Description

Ardendrain Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

A Large House Set In 22 Acres Of Land, Used For Horses.

The house is in a great location for visiting the Highlands, with easy access in all directions. The west coast, for Skye and the west coast scenery, Aviemore and the Cairngorms and the vast beaches of the Moray Coast can all be reached in a little over one hour. Closer to hand are The Culloden Battlefield and The Black Isle with its small coastal villages such as Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Cromarty. Fortrose is well known for dolphin spotting.

Sleeps 4. 2 bedroom farmhouse. Please note that we do not accept bookings for parties with young children - ADULTS & TEENS ONLY. Because we have a farm and large horses we make no exceptions about bookings for children. Safe, not sorry! There are several risks for young children.

PLEASE NOTE: the availability calendar is always up to date!

Set in the owners 22 acres with their house nearby. Most of our land is used for horses but we have no horses for the public to ride, they are all someone's pet! Quite often the farrier can be seen shoeing the horses and you can watch Cath practising dressage occasionally. Trekking & riding lessons are available in Drumnadrochit, 7 miles. We have much wildlife here, many badgers – a neighbour who feeds and photographs them had nine badgers visit one night - and foxes, hares, pine martens, red kites, buzzards, woodpeckers, sparrow hawks and many other birds are seen occasionally.

The house is very quiet, being down a long drive off a country lane, all you can hear at night are the owls. There are six other well spaced houses in the hamlet and the owner's house is nearby. The nearest sizeable village is Beauly, which has several places to eat, a post office, hardware shop, pharmacy, two small supermarkets, Indian & Chinese takeaways and two cafes and on Thursday evenings in summer there's a pipe band and Highland dancing in the village square. The 'Old School' has a nice gift shop and a cafe at the rear. The Priory Hotel in the square serves two course lunches for about £8 and good evening meals.

The City of Inverness has good facilities, a large theatre and cinema complex, swimming pool, harbour, a 'Vue' cinema complex and many supermarkets & shops, plus the Caledonian Canal which leads to Loch Ness, has a marina and an impressive 'stair' of locks.

There are two large forests close by and the local roads make pleasant walking or cycling with little traffic. Mountain bikers and walkers have many forests to choose from, as well as the Caledonian Canal towpath and the Great Glen Way; our lane is on the Great Glen Cycle Route. There are many activities in the area apart from sightseeing - walking groups, archaeology groups, skiing in season, fishing, ceilidhs & music – the Tartan Heart Music Festival is held 3 miles away (just out of earshot) and there are several castles and NT properties such as Brodie Castle, Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness and Dunrobin Castle in Sutherland is just over an hour away.

We have lived here since 1991 and can suggest many trips and activities to keep you entertained. The spectacular Glen Affric is 35 minutes west by car. The Orkney Islands can be visited in one day but means an early start and late back. A coach meets the ferry and visits the main archaeological sites, of which there are many.

Although the house is large, only half of it is available for guests, the other rooms are not used and are empty. We provide comprehensive driving directions by email, as well as a map.

About Cath Hill-Freeman & Eddie Freeman

We are retired, Eddie was a Fire/Safety Officer with BP and Cath worked in the motor trade some years ago and has a small business as an artist specialising in animal portraits.

Our main holidays are taken skiing in Switzerland and when possible we go to France in the summer or out of season.

Cath Hill-Freeman & Eddie Freeman purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Cath Hill-Freeman & Eddie Freeman chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

Peaceful and in the heart of the Scottish countryside. Easy access to Inverness, land for our horses.

What makes this farmhouse unique

One of our neighbour's is a noted wildlife and landscape photographer. He has made available these web sites of photos taken not only in the glen, but all over the world.

He has a soft spot for badgers, which go through our land to get to his for their evening feed! The badger photos on the web sites will have been taken here. Nick has flown with several air forces, often doing photographic work, and there are some cracking photos of aircraft included. Enjoy!

Please take a look.

Superb property in a beautiful natural environment

  • 5 of 5

We were completely happy with the property, which is very conviniently located to Inverness Airport. We had a very enjoyable 1 week holiday in the Highlands.

The Freeman family - Ed and Cathie - were very caring and friendly hosts.

The horses were a big bonus, since both my daughters are horse-lovers.

Beautiful home in a quiet, picturesque setting!

  • 5 of 5

Our three night stay at Dularich was far too short! The house is like a home away from home. Our hosts Eddie and Cath are lovely people, they were willing to share their knowledge of the area, what to go and see and where to avoid. Cath has two horses: Crumble who she trained from a colt and Lois who was rescued, beautiful animals. There are also two delightful young cats.

The house has two ensuite bedrooms, absolutely complete kitchen, dining room, livingroom, washer - all in new condition and spotlessly clean.

We would return tomorrow if we could and would recommend Dularich to friends and family.

Lovely rural retreat

  • 4 of 5

A fantastic homely property surrounded by fields and mountains. Eddie and Cath were both welcoming and very helpful. It was obvious they wanted our stay to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The property has everything you need and is very much home from home. It was great listening to the dawn chorus from the pheasants. It really is a great place to get away from it all. If you want to venture further afield we found it easy to get to Skye and John O' Groats from here. Whilst the hosts are wonderful and very discreet, we did find that being situated within a working stables we didn't have quite the privacy and seclusion we have had at other properties.

Schönes Haus in grüner Umgebung mit sehr netten Vermietern

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Translation of Review by Google: It was a very nice stay in a house that is located in a peaceful country setting. The facilities were as stated in the description and there was nothing to complain about. The owners were very nice and always willing to offer tips for excursions, visits, events to support. The location was ideal to make from trips to different places in the Highlands (Skye, Inverness, Black Isle). You could also do well right from the house walking or hiking through great scenery. Our response: It was lovely to meet you and we are so glad you enjoyed yourselves.
