Bellissima vacanza

  • 5 of 5

A great experience eight

How can I describe a dream?!

We stayed in Siracusa for two weeks and we really enjoyed our stay in the Villa. Everything was perfect!

The house is beutifully decorated and equipped with all the comforts.

There were eight people and the space was enought for everyone. The house has really spacious and bright bedrooms; there are many bathrooms, each one very clean; there are also two big sitting rooms and a large kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine.

Outside there's a big garden, with a wonderful view of the sea and of the city.

The Villa also is in a great location: it's twenty metres from the sea and ten minutes from the historical centre of the city.

The person who received us was really kind and helpful.

I must say it was a great holiday!

Lovely large villa with a great view

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from 2 fantastic weeks in Sicily. The apartment was excellent. There were 7 of us, and we had more than enough space-the apartment is really large. There's a lovely big private garden that leads to a little ledge at the water where you can swim, snorkel or fish. The garden had plenty seats and sun loungers and an outdoor shower. The seating area just outside is really pleasant, and a lovely space to sit and relax. There is a spectacular view of the sea and of the city across the way. Inside the house, the bedrooms are spacious and there are lots of (email hidden)enty space for us. 4 out of the 5 rooms have air conditioning. (Important as it was very warm at night-even in October). For the other room we used a fan at night. 4 out of the 5 rooms also open out onto the terrace and have lovely sea views. There are TVs in 3 or 4 of the bedrooms! There's two sitting rooms, both with large TVs and one even has an electric keyboard/piano. The kitchen has a great gas cooker and an oven as well as a large fridge. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine -very convenient. There's loads and loads of dishes and glasses-more than you'd ever need. There is also wifi. The location of the house is excellent-it's about 5-10 mins in the car into the centre of Siracusa and Ortygia. Even in October, Ortygia was bustling and there were tonnes of places to eat and drink. You'd definitely need a car, as it's not easy to walk (no footpaths). There are a couple of restaurants about a km away-and one just across the street from the apartment. Aranella beach his only ten mins away...it was lovely there! Edoardo the host was extremely helpful throughout our stay. I would definitely recommend this apartment for a family or large group

Plemmirio Nature Reserve

A paradisiac oasi deeply desired by the citizen of Siracusa

Vegetation and flora

The flora, typical of a subtropical arid climate, is characterized by a vegetation alofilo, able to withstand salt and sea spray as in the case of 'arbusto salicornia glauca', and the garrigue in dwarf palm that is extended for almost a mile square, and only in very few other areas of the Mediterranean you can see such a concentration of them.

Fauna

The fauna is rich in sponges, cnidarians, marine worms, crustaceans, mollusks, and fish echidormi. Among the sponges in Plemmirio we remember the encrusting sponge, sponge red, the Petrosia ficiformis and sponge Carnaccia. There are many crustaceans: lobster, shrimp, mechanical, lobster, Bernard the Hermit, and the magnosella magnosa. Among echinoderms, it might be mentioned the red sea star, the star snake, martasteria and sea cucumber.

Etymology

Syracuse has 123,248 inhabitants and is the capital of the province. Called by Cicero the largest and most beautiful of all the Greek cities, the home of Archimedes was included in 2005 in the World Heritage List assiemme the Necropolis of Pantalica. The name derives from the term Syracuse Syraka (plenty of water), for the presence of rich sources. Founded by the Greeks in 734 BC became in a few years the Pentapolis as the original core - the Isle of Ortigia - joined four other districts: Akradina, Tyche, Neapolis and Epipoli.

Crossroads of civilizations, Syracuse evidenced by the succession of peoples who have left their mark by making significant Greek city a metaphor for the passage of the centuries. The barbarian invasions by the Romans, the Byzantines and then the Arabs, Normans, Swabians, the Angevins, the Aragonese and the Spanish, and then, finally, to the Bourbon monarchs, more than a thousand years of domination is beautifully photographed, with an admixture magic of Baroque buildings, museums, squares and streets of a city that resonates with history and tradition.

Typical products

A tradition that has been handed down in the name of modernity, with the help of techniques and sophisticated machinery, the typical crops of the identity of Syracuse.

Among the most appreciated citrus and vegetable crops, as well as products greenhouses, and wine production. The Lemon of Syracuse also called 'femminello', is a variety of citrus cultivated in a large area of ??the district. The production limonicola provincial covers a quarter of the national and has been awarded the IGP.

Syracuse boasts a DOC wine: Moscato, a white reflections ambracei that occurs only in the municipal area of ??the city from Moscato Bianco grapes underwent a light drying.

Gastronomy

In Syracuse you can taste many specialties prepared with ingredients from the area. As main courses you can choose from pasta recipes with fresh tuna or other species of fish, or macaroni flavored with pine nuts, walnuts, olives or toasted breadcrumbs in a pan. The sauce for pasta is strictly based on the tasty tomatoes from Pachino (IGP). Dish of Syracuse are the breasts While tuna from ZA Cicca, a dish made with tuna, cheese, bread crumbs, garlic, parsley, eggs and cloves. Other dishes are tuna sausage tuna and tuna stew with onions and peppers.

Handicraft

Speaking of crafts, memory takes us back to ancient crafts and the materials used, which by their specificity, have characterized the simple life of the time, and some we have, again, memory, as passed down from generation to generation.

The most typical, it is worth mentioning, craftsmen employing products of the soil, such as clay, which was used to produce pans, dishes, tableware, containers for food, tiles for the roofs and more.

Even today, nell'altopiano ibleo, it is possible to see many examples of transformation of clay, painted with the traditional technique of working with the lathe foot, with which the modeled. In fact, after removing the clay from the quarries of Lentini and Siracusa, this was the first kneaded and crushed, for hours, barefoot and then be shaped, in different forms, creating, containers for storing oil, wine, food salted or in oil, water jugs, oil lamps and whatever was needed.

The timber was also used for the production of cutlery and kitchen utensils, barrels for wine, furniture and furnishings for the home, and manual or animal drawn carts.
