“Dragonfly Sanctuary - Everything I Expected and More!”

5 of 5 starsReviewed yesterday for a stay in September 2015 NEW

My husband and I planned this Sedona trip for our 25th wedding anniversary. We feel so fortunate to have found Dragonfly Sanctuary as our place to stay for this bucket list trip. The house, the property, the views!! Everything we expected and more. We loved everything about it from my first communications with Jan to the follow up I received from Devara after the trip. I loved the fact that I could hike up the steps to the Stairway to Heaven and right out into the wilderness and onto marked trails without getting into my car to drive to a spot. We definitely did other hikes, but having this right out the back door was a bonus! We are not hot tub people, but were grateful for it after a couple of days of tough hikes and a trip to the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the green swing to watch the stars and moon fade (we were early to bed and early to rise, never really getting used to time change) and took full advantage of having the kitchen, grill and all amenities. The proximity to town yet the complete private setting of this home is also a huge plus for this property. We would definitely go back if traveling to Sedona again.

Serene & visually stimulating

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Dragonfly Sanctuary & Garden. The location is great and the house is lovely. The special viewing up on the hill on the back of the property was a treat. The only complaint that I can give is that the bed in the master bedroom was lumpy and the fitted sheet was worn out and would not stay on the bed properly. We did not get a chance to try out the bed in the 2nd bedroom but we did have someone stay in the guest house and they enjoyed having their own little private area. The house is tastefully decorated as well as the property itself. We would recommend this property to our friends if they visit Sedona. The owner was quick to refund us our security deposit after our stay.

Owner's Response: Greetings and thank you so much for you review. I apologize for the lumpy mattress. The mattress is a luxury support mattress (less than 1 year old). We just purchased a new pillow top cover for it before your arrival. My Steward has just contacted me to inform me that it is making the bed lumpy and she recommends removing it. Because of it's thickness, it caused the fitted sheet(just purchased 4 weeks ago) to not fit properly. We have already contacted the company that sold it to us to make arrangements for it's return. I wish you would have mentioned this to us immediately as we would have removed the pillow top. We strive for our guests to have a wonderful experience at Dragonfly. That includes superb comfort in all bedrooms. Looking forward to having you as our guests in the future.

Dragonfly Extended Stay

  • 3 of 5

We recently spent 3 weeks at the Dragonfly. Location was excellent, layout was fine. Amenities were haphazard at best, with cooking items not being a priority here.

My biggest problem with this location was the cleanliness or lack thereof, of the property. I understand that they have a contracted maintenance company clean the property, but they do a poor job. The bed linens are very old and pilled and my wife washed everything in the master bedroom, including the comforter and it was not a pretty sight to see the dirt that came off that comforter. Bed pillows were discolored from use and not pleasant.

The second bedroom is small and not advertised as a Murphy Bed. It was comfortable, but the cleanliness issue with the sheets and comforter was equal to the MBR.

The living room section was broken, with the rods holding the section together stripped out. The couch was so dirty that we covered it totally with our own covers and tried to ignore the 30 degree lean caused by the unattached sectional. Couch was supposed to be beige, but it resembled darker browns along the cushions and seating. Dust bunnies on the ceilings and beams showed that the cleaning crew needs some additional guidance.

Outdoor seating and amenities were fine. Basic hot tub and a lovely seating area outdoors for your morning coffee amidst the splendor of Sedona.

We made do with the location but would not recommend it to friends or relatives.

The outside gate to the trail that is advertised is reached by climbing 3 flights of shale steps, that are cracking and noted "slippery when wet". Definitely not for the faint of heart of those with knee issues.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that this guest did not enjoy his stay. We are the only Guest home that offers a no charge personal Steward with 24 hour contact in the event of anything needing repair or any complaint so that we may immediately rectify it. Our cleaning company would have immediately been come back to rectify any cleaning that was not satisfactory within 1 hour of guest arrival. They have been with us for 6 years and we have never received this type of complaint or review. The downstairs bedroom although has an option for a Murphy bed, has NEVER been used as such. It is a queen size bed with luxury Postropedic mattress as indicated in our ad. All bedding sets are replaced with newly purchased bedding every 6 weeks. We do keep quilts longer than that as spares in the closets. Our couch is not beige. It is Microfiber white/grey and depending on which way you brush it, will appear darker in certain areas. Was professionally cleaned 4 weeks before this guest arrived. As for it coming apart. That actually did happen and was not reported until the day of departure. Our repair staff immediately came to the house and located the problem which was a missing screw that was sitting on the floor below the couch. It was fixed in 15 minutes. We could have rectified this too if the guest had told us before their departure date. We have an Inspection company that comes in and checks the house when the cleaning company has completed their job to make sure that everything on the checklist has been done and meets excellent standards. Beams etc were all done in the detailed cleaning before arrival. Since the house is made up of multiple glass walls, the house will get dusty if the doors are left open like this guest did. Additionally we have been advised that this guest brought 3 dogs on the property so our cleaning crew had to send 3 hours after their departure cleaning up fur everywhere. Although our contract allows us to deduct this from the guest deposit, we did not as a courtesy to them for any inconvenience they may have had because of the couch they reported as broken the day of their departure. Perhaps the dust bunny's were from their dogs-.Dust doggies. We are sorry that they didn't like their stay but in all fairness we knew nothing about these complaints. we were told everything was fine and they had a really nice time. We wish them well and hope they find a perfect place they will love next time.

A memorable stay in a truly magical place

  • 5 of 5

Having seen past reviews and Jan's great pictures, we still weren't fully prepared for the beauty of this place. It truly is a sanctuary - with beauty and artistic touches inside and out, a feeling of calm settled over us as we explored all the nooks and crannies of the multiple patios and gardens as well as the view that was nothing short of spectacular. We'd never been to Arizona, let alone, Sedona so it was just luck or fate that made us choose this place. The location was perfect, private yet close to what soon became our favorite part of Sedona. Many really great restaurants in close proximity and so easy to navigate to day trips in Jerome, Cottonwood and Old Town Historic Cottonwood, Camp Verde, village of Oak Creek and Oak Creek Canyon. Jan supplied yoga mats, I brought my own blocks and was able to do yoga in the master bedroom loft, full of windows with views of the red rocks at every turn. Every convenience was provided. There was a note regarding the garden tub in the master bath that stated they'd disconnected the jets for health concerns but that was fine as it was still lovely to soak in and relax each day, plus the hot tub was heavenly and provided views of the moon and stars when used in the evening. We saw wildlife in the valley below and even one morning, after a thunderstorm, a rainbow appeared in the valley - below us - so we were literally "over the rainbow". We stayed through 10/3 and felt so at home here. Sedona is such a beautiful gem of a place and this home is a gift. Jan was great on communication at every turn. Thank you and we hope to return.

A True Blessing

  • 5 of 5

Dragonfly is a precious jewel, and Jan's open-hearted sharing of this sacred place is a gift she shares with those of us fortunate enough to be called into Dragonfly's loving embrace during our time in Sedona.

This rental offering is so far beyond the usual.....

If you feel drawn here, know you can trust that.

My two month stay has worked it's magic, leading me to return in 2015 for three months.

I consider myself very fortunate to be able to steep myself in Dragonfly's nurturing energy and I am so very grateful for Jan's warm welcome.

Thank You Jan !

Dragonfly is absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

It is no surprise this place was selected for Sweet Retreats. The views are second to none. The Zen gardens are thriving and beautiful. Sitting on the back patio next to the waterfall in the backyard was heavenly, and the service and personal attention given to us made sure we had a great time. Our stay was so much more than expected. An incredible energy is present on this property and it is very private, noise free and very romantic. Even though it is high on a hill it is still very close to everything, Wish I could live her year round. Also, for anyone who wants a pool, there is a beautiful year round heated salt water pool that is within walking distance and it is very inexpensive for a grounds pass daily, weekly or monthly. Hands down, the best Vacation Rental Home in Sedona. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. We will be back for sure next year. Thank you Jan and Devora for a wonderful stay.
