Excellent property. Very quiet and relaxing and wonderful views. Good location, 15 minutes from airport and close to Santa Cruz. Definitely need a car. Unless an expert using manual transmission, make sure you get a small automatic transmission car. Roads are steep and narrow in surrounding area.
Lovely villa, okay location, great island!
The villa itself is well appointed, the heating was a godsend as the weather was not great. We did not use the pool or the outside area at all really due to the weather, but it all looked well maintained.
The owner had changed internet provider so we were without WiFi for most of the week which was a bit disappointing, once installed and working it was a good speed.
The location was ok, some great views across the island and to the airport but per some of the other comments just a bit disappointing that there is still nowhere to eat out in the village, there are a few bars and a very well appointed Spar.
Gloria is really helpful and looked after us whilst we were there, she answered any questions we had really quickly and her support getting the WiFi sorted was greatly appreciated.
Very peaceful location. House very comfortable & all that you could want or need.
The house is set up high so the views are to die for. It's away from other properties so very private. The village of Mazo is a walkaway, uphill mind you. The house itself is very comfortable & cosy. A real home from home. If you are looking for a relaxing, get away from it break then this is the perfect place for you.
La Palma is an undiscovered jewel. If you like nature, walking, authentic Canarian way of life then this is the island for you. Shush keep it amongst us. Enjoy.
Pretty spot in Villa de Mazo
The property is well maintained and a really good size for two people. The view over the east coast is wonderful, and on clear days we could see Tenerife and La Gomera. As the weather was not so hot, we had the pool heated, and it was worth every euro. I don't think we would have used it cold. We didn't use the outside BBQ (set into a cave) either.
The only thing that disappointed us was that there was nowhere nice to eat in Mazo: Surprising for the size of the village. We had to drive to a restaurant every night - or cook at home. But I was able to walk to the 12.00 Mass in the 15th century church on Sunday, which was a bonus.
We walked and walked on the island - which is why we had returned to La Palma - the walks are great, and it was lovely to be able to walk straight from the villa. It was downhill all the way back.
The roads to the villa really take some getting used to - as other visitors have commented, they don't come much steeper or narrower anywhere on the island.
We liked Mazo and La Palma so much, we will definitely be returning for another holiday. Kathy and Bob
A Hidden Gem of a Place, Wonderful Views and a Feeling of Privacy
When we arrived at Las Palmeras (the name of the bungalow), we were very impressed with the whole place. It was immaculately clean throughout with plenty of towels for the bathroom and pool for the week. The airport was only a short journey away (about 10-15 minutes) and meeting Gloria outside the Spar shop in Mazo was much easier than trying to locate the property on our own. The roads leading to the house were very steep and narrow and we would certainly recommend not having a big vehicle. Initially we were a little worried about driving, but soon got used to the hilly environment in rural La Palma.
The layout of the property is really well thought out. There are plenty of areas of sunshine and shade when you needed it. Fully equipped with all the items you could possibly need in the kitchen, the lounge and in the gardens. There were fixed sun loungers, portable ones and chairs and a table, as well as another area to eat at beside the barbecue and laundry room. There are herbs and oils in the kitchen for use, guide books and some reading books in the lounge as well as satellite TV with plenty of free movies in English, as long as you changed the language on them to English. Note, the kettle provided tripped the electric, but we used the microwave to boil water for cups of tea!
The automatic gate gave a feeling of security and having the wooden window blinds were great for keeping the sun out on hot days. There are doors that open onto the pool area and two double doors that open onto the front terrace, one set from the lounge and the other from the kitchen area.
A little tip for you, the pool is advertised as heated and we did specifically ask about this before travelling. It had been an oversight that the pool heater had not been put on and when we asked about it we were told it would be extra cost. Once I have shown emails between myself and the owner, the pool heater was switched on and heated within 24 hours, without extra charge. This made the trip absolutely fabulous as the little pool was lovely and we used it twice a day. I was grateful at how quickly the owners responded to resolve this, so we only lost 3 days of use in total.
La Palma is probably the last of the Canaries not to have been spoilt commercially; it really is like being in old style Spain. The people were welcoming and friendly; prices for food were much cheaper than in England and the Spar shop had a good selection of groceries.
The perfect hideaway
We absolutely loved our stay here. The cottage is perfectly formed, beautiful and comfortable inside, with wonderful private space outside. We loved sitting on the terrace looking at the stunning view, that very much lives up to the pictures.
Finding the place was interesting! As someone else says, don't follow the instructions on your sat nav, we almost ended up in someone's front garden! But, in the end we found it okay (you need to go into Mazo and out again, rather than come up the hill to it) and Gloria was on hand to help explain everything. We loved Mazo too, which is about a 5/10 min walk, and not just for the invaluable Spar, but it's a lovely Spanish town with plenty to see and wander around.
It is close to the airport, but don't let that put you off. The planes aren't that frequent or noisy and we in fact found it fascinating watching them come in and out. We didn't use the pool in the end, but we did use the barbecue several times and loved the little out building that houses it.
All in all, we had a fantastic, relaxing stay here away from it all. We explored the island most days by car (roads are steep and windy, but mostly very good), and fell in love with the stunning scenery. What a wonderful place to visit.
In an idyllic location in the hills of Mazo is this lovely stone. Surrounded by palm trees and away from the bustle of the world; promises a very pleasant and quiet. Enjoy the views from the large terrace with swimming pool, comfortable chairs and barbecue typical Spanish.
The elevation of the house allows a stunning view on Deck to Santa Cruz, the capital of the Isla Bonita, and the amplitude of the Atlantic.
A short distance from the house there is a magnificent black sand beach, Los Cancajos, with areas of restaurants and bars.
From the same home we can start different trails for trekking. We can also access the people walking in 5 minutes, where there is a market on weekends, with a wide variety of local and organic food.
The capital of the island is a 15 minute drive home.
On the island of La Palma you can make different excursions to national parks.
