Point Venture Retreat is a vacation rental property located on Lake Travis, in Point Venture, Texas, 20 miles west of Austin, in the Heart of the Texas Hill Country.

Our renovated and redecorated town-home (new kitchen, beds, counter tops, Spanish tile, bamboo floors, and tiled showers) has two bedrooms, a loft, two full baths and 350 square feet of decks on 2 levels. It can sleep 8 with all the comforts of home. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, the downstairs bedroom has a queen, and the loft has a queen size futon. There is also a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the living room.

From Point Venture Retreat you will have private access to the lake with your own swim dock, and will enjoy beautiful views of the lake while relaxing on the 2 levels of decks. The wood burning fireplace is a welcome attraction during the colder, winter months. Private driveway parking is provided for up to 4 vehicles and/or boat trailers.

Marina and Floating Restaurant: The Point Venture Marina, located at the mouth of our cove, provides a fuel dock, a store, and The Gnarly Gar (formerly Shades Cafe) floating restaurant. There are watercraft rentals located up the lake in Lago Vista. The Gnarly restaurant is open year round.

house didn't quite accommodate as promised

First of all we were told we could check in anytime we wanted then when I called, texted and emailed the owner, Andrea, she would not respond, as we needed the access code to get inside. This was for a bride and 5 maids. I finally reached her husband around 2:30 and he gave me the code to get in. Also, the accommodations were alittle tight as far as sleeping arrangements go since the loft has a staircase that is almost completely vertical and only a young person could get up there. All in all, it was an ok place but I don't think I would use it again.

Owner's Response: Wow. This is surprising to hear. After all of the extra things I did to try to accommodate your wedding party that were well beyond a normal rental. I spent a lot of time talking to your wedding consultant trying to reserve the clubhouse for you only to find out after all of my time that your wedding party already had it reserved through someone else. You said in your email (that you sent around 9am) that you forgot the information that we sent you (electronically by the way) at home. As a teacher, I can not respond to email right away. Yes, we did allow you to check in any time that day, which is not the norm. My husband tried to call you several times and there was no answer. The description of the home is complete on Homeaway, and there are many pictures of the home. Your wedding party was very disorganized and the communication was very, very poor. I am proud of the way I handled your situation and felt I did a lot to try to make your wedding weekend special. It's too bad you see it in a different way.

Great Stay

We had a great time staying at your Point Venture place for the month of February. The weather was great and the lake was full. We are from the Midwest and really enjoyed being able to sit on the deck overlooking the lake. We used the grill quite often. Having a 9 hole golf course was especially nice for me as I used it quite often. The Simpson's would always keep in touch by email whenever I had a question or concern. The front light was not working during our stay but they ordered a new one so that should not be a problem for future guests.

Nice Property with good amenities

We stayed at this property for 2 nights and overall impression was good. This is very close to golf range and easy access to lake. The property is well maintained except for few minor stuff.

Owners need to get involved.

I was very excited when we rented this house unfortunately that excitement left as soon as we arrived. We had a number of issues that I feel must be addressed. When we arrived the house was dark, although the front porch light is on a sensor it was not on and it was not working. The front porch was filthy. You could not sit out there and enjoy it. The table was dirty and roof debris was all over the porch. Once we walked in the house it was 90 degrees. The owner did not turn on the air despite the fact that the owners control the thermostat at their home. The air condition does not work properly and therefore the house was hot the entire weekend. Although the thermostat read 69, the house was 77. The ceiling fan in the living room has one speed. Slow. The "sofa bed" is no usable. The mattress is so worn the springs are felt immediately as you pull it out and sit down. Due to the poorly maintained air conditioner the "loft" never cooled down enough to be usable. Even if it would have, the mattress they have is not adequate for adults. The advertising states this house sleeps 8, 4 is more like it. We were a party of six and two of us had to sleep in a hotel due to poor air conditioning and lack of adequate useable room as advertised. The bedroom on the first floor has a closet door that never opened. The television worked but the satellite never connected to the television. Therefore it was of no use unless you wanted to stare at a blank screen. The kitchen towels are stained. The owners request that you clean before you leave, the place needs to be clean before someone arrives. The cove has been dry for several years, the walkway that use to lead to the cove is over grown and not walkable as described in the picture. One thing is true, you get what you pay for. Lesson learned. Never would I recommend this to anyone. I did brig these issues to the attention of the owner. At first they did not answer and later responded via text. I requested they send someone to address these issues and they ignored my request. Later in the day they sent a text apologizing for any issues that we may have had. That was it, no attempt to resolve it or offer us a refund or asking us if we wanted to leave with a refund.

Owner's Response: While we did make every attempt to address your concerns some of the issues mentioned could not be reproduced. • I personally went to the house the week after your stay and found no issues with using the TV in the master bedroom • The AC was working as well, and we could find no issues with it cooling the house. None of our other guests before or since have had issues with the temperature of the home. We do apologize for not having the home cooled off prior to your arrival as this is our normal procedure. A major hail storm hammered all the houses in the Point Venture late this summer and did make a considerable mess while destroying roofs, siding, paint and windows. Maintenance did clean up as much as possible but the roofing company was not as through as they should have been. We called them back to properly clean up, and it has been done. The cove we are on has been dry for some time while Central Texas has suffered the longest drought in many years. We let all renters know of this condition in our initial response letter prior to booking. Fortunately, significant rains this year have brought the lake levels back to their former glory and the dock is floating again. Our home does sleep a maximum of eight and the listing does indicate that 2 of these are on a queen sized pull out couch and 2 are in the loft on a queen sized futon. On your recommendation we have replaced the mattress on the pull out couch.

Lake Travis is a beautiful lake with 44,000 acres of cool, clean and clear water. The climate is considered to be one of the nation's healthiest, with 300 or more days of sunshine each year and the clean air of the Texas Hill Country. There is plenty of room for boating and water sports plus many coves where you can swim and relax.

There are many activities to choose from in the gated subdivision of Point Venture. The Point Venture nine hole golf course located a block away was given an 'A' rating by , and features a practice putting green, driving range, pro shop, and cart rental.

Other activities located a short walk away include:

-Jr. Olympic sized pool overlooking the lake

-six laykold tennis courts (four are lighted)

-workout room and

-a private 50 acre waterfront park with two boat ramps, gated children's play-scape, picnic tables and a pavilion.

The boat ramps have plenty of parking space and rarely do you have to wait to launch your boat.
