Mockingbird Cottage, Minutes from Cayuga Lake and Cornell

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Mockingbird Cottage is settled in the middle of the Finger Lakes Region in central New York. Our beautiful home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and sits on 1.3 acres. This house is nestled among mature trees and several meticulously maintained perennial gardens. The property has been professionally landscaped for over ten years and is gorgeous.

On the outside, this house has a fenced in back yard with a deck, Adirondack chairs and picnic table with umbrella. Eating outside on the deck in the summer is one of our favorite things to do. It’s also a great way to stay dry and watch while one of the occasional ten-minute summer storms rolls in and has it raining buckets one minute and the next not a cloud in the sky. There are extensive perennial gardens and beautiful natural stonework.

Our cottage is of moderate dimension, and though it looks small from the outside, it is rather deceiving. With eight rooms and pleasant sense of space, there are essentially three living rooms in this cottage. The first one is more cozy than spacious. The couch is a large sectional and the end chair reclines to a full lay down position. The 27-inch TV and gas fireplace are also in this room. The second living room is quite large and has sliding glass doors that go out to the deck and yard. The third living room, is the smallest of the three. It has a wood-burning fireplace, a love seat and chair. With the fireplace sitting area as the center, the downstairs also has two of the three bedrooms, a bathroom with a small shower (the upstairs bathroom is a full bath), laundry room, and separate entrance to the backyard. The downstairs feels connected, yet separate from the upstairs. In terms of space, and the way it's laid out, the cottage has a feeling of privacy for those who need it while having adequate space for a group to feel connected.

The cottage has hardwood floors, new paint and carpets, one wood-burning fireplace (with plenty of wood provided), one gas fireplace, central vacuum, washer and dryer, living room, dining room, and family room with television, DVD player and a extensive DVD library with over 300 movies. There are lots of unique built-ins throughout the house that add to its cottage-like character. The first-floor bedroom has a queen bed, built-in dresser and sliding glass doors that look out to several acres of soothing pastoral views. The entire house is beautifully furnished in Pottery Barn style and has a library of with several hundred books, including a large selection of cookbooks. Fine linens are provided, accompanied by down comforters.

The Finger Lakes Region is a beautiful area with many lakes. Our cottage is located just five miles southeast of the tip of Cayuga Lake, where you can participate in kayaking, waterskiing, sailing, power boating and water sports. Also, the cottage is about 40 minutes from Greek Peak Ski Resort, several state parks, and dozens of wineries, and just under one hour from Skaneateles Lake. For anyone considering visiting Cornell University, we are only two minutes from the Cornell Vet School, two minutes from East Hill Plaza and six minutes from Cornell’s main campus and Ithaca’s downtown Commons.

About Suzanne Loesch

We are a couple that has been together for 25 years. We love to travel and both of us have small businesses we run in town. We have a stationery store called Mockingbird Paperie and a corporate and start up consulting business. We love dogs and have five of them! we both come from large families one is Italian the other Irish... so we never argue. I (suzanne ) am from San Francisco California and When I met Tim we fell in love and he brought me back to the finger lakes region where he grew up. We have two adult daughters that are both artists and we look forward to having you at our cottage!

Suzanne Loesch purchased this house in 2006

Why Suzanne Loesch chose Cayuga Lake

We live very close by and every time we drove by we would pass this house and notice it's charm and uniqueness and the people that lived in it became our friends and landscapers. The landscaping is what blew my mind and at one point the house had won an award for best landscaped house in Ithaca, I asked the owner if she was ever to consider selling to please let us know. She did and we bought it and a year later we turned it into Mockingbird Cottage.

What makes this house unique

It's a country house that feels like it's not too far away from town.. We are minutes to Cornell and minutes to the lake and town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at Mockingbird Cottage!!!

we enjoyed the beautiful house, yard, the delicious raspberries and the amazing flowering gardens around the house!!!! WE also enjoyed the many animals in the yard, such as birds, chipmunks, adorable baby bunnies and ground hog living near the barn and a mama deer and her two beautiful little fawns munching the grass.

We had a great time!

Thank you!

Nice home

  • 5 of 5

This home worked really well for 2 couples since the bedrooms were both upstairs and downstairs. There was a third bedroom also. The kitchen was well equipped. The backyard is beautiful.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the sweet review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the gardens. You know at one pointMockingbird Cottage had the second best garden in all of Ithaca....It was before we owned it. Anyway, we thank you for being lovely guests, and hope you come back to visit again! Warm Regards, Suzanne and Tim

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Mockingbird Cottage was a perfect place to stay! It was quiet, cozy, clean and a great location to tour the Finger Lakes. Ithaca was close for dining out and the landlords were very accommodating. Would definitely stay there again!

Wishing we knew about this before!

  • 5 of 5

Our visit to Mockingbird Cottage in Ithaca NY was extremely comfortable. We loved the location in proximity to Ithaca College. We were there for graduation, allowing us to travel easily between IC and MC! The cottage was well stocked with the comforts of home. The sunrise view from the master bedroom was beautiful each morning. I wish we had found this earlier in my son's years at IC! If we find ourselves back in the area, we will definitely book our stay at MC!

Nice Cozy cottage

  • 4 of 5

Very nice cozy cottage close to Cornell and the finger lakes region. Surprisingly spacious inside, it was very comfortable for our family of four and our medium size dog. About 10 minutes drive from a ton of choices for food at Ithaca commons, Wegmans and other stores close by for groceries and other needs. Well appointed, comfortable beds and furniture, good working wifi.

Certainly would recommend for folks visiting this area.

Spacious, tasteful and comfortable !

  • 5 of 5

We rented Mockingbird Cottage with another couples for 4 nights in July. It was the perfect place to hang out with good friends, cook, eat in the garden and enjoy our time together.

The cottage was tastefully decorated, peaceful and allowed plenty of room to have time alone if you needed it.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us...we will be back !!!

A refreshing weekend with friends !

  • 4 of 5

The mockingbird cottage turned out to be a perfect vacation home for our recent stay in Ithaca.

The cottage is comfortably located in the heart of Ithaca city, yet calm, refreshing and away from the city center hustle. The 24 hr grocery store, a pharmacy, and Dunkin donuts are just over a mile from the cottage and are super convenient during the stay.

The cottage itself is very charming, very well furnished, stocked with all basic amenities, loaded with games, books and dvds. The big backyard and overall landscaping around the house, the deck all add to the essence of a peaceful cottage.

It is close to all major attractions around Ithaca, downtown and Cornell.

All in all a pleasant peaceful experience !
