About David and Mary Horne

My wife and I have recently retired. We live in a small village called Littlewick Green, near Maidenhead, in Berkshire. It is the archetypal English village, with a cricket pitch, a church and a pub. We have lived there for 23 years; prior to that, we lived in Ealing, in West London. We have two children, both in their twenties. We both enjoy walking, and exploring beautiful countryside.

David and Mary Horne purchased this barn in 2014

Why David and Mary Horne chose South Hams

I first discovered Bantham and Thurlestone during a golf trip to the South Hams some 20 years ago, and immediately fell in love with it. It is designated as an 'area of outstanding natural beauty', which means that there are extremely strict regulations regarding planning permission for development. Bantham village is part of a larger estate, which is privately owned by people who are determined to ensure that the beauty of the location is maintained.

When we retired, my wife and I decided that we would like to buy a holiday home in the area. We were particularly interested in converted barns, so were delighted when one came onto the market. We immediately fell in love with the Coach House, and the beautiful, secluded and peaceful valley in which it is situated, and have taken great pleasure in restoring the property since we bought it in June.

What makes this barn unique

We would like you to share in the pleasure we have enjoyed in visiting this beautiful area, together with the house and the beautiful valley it is situated in.

Idyllic escape

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the coach house. Beautifully furnished throughout with all the mod-cons. Excellently positioned to explore all the south-hams area has to offer. Can link to public footpaths easily for local walks and bantham beach was only a short stroll away. Will definitely be returning to enjoy the property in sunnier climates!

We would thoroughly recommend The Coach House

  • 5 of 5

We were really impressed with the way in which the whole of The Coach House has been fitted out, it has a really well equipped kitchen. Its a very cosy house, even we we visited in February, with a lovely wood burner. Its a brilliant location to explore Bantham, Thurlestone, Hope Cove and Salcombe and we would thoroughly recommend it and hope to visit again.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Coach House for a few days, and we loved it. The property is gorgeous, and perfect for what we wanted. There were four adults in our party, and plenty of space for us all. The area was wonderful. A very steep dirt track to get to the property, but don't be put off-it's worth the drive down!

Thank you for the perfect place for our mini break.

Owner's Response: Thanks for a great review. I would just point out that the road down to The Coach House is tarmac (not dirt) although I agree it is quite steep!
