Ed and Tina Carter
About Ed and Tina Carter
My husband Ed and I live on a working farm at the foot of Keeney Mt in Grassy Meadows, WV. Road name changes and 911 address changes have us with an Alderson mailing address, making it really fun for the UPS and FedEx drivers. I even had trouble listing our cabin on Keeney Mt Rd; the map would not recognize the location. When my husband told me our road was forever called Ford Hollow Road, I plugged the name in and it came right up! Ed is the full-time farmer right now, I work as a WV Weights and Measures Inspector with a four county area. Every spare minute I have though is used to be outside helping with the animals and farm chores. Ed along with a cousin or two, would spent summers here as kids helping his grandpa in the hay. In 1979, at 20 yrs old he moved here to be with his grandpa. I am from this area, raised on a dairy farm, and graduated from the local high school. I received my B.S. in Ag. Business from WVU in 1987. We both love this way of life; although sometimes heartbreaking and back breaking, we wouldn't have changed a thing.

Extraordinary getaway! Hosts amazing!
My family and I were looking to get away from suburbia to see a bit of this beautiful country, in a rustic, quirky but clean and cozy spot and Sugar Camp was perfect. You can feel the care and ethic of Tina and Ed all around. We spent Thanksgiving as a family and just enjoyed the ambiance and darling touches in the house, spectacular views, crisp cool air, and such peace and quiet. Tina has left thanksgiving plates and napkins and we got to cooking right away!!! Such a great meal in that cozy space. On a walk the next day we met Ed who was SOOO KIND, and popped up later and invited us to see the farm and area. HUGE hit seeing the pigs and gathering a few eggs. We went riding UTVs Saturday and rested so well in one of the comfiest beds I’ve known. We departed Sunday, and I kid you not, my 18 year old had tears in his eyes to leave. Ed and Tina are wonderful, kind, genuine people and if you want an experience that isn’t fancy, but has just what’s in order to renew - you really can’t go wrong.
Vacation Home in Heaven
If you appreciate craftsmanship, attention to detail, beautiful scenery and exceptional hosts, you'll love Tina and Ed's cabin.
My wife and I were celebratimg our second wedding anniversary and wanted a special experience. After careful consideration and looking at over 100 cabins in Virginia and West Virginia we decided on Sugar Camp Cabin. We wanted a unique cabin with a feel of authenticity that you just don't get when you stay at a hotel. We also wanted our own space so that we could be together that wasn't interrupted by traffic noise. While we love animals didn't want to be annoyed by other peoples pets and their mess. This was a new type of experience for us. So often we are disappointed by hotels that give misleading information, rude or apathetic staff and fail to deliver an enjoyable stay. My wife likes new things and she is difficult to please when she doesn't like something.
We live in Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington DC. It was a long drive to Sugar Camp Cabin. Tina was really great about helping us find the property and Ed met us down the road from the cabin and escorted us up the gravel road .
From the moment we arrived my wife and I felt like we were Home and my wife started making plans to come back with her family. Ed had lit a fire for us outside in the firepit. The cabin is brand new with some reclaimed wood from Ed's mother's house that provide a mixture of the convenience and peace of mind that come from e new home with a sense of history and familiarity. The heat works wonderfully. We watched tv, cooked dinner and breakfast, and sat outside and just listened to the quiet peacefulness..The premium king size bed was super comfortable. We enjoyed the loft above the living room area and the rolling doors leading to the bathrooms.
Then there is the homey feel of decor. Tina handmade several of the quilts and throughout the cabin there are unique items that remind you that you are on a working farm along with pleasant signs like the kind in your mother's home.
If all this sounds great its because of the people who built it for their quests. Its quality, craftsmanship and location are equally matched by Tina and Ed's hospitality, graciousness ans grace.
I have to stop writing now because I am out of space. In short, stay here with your family, with your friends and create memories that you'll have for a lifetime.
I hope to stay here many times.
Tina and Ed’s cabin was clean, organized and peaceful. It had everything we needed for our weekend stay. The cabin is in a beautiful setting and we had a wonderful stay. We are already talking about when we can schedule another visit to Sugar Creek Cabin. Five stars for everything.
This was the best renting vacation, i every took
Excellent, relaxing, beautiful, amazing, quiet Very nice must have the experience!!!!
Best vacation rental we've ever had!!
We booked to stay here with friends while our husbands golfed and we went to the WV State Fair. Unfortunately at plans fell through. But we kept the reservation and Road our Harley. I would caution only a seasoned rider should try going up the gravel driveway to the cabin. My husbands parent said joined us a few days later. We fell in love with the cabin. The location is beautiful and the amenities are far beyond any rental we have stayed. We had all ththe fixings for s'mores, spices, farm fresh eggs, homemade jelly, and all manner of cookware. My motherinlaw makes jelly but enjoyed what was in the fridge so much she bought all 3 jars on ther h counter that were for sale. We used the small charcoal grill to do hamburgers one evening and my husband liked it so well he ordere a grill like it as soon as we got home. We enjoyed Belgium waffles with homemade jelly an also with the fresh syrup in th fridge from the waffle maker there. We set out by the fire pit or on the porch and wanted to stay forever. We missed getting to meet Tima or Ed but know from the wonderful touches all through their cabin that they are incredible people. We definitely plan to return again.
I will share a great tip. We were concerned about finding the cabin since it is in a rural area with several turns (but still very close to I64) so we found the address for the church located right before the road the cabin is on and our GPS took us right to the church and we only had one right turn, went about a mile and then up the driveway to the cabin. It worked perfectly. The church address is: 1397 Snake Run Road, Alderson, WV 24910 and our Garmin routed right to it.
Tina and Ed, Thanks so ,UHC for allowing us to stay in your rental. We loved everything about it!! Not one negative thing to say!!
So sorry we didn’t get to run up! We both really appreciate your positive feedback, makes us feel like we made the right decision in this venture! Thank you, Tina
Beautiful cabin with amazing views
Thank you Tina and Ed for allowing us to stay at your beautiful cabin. Everything was wonderful, and the area is amazing. The cabin felt like home immediately and we definitely will be coming back. The kids really enjoyed the space to be able to run around and I loved the quiet time I got in the morning looking at the mountains enjoying coffee. Could not have asked for more. The cabin is amazing and even better in person. Tina and Ed were wonderful and by far this is my favorite place we have stayed at from Vrbo!!
