Sleeping up to 14 people, The Lodge at The Hanging Grape Ranch is the perfect setting to re-aquiant families of any size. Each of our unique rooms offer a personalized touch to help you relax, unwind, & get away from it all. Although we do offer full satellite television & high speed internet access, we recommend turning off you electronic devices to enjoy true nature & each other's company.
"What if we get bored" you say? The Hanging Grape Ranch offers numerous outdoor activities to keep even the most restless of us adventure bound! Catch fish to your heart's content in our stocked tank. Explore canyons, caves & beautiful mountain top vistas from our hiking trails. Arrange a personalized tour of the ranch from "Opa" to lean more of the local flora, fauna, history, & even help feed the cows!
Or better yet, do absolutely nothing. Simply enjoy the afternoon breeze under the shady live oaks in our back yard. Catch a beautiful hill country sunset from our front porch. Cook over open flame & relax around the rock fire pit in the evenings. And then there's the stars... especially the stars.
Like to hike, but not the whole family? Some can hang out at the lodge and some can hike. There are 7+ miles of hiking trails. Part of it is an old wagon trail. There is a 200 foot overlook with 50 mile views and a canyon and road down the side or climb down, take your choice. I also do a ranch tour for $150 extra and you get to ride down the same canyon, feed cows, and take in nature the easy way. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a 1280 acre ranch. Bring your bike. Bring a group. Check out our website at www.hanginggrape.com or search "Pontotoc Lodge" on You Tube. Also check out Pontotoc memories on you tube. See what you have been missing.
Want a wine tour in Fredericksburg? Check out www.moonsvinyardvoyages.com. Add $200 to their rates and they will pick you up and return you to the lodge.
Activities & things to do: Many guests visit Colorado Bend State Park (San Saba Co), the Eckert James River Bat cave (Mason Co), Enchanted Rock (Llano County), Vanishing River Cruise (Burnet County), and the new rock stacking park at the bridge in Llano. See Internet for information.
Of course a day in Fredericksburg is always a lot of fun.
The lodge is popular with reunion groups, large families, several families, home school families, winter Texans, women groups, and Christian or boy/girl scout groups and anyone wanting a break from the whirlwind of towns and spend a weekend or week in the country. Enjoy sitting around the round the fire pit in the back yard, listening to the coyotes, watching the deer sneak up to see what’s going on.
This is a wonderful place to unwind, but it is remote. There are no nearby stores. Remember you will be in the middle of a Texas ranch. You will need to bring your own food. I do have a butane grill, a wood grill or cook on the pit in the back yard. You will be equal distance for Brady, San Saba, Mason, and Llano. Llano has a place called Miiller's Llano Smokehouse and Mercantile that can make you some excellent meat and cheese snack plates. They have won many awards for their meats. They can make a plate for any number. I can accommodate you on getting the snack plates ordered and delivered. It is great deal for large families or groups that want to stay several nights and tour the local sites. Some of the group can come at separate times.
Since it is so remote with only a few lights glowing on the horizon and none directly it is an excellent place to bring your telescope and star gaze. The ranch tour gives kids an idea of the ranch setting. We feed cows and hear about how they are raised. I also include a history of an old wagon trail on the ranch and historical events that happened in the hill country that really are not covered that much in the history books. I also include some geological history as we drive through several geological formations on the tour. Of course, the information is edited to fit the group. The main reason for the whole tour is to have fun. Answering kids questions is sometimes the most fun thing we do. For more video check out you tube and Pontotoc memories God Bless Texas
