Cayuga Lake House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Mockingbird Cottage is settled in the middle of the Finger Lakes Region in central New York. Our beautiful home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and sits on 1.3 acres. This house is nestled among mature trees and several meticulously maintained perennial gardens. The property has been professionally landscaped for over ten years and is gorgeous.

On the outside, this house has a fenced in back yard with a deck, Adirondack chairs and picnic table with umbrella. Eating outside on the deck in the summer is one of our favorite things to do. It’s also a great way to stay dry and watch while one of the occasional ten-minute summer storms rolls in and has it raining buckets one minute and the next not a cloud in the sky. There are extensive perennial gardens and beautiful natural stonework.

Our cottage is of moderate dimension, and though it looks small from the outside, it is rather deceiving. With eight rooms and pleasant sense of space, there are essentially three living rooms in this cottage. The first one is more cozy than spacious. The couch is a large sectional and the end chair reclines to a full lay down position. The 27-inch TV and gas fireplace are also in this room. The second living room is quite large and has sliding glass doors that go out to the deck and yard. The third living room, is the smallest of the three. It has a wood-burning fireplace, a love seat and chair. With the fireplace sitting area as the center, the downstairs also has two of the three bedrooms, a bathroom with a small shower (the upstairs bathroom is a full bath), laundry room, and separate entrance to the backyard. The downstairs feels connected, yet separate from the upstairs. In terms of space, and the way it's laid out, the cottage has a feeling of privacy for those who need it while having adequate space for a group to feel connected.

The cottage has hardwood floors, new paint and carpets, one wood-burning fireplace (with plenty of wood provided), one gas fireplace, central vacuum, washer and dryer, living room, dining room, and family room with television, DVD player and a extensive DVD library with over 300 movies. There are lots of unique built-ins throughout the house that add to its cottage-like character. The first-floor bedroom has a queen bed, built-in dresser and sliding glass doors that look out to several acres of soothing pastoral views. The entire house is beautifully furnished in Pottery Barn style and has a library of with several hundred books, including a large selection of cookbooks. Fine linens are provided, accompanied by down comforters.

The Finger Lakes Region is a beautiful area with many lakes. Our cottage is located just five miles southeast of the tip of Cayuga Lake, where you can participate in kayaking, waterskiing, sailing, power boating and water sports. Also, the cottage is about 40 minutes from Greek Peak Ski Resort, several state parks, and dozens of wineries, and just under one hour from Skaneateles Lake. For anyone considering visiting Cornell University, we are only two minutes from the Cornell Vet School, two minutes from East Hill Plaza and six minutes from Cornell’s main campus and Ithaca’s downtown Commons.

About Suzanne Loesch

We are a couple that has been together for 25 years. We love to travel and both of us have small businesses we run in town. We have a stationery store called Mockingbird Paperie and a corporate and start up consulting business. We love dogs and have five of them! we both come from large families one is Italian the other Irish... so we never argue. I (suzanne ) am from San Francisco California and When I met Tim we fell in love and he brought me back to the finger lakes region where he grew up. We have two adult daughters that are both artists and we look forward to having you at our cottage!

Suzanne Loesch purchased this house in 2006

Why Suzanne Loesch chose Cayuga Lake

We live very close by and every time we drove by we would pass this house and notice it's charm and uniqueness and the people that lived in it became our friends and landscapers. The landscaping is what blew my mind and at one point the house had won an award for best landscaped house in Ithaca, I asked the owner if she was ever to consider selling to please let us know. She did and we bought it and a year later we turned it into Mockingbird Cottage.

What makes this house unique

It's a country house that feels like it's not too far away from town.. We are minutes to Cornell and minutes to the lake and town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at Mockingbird Cottage!!!

we enjoyed the beautiful house, yard, the delicious raspberries and the amazing flowering gardens around the house!!!! WE also enjoyed the many animals in the yard, such as birds, chipmunks, adorable baby bunnies and ground hog living near the barn and a mama deer and her two beautiful little fawns munching the grass.

We had a great time!

Thank you!

Review Mockingbird Cottage 1/24/16

This is a long overdue review of this beautiful home! I am currently in the “cottage” (which feels much larger than a cottage, but has all the coziness) for the 3rd time. We originally rented it in August 2014 to bring one of our twin sons to college at Cornell, and have come back to visit several other times. This would have been our sixth visit, but the place is so great it gets booked up really fast, so be on your toes!

The house is gorgeous with beautiful art everywhere you turn, high end linens on all the beds, and whimsical antique touches throughout. The kitchen is large and fantastic to cook in with all the necessities and more. They have a brilliant cupboard filled with coffees and teas and giant mugs, which is particularly important when you get in at 9pm and there is snow everywhere! The dining room is lovely looking out on the backyard, which is a scene from Currier and Ives in the winter and a breathtaking pastoral wonderland in the summer. Old red barn!

The living room is great with a gas log stove, large couches, a bookshelf full of DVDs and another bookshelf full of books! The downstairs has its own family room with two bedrooms which is great for kids. It has a fireplace and TV (which our boys used to set up their gaming system).

The master bedroom upstairs has a delicious bed with gorgeous linens and beautiful original built-in wood closets and drawers. Waking up to the gorgeous view of the back acreage is a delight—in the fall it is lush and green, in the winter a carpet of diamond white snow.

Of course the landlords of the VRBO houses are what really make the difference between a wonderful stay and a mediocre visit and Suzanne & Tim are wonderful, responsive owners. They live just around the corner and can respond to anything you need help with right away. They are very kind and welcoming and will insure that your stay is delightful!

Great family place!

We were in Ithaca for a wedding. My brother, his wife, their daughter and her husband stayed with us. The charming home was roomy and delightfully decorated. We had everything we needed. If we had any questions the owners were nearby and kindly assisted us.

Mockingbird Cottage

The cottage was very comfortable for the 6 of us and we enjoyed sitting on the back deck in the evening. Everything we needed was there. The location was good. It was close enough to Ithaca that we could go for dinner or even order in pizza. It was also fairly close to the state parks so we could go hiking in the mornings and visit some wineries in the afternoon. The state parks are absolutely beautiful and the wineries are good and abundant.

This is a charming little cottage with a lot of personality! The owners love of books movies and birds is obvious in every room! The house is comfortable and even lacking central air was never too hot at the beginning of September. The cottage can be tricky to find in the dark, so if going out for the evening leave on the light by the street.

Wonderful, cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (3 adult couples) had the Most Delightful stay at the Mockingbird Cottage!! Our originally planned June trip had to be postponed until August / September and Suzanne could not have been more accommodating. She was such a Pleasure to work with spending time with me on the phone helping me plan my parents' 80th birthday celebration. The house is Adorable and Lovely with many nooks and crannies and very well appointed (down to the skewers for s'mores in the kitchen drawer). We loved sitting out on the deck overlooking the Beautiful grounds enjoying our coffee in the morning and our wine in the evening. It was Very Exciting for us (Floridians) to see a family of deer in the back yard! Mockingbird cottage was perfectly located for our week long visit to the finger lakes. While we were there, we went to the Ithaca farmer's market, took a boat ride around Cayuga Lake, enjoyed the Seneca Lake wine trail, ate at the Moosewood restaurant, shopped in the Ithaca Commons, discovered the Purity ice cream parlor, explored Taughannock falls, wandered through Ithaca falls, drove around the Cornell campus and plantation, swam in Buttermilk falls, picnicked at the Ithaca Beer company, and went to the Corning Museum of Glass. What a Fabulous part of the country to visit and what a Perfect place to come home to after each day's adventures!! We Loved every minute of it and all highly recommend the Mockingbird Cottage without reservation :-)!!

Mockingbird cottage

My family and I had a great experience at the mockingbird cottage! We went to New York for a wedding in Ithaca. We were so close to everything. The cottage was cozy, peaceful and had beautiful landscaping which made it nice to relax outback on the deck! The cottage made us feel like at home. It's provided with plenty of blankets, pillows, towels etc. that we didn't have to worry about traveling with all the extra stuff, which was very nice! If you want to experience the beautiful NY mountains and see the amazing water falls, the mockingbird cottage is a great place to stay!
