About Mariano Vega, Jr.

I am a City guy, born in the rainforest of Puerto Rico and I enjoy the outdoors. Weeping Willow provided an opportunity to restore a Queen Anne Victorian to modern standards, while addressing the Secretary of Interior Historic Preservation guidelines and creating a wonderful vacation home for my family and my grandkids.

Mariano Vega, Jr. purchased this house in 2005

Why Mariano Vega, Jr. chose Catskills

I have been skiing the Catskills Mountains for over 50 years and after my daughter graduated from college, we finally purchased a vacation home for our family use, in anticipation of our grandchildren. Weeping Willow is a very large historic Queen Anne Victorian which has been meticulously restored and designed for comfort and modern conveniences. It is well suited for family reunions, large group gatherings corporate retreats and weddings.

What makes this house unique

As a former Bed and Breakfast, Weeping Willow is very large and ideal large families and for multiple family gatherings, reunion, weddings with the modern comforts in a getaway setting. The side yard is large for weddings, reunion and for the kids to play and directly across the street is the Village Park and down the street is the Village pool. The Village Park has great tennis courts, soccer fields, children's playground and a community garden.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Eleven of us had a great time here learning about this God who loves. This God who can relate to the unfairness of the world because he died unfairly, and a God who doesn't care about what we deserve, because we don't get what we deserve, we get grace, forgiveness and love.

It has been a great house with weekend hike on the Haines Trail, BBQ and fellowship.

Our Second Stay

  • 5 of 5

I booked the Weeping Willow for a second time for our yearly Belleayre Ski trip. There is plenty of room to spread out for many families to share. We have several teen boys and the attic space is perfect for them. The house is a good value and has all the pots, pans etc that you need to cook all meals in house. This is convenient as there are no restaurants within winter walking distance or that can properly accommodate a large crowd. This is fine for us because we would all rather pitch in and cook together and have a good drink and not have to drive anywhere after skiing. It is so much better to just hang out with good friends and good wine! We were also able to bring our dogs and that was a nice plus. The Owner is very easy to get in touch with and we plan to rent it again next year.

Weeping Willow Outing

  • 3 of 5

Our short three days rental staying at the Weeping Willow home were barely acceptable. The home is nicely kept from the original style, we expect the interior finish can be more modernized for the cost of rental we booked.

There are good and bad experiences we had staying at Weeping Willow. The internet was the major issue for us since phone service was not usable and we are depends on the internet service, password provided was not working, no service from the beginning, we end up contact Verizon ourselves to get it straight up. Laundry room downstairs, piles of dirty sheets and towels on the top of machine, its impossible for us to use the washer or dryer. The other side of basement is under construction, area is bare with grovel, bricks etc, all unprotected.

Two gas grills in the back yard, both tanks provided were almost depleted, we barely make it for one meal, though the owner is did offer us to buy locally and promise to reimburse, we give up after tanks were emptied, it too inconvenience for us. There are so many unnecessary antique furniture in the house, especially the room I was staying at, has two large dressers, a baby crib, and a full size bed in less than 10x10 room makes impossible to move around. All shades are rather too shady, a suggestion for the owner maybe change it to white sheer curtain, it would be nice to bring in some of the natural light. All rooms are rather very depressing to stay in.

The kitchen is nicely renovated, modern as we expected, the attic has 5 twin beds and extra space for sleeping bags, our kids were all happy play and sleep all on the same floor. Access to the attic can be very tricky, watch out for the head injury. Living room area has entertainment system are nicely set up. There is a large open grass field directly across from the home, and tennis court were great feature for our staying. Too bad there isn't a basketball court. The community swimming pool were under construction during our stay, its a con as well.

Overall, very friendly home owner, but hard to reach since this place is too remotely. Home is rather old fashion, look and smell old, definitely need update, rooms are crowd because of the extra furniture, great location for outdoor fun, definitely kids friendly.

Owner's Response: Weeping Williw is a Historic Queen Anne Victorian, circa 1899 well represented by all the pictures and video available on the website. There is major restoration going on in the subbasement, which is off limits to the guest. The other three floors are filled with period antiques that reflect the era of the home. All windows have elegent curtains with block out shades to make the viewing of the HDTV easier. As a large home, we provide a crib for parents with young children and the attic was designed for children to enjoy. The kitchen is a high end Professional Viking kitchen for the chef within us. The wifi in the Catskill Mountains is a slow DSL, with patience the system works and cell phone service works best if one uses Verizon. VIEW THE VIDEO of the inside of the house, it truly reflects the historic nature Eastlake period.

Cozy, clean, ample space at a great price

  • 5 of 5

My family and I, very much enjoyed our recent stay at Weeping Willow. It was like we had all the amenities that we enjoy back home, from books, to board games, cards, TV... with plenty of comfort and hospitality. The location is also great because it's so close to Belleayre Ski Center and other area attractions.

Perfect place for a large family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay in this large restored home. The kitchen was very well equipped, absolutely everything you need to prepared any type of meal. Loved the back deck with the fire pit and plenty of seating. Easy to find, across the street from a large park walking distance to a local restaurant that offered a nice variety of sandwiches, pizza and dinners. The house was clean with lots of room to spread out.

PERFECT AUTUMNAL CATSKILLS WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5

This is not my first time staying at Weeping Willow Getaway. In fact, my family comes 2-3 times per year because it is such a wonderful home, complete with all the creature comforts of our own homes. It also fits SO MANY PEOPLE it cannot be beat in this region. Period. I could wax on and on about little details that the owner Mariano has taken care to ensure: the 100% Egyptian Cotton towels, the exquisite, airy comforters for every bed, the informal and formal plates he offers... but this review is to describe the BEST AUTUMNAL CATSKILLS WEEKEND.

October 8-9, 2016 was the "Taste of the Catskills" fair in Delhi, NY. About a half hour's drive from Fleischmanns, it passes through the hamlet of Andes (lovely, quaint) and through Delhi town center, it's own adorable and classic Catskills town. For a $10 per adult entrance fee (*kids <5 free), it showcased 15+ food vendors from the region, offered dozens of arts and crafts workshops, toys and games for children, including a small hay maze complete with flashlights and headlamps, bounce houses galore (small extra fee), free lawn games (corn hole, giant Jenga, giant Yahtzee, hula hoops, etc.) all in the splendor of the gorgeous leaves of the Catskill Mountain Region. The Farm Olympics were the BEST-- we laughed our butts off and have memories for a lifetime!

Second only to the fun we had, was knowing that we could come "home" to Weeping Willow Getaway and lounge on the back porch by the firepit with a glass of wine and grill on the state of the art smoker/barbecue grill (charcoal OR gas--your choice!). My family loves this house so much we have begun to think of it as our own. Thanks to Mariano and his family for keeping it updated, clean, and always ready for our return!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a wonderful review. I appreciate the fact that you continue to return to Weeping Willow and that you continue to observe all the things that we do to keep improving our ameneties such with the absoring 100% Egyptian cotton towels and the new comforters. I especially appreciate the detail of your experience during the Taste of Catskills. This is among my favorite things to do during the Fall Peeping Color Season. I know you have rented Weeping Willow during the summer season, but I hope you consider returning during the winter when the region is totally transformed. Best wishes.
