This is a '5,500 ft2' villa with a nice and relaxing tropical flavor, with many coconut trees where you may reach for a coconut and enjoy a cool 'coco tonic', or have a siesta (nap) in a hammock at the palapa terrace feeling the sea breeze and maybe watching some dolphins passing by (very often). The beach front swimming pool is just outside the terrace and a few short steps down, will take you to the beach. This is the villa layout: 1st floor: kitchen, dining and living room, front and rear terrace (one w/palapa), full bathroom. Bedroom #1 w/2 twin size bed, a/c (optional surcharge), ceiling fan, hammock, balcony with hammock and a full bathroom. Bedroom #2 w/2 twin size bed, a/c (optional surcharge), ceiling fan, and full bathroom. 2nd floor: master suite w/king size bed, *a/c (optional surcharge), ceiling fan, hammock, TV, DVD, alarm clock, full bathroom, balcony palapa with hammock.
Married with 4 daughters and 4 grand children.
I am from Merida, I have always lived here and my whole family also.
Maria Camara purchased this house in 2000
We built this house to spend the summer with my family and friends.
I love the whole house, but relaxing at the palapa is the best place for me.
Our first time to this area of Mexico, the people are friendlier and very helpful. The owner of this property speaks and comprehends English and lives 30 minutes from her Summer Beach House. We had seen the 2 year old pictures and it is better in person than those pictures. This is a lived in home that they vacate 9 months of the year as they live in Merida and husband works every day. They have a beautiful family and are very strong in their family values. Maria(owner) and I have had 50 emails and still stay in contact, she is wonderful. There really is 5000 + square feet, the living room is 30x30 feet. pass thru kitchen, pantry. Some days we would see 2 or 3 people all day walking the beach. Very isolated but if that is what you like, then this is for you. The bedrooms are great also huge. Master Suite is up its private staircase with its own private Palapa. The 30 foot glass door wall looks out into Gulf of Mexico and is sheltered by a 25 foot high Palapa covered patio leading to a huge sun deck with a pool. There is a pool service and gardener. You can have maid service for $20 a day and also a cook for an authentic meal or teo or three if you want for $25. It is fully furnished with seating on the couch for 10 with extra chairs, the dining set is beautiful with table and 10 chairs. The wall displays are all Maria's and she has that eye for design so they are beautiful and illuminate at night just like outside by a flick of a switch tree's can be lit up throughout the yard and front entrance way, which is private from the road with a gate. You think you have gone to heaven here. It is bottled water but TP is flushable so we were very happy about that. You will find the closest restaurant to be 4 miles (Technotel), really good food with English/Spanish menu and drinks. Then 9 miles the other way there are several nice restaurants. You will find groceries and restaurants are far cheaper than they are in Cancun, Cabo area's. The very first morning walking the beach was sand and full of shells, like tons of them had formed a wall from the tide, more than Sanibel Island in Florida. YOU HAVE TO BOOK THIS PLACE if you want to relax and enjoy yourself. Internet wi-fi never quit and has two main servers allowing 3 of us time to contact friends and family who could not make this trip.
We stayed at Maria's house for 2 weeks in January and had the very best time. The house is beautiful, the outdoor patio area awesome, just as pictured with a beautiful view to water. Enjoyed watching pelicans swoop down to catch fish, went kayaking, many corona's, reading books, taking a nap, etc. Pretty much lived outside. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, and Maria has all kinds of starter things there, crackers, cookies, milk, etc, and a large 5 gallon of purified water which is necessary since the water is not potable. No dishwasher, but no problem. It was very hot for a few days, and Maria was very kind and brought by some area fans. There is AC available for an extra charge, but the weather for the rest of our stay was very pleasant, so just used the fans for the few hot days. I needed a light jacket at night most days. There was a huge storm while there which pushed up alot of seaweed onto beach, but we just stepped thru and could walk out into very nice, warm, clear water. Took many day trips while there, do not miss Uxmal! Progreso is 10 minutes away, very touristy and fun in that regard. The historic/tourist section of Merida has lovely old architecture and wonderful restaurants. Felt very safe and welcome by locals everywhere we went. The road system is amazing compared to other countries we have been to. Thanks again Maria. We will be back!
Really felt like you were in your own home at the beach +++
My friends and I rented this house for a week. We loved it, and knew instantly that we had made an excellent decision renting this house. Before we got there, Maria gave us excellent directions, information on the house, and was super pleasant to work with. Upon arrival, we found the house to be just as described: the pool was spotless, the beach was right there, and the house was clean, open, and very inviting. It was obvious that this is someone's house, not just a shell of a house only used for rentals. There are piles of beautiful seashells and artwork all over. Don Lupe, the groundskeeper, was a delight, and a highlight was him cracking open coconuts for us one day. There was tons of room for us to spread out, relax, and do nothing, which is exactly what we did for the first three or four days of our stay.
The nearest town, Progreso, is laid back and not touristy (except for the occasional cruise ship that stops in town, but those folks are gone in a matter of hours). The malecon makes for nice strolling along the beach. There are great seafood restaurants, a nice grocery store, and an awesome market. We tried to get up early to hit the market for fresh fish, vegetables, flowers, etc. Being able to cook at the house was a definite plus, and the kitchen had everything we needed.
The house is also close enough for other explorations. We hit a few Mayan ruins, cenotes, and Merida. Merida is a wonderful city and worth a visit or two. In fact, after our week at the house, we stayed in Merida for a couple of nights.
After our trip, Maria was prompt in returning our deposit; my only regret is that I wasn't able to meet her during our vacation.
