comforts of home and everything you might need fully enjoy the waterfront on beautiful Lake Champlain. Would be perfect for family reunions too!

Great Vermont Lake House

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in The Annex on Isle La Motte. The island is secluded, but it is not desolate. We went to Fisk Farm for Sunday afternoon tea our first full day; it is an easy walk away. The tea and sweets were delightful, the crowd was small and friendly, and the music was excellent considering the intimate surroundings and the price. (Free!) It took us too long to discover the South End Cafe & Hall's Orchard, about a mile away, with great coffee and more. The maple creamees at the local stand was another unanticipated treat. The island is a cyclist's paradise, but we left our bikes at home. No problem, though; Allenholme Farm in South Hero (about 30 minutes away) rented us bikes and we were able to spend a day exploring on two wheels. We took another day to go to the Adirondacks. Poke o' Moonshine is one of several nice hikes less than 90 minutes away, with a fire tower on top that affords spectacular views of the high peaks and a fair chunk of Lake Champlain, too. We stopped at Rulf's Orchard, right off I-87 just south of Plattsburgh, on the way home and picked some blueberries. This all left plenty of time to stay at the lake house and enjoy the shore. Most houses on the west shore of Isle La Motte have the road between them and the lake, but not this one. The lake is right out the door and the expansive shoreline is just as advertised. We used the row boat to have some fun on the water, too.

The bedrooms are cozy, tucked under the eaves, the beds are comfortable, and the bathroom is clean and functional, though not large. The kitchen is serviceable, too; cooked almost all our meals using the pots, pans, and utensils on hand. (The grill is great!) We brought a huge jigsaw puzzle to work on when it rained (and it did rain!); there was lots of room for it on the spacious dining room table. Don't choose this lake house for the furnishings, which are clean and well-tended, but not modern or luxurious. Choose this one for the location! It is truly a gem. Spots like this are usually outside our price range, so this one is a treasure.

Downsides? It's a half-an-hour to a supermarket, so best to bring food with you. The sound on the TV was muddy, so we watched movies on the computers we brought. The internet was plenty fast enough to stream HD video.

Can't close without mentioning Kathy, the owner. She was hospitable and helpful throughout our stay. We feel fortunate to have stumbled on this place, and to have made her acquaintance.

Beautiful place, amazing host

  • 5 of 5

A group of women friends and I rented this place to gather together on the lake and take a breather. I can't begin to capture how happy we were with the home and Kathy! She is an amazing host, and goes the extra mile to make you feel right at home. We loved the house, the light, the sound of the lake waves at night, swimming on the lake, and the cozy beds. If you're looking for a great place to get away on Lake Champlain, I highly recommend this home!

Owner's Response: It is such a delight when the expectations of the guests, and host, are met! What a fine group of talented, spirited and appreciative young women - your arrival enough to turn Mother Nature's head from a scowling grey morning into a sun-filled afternoon and evening, all the more enjoyable for your maxing out your enjoyment of the amenities - from windsurfing to BBQing, celebrating to sleeping. Please come again!

Just right for our vacation and wedding

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks, and had a wedding in the middle of the stay. There are too many positive things to say in this review not only about the property itself, but also the owner, Kathy, and her property manager Debbie. They were incredibly excited that we wanted to have our wedding on their property and made the planning incredibly easy for us. We really appreciated how involved Kathy was to make sure our special day went off without a hitch. All of our wedding guests commented on how beautiful the property was.

The property itself was just what we were looking for. It has a very private beach area (make sure you bring beach shoes, the zebra mussels are everywhere) as well as a cove that was perfect for launching our kayak. The kids (ages 6 and 7) always had something fun to do, and the adults enjoyed the quiet beach, lovely bike rides along the west coast of the island, and beautiful sunsets. We rented both the old house and the annex because we had the in-laws staying with us and were very happy with both. The accommodations are not fancy (but then we didn't want fancy) and everything in the houses were in good working condition.

We would strongly recommend a stay here to anyone with a desire for a tranquil, easy stay on beautiful Isle La Motte.

The property, on a distinct peninsula, also works for ceremony or celebration. We have hosted family reunions, several parties of wedding guests, and even a small wedding! Magic!
