House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Mockingbird Cottage is settled in the middle of the Finger Lakes Region in central New York. Our beautiful home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and sits on 1.3 acres. This house is nestled among mature trees and several meticulously maintained perennial gardens. The property has been professionally landscaped for over ten years and is gorgeous.
On the outside, this house has a fenced in back yard with a deck, Adirondack chairs and picnic table with umbrella. Eating outside on the deck in the summer is one of our favorite things to do. It’s also a great way to stay dry and watch while one of the occasional ten-minute summer storms rolls in and has it raining buckets one minute and the next not a cloud in the sky. There are extensive perennial gardens and beautiful natural stonework.
Our cottage is of moderate dimension, and though it looks small from the outside, it is rather deceiving. With eight rooms and pleasant sense of space, there are essentially three living rooms in this cottage. The first one is more cozy than spacious. The couch is a large sectional and the end chair reclines to a full lay down position. The 27-inch TV and gas fireplace are also in this room. The second living room is quite large and has sliding glass doors that go out to the deck and yard. The third living room, is the smallest of the three. It has a wood-burning fireplace, a love seat and chair. With the fireplace sitting area as the center, the downstairs also has two of the three bedrooms, a bathroom with a small shower (the upstairs bathroom is a full bath), laundry room, and separate entrance to the backyard. The downstairs feels connected, yet separate from the upstairs. In terms of space, and the way it's laid out, the cottage has a feeling of privacy for those who need it while having adequate space for a group to feel connected.
The cottage has hardwood floors, new paint and carpets, one wood-burning fireplace (with plenty of wood provided), one gas fireplace, central vacuum, washer and dryer, living room, dining room, and family room with television, DVD player and a extensive DVD library with over 300 movies. There are lots of unique built-ins throughout the house that add to its cottage-like character. The first-floor bedroom has a queen bed, built-in dresser and sliding glass doors that look out to several acres of soothing pastoral views. The entire house is beautifully furnished in Pottery Barn style and has a library of with several hundred books, including a large selection of cookbooks. Fine linens are provided, accompanied by down comforters.
The Finger Lakes Region is a beautiful area with many lakes. Our cottage is located just five miles southeast of the tip of Cayuga Lake, where you can participate in kayaking, waterskiing, sailing, power boating and water sports. Also, the cottage is about 40 minutes from Greek Peak Ski Resort, several state parks, and dozens of wineries, and just under one hour from Skaneateles Lake. For anyone considering visiting Cornell University, we are only two minutes from the Cornell Vet School, two minutes from East Hill Plaza and six minutes from Cornell’s main campus and Ithaca’s downtown Commons.

About Suzanne Loesch
We are a couple that has been together for 25 years. We love to travel and both of us have small businesses we run in town. We have a stationery store called Mockingbird Paperie and a corporate and start up consulting business. We love dogs and have five of them! we both come from large families one is Italian the other Irish... so we never argue. I (suzanne ) am from San Francisco California and When I met Tim we fell in love and he brought me back to the finger lakes region where he grew up. We have two adult daughters that are both artists and we look forward to having you at our cottage!
Suzanne Loesch purchased this House in 2006
Why Suzanne Loesch chose Dryden
We live very close by and every time we drove by we would pass this house and notice it's charm and uniqueness and the people that lived in it became our friends and landscapers. The landscaping is what blew my mind and at one point the house had won an award for best landscaped house in Ithaca, I asked the owner if she was ever to consider selling to please let us know. She did and we bought it and a year later we turned it into Mockingbird Cottage.
What makes this House unique
It's a country house that feels like it's not too far away from town.. We are minutes to Cornell and minutes to the lake and town.

Loved this cottage, so much like home, will stay again!
We rented this cottage for 3 nights while visiting our daughter at Cornell. It was so comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook and bake. We enjoyed spending time at the house with her and some of her friends in between other activities. We also enjoyed the movie/dvd collection and the backyard views were gorgeous! We will definitely stay again.
I always worry a little as the cottage looks much different after all the leaves have fallen. but clearly that didn't matter...And I am glad. In the winter it's enough just make a cup of cocoa and a bag of popcorn and bundle up to watch a movie. It's funny you mentioned then DVD's...I have been collecting for 20 years and last year my husband said, "I think there are too many movies" Is that even possible? Anyway the things you have mentioned in your review are so important to us when we travel so we want it to be like that for everyone that comes here. Thanks for visiting.
Do come back again,
Great location and lovely house!
We loved the location, the beds were very comfortable, the owners were so nice and accommodating, and the house had everything we could possibly need. The only reason I didn't give this property 5 stars is because 2 of the bedrooms are located in the lower level of the home and it was a little damp down there. The upstairs was perfect, and I imagine that when the heat is going, the downstairs probably feels different.
Property was beautiful
Property was beautiful, house was good size and just what we needed. I was there with my husband and 2 children, and my parents.
We really enjoyed our stay, inside and out.
Adorable and comfortable home!
We had a wonderful stay at this home! It was well stocked with the essentials (I.e. Kitchen supplies, linens, coffee/tea, condiments, etc). Although the tv's lacked cable, the availability of dvd's, wifi, and Netflix kept us entertained during our downtime. The large backyard and front yard gave our kids and dog plenty of space to run around. This home is a bit far from the main Ithaca attractions, but well worth the extra few miles of driving!
Very nicely appointed house. It was clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. Backyard was great.
The house is close to Ithaca and Cornell. It was easy to get to everything we wanted to do. We enjoyed sitting in the backyard in the evening.
This home worked really well for 2 couples since the bedrooms were both upstairs and downstairs. There was a third bedroom also. The kitchen was well equipped. The backyard is beautiful.
Thank you for the sweet review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the gardens. You know at one pointMockingbird Cottage had the second best garden in all of Ithaca....It was before we owned it. Anyway, we thank you for being lovely guests, and hope you come back to visit again!
