Overview

About the property

Compact one bedroom apartment in historic house with amazing views and antiques.

Abigail's Parlour Apartment is a surprisingly gracious, but compact, one-bedroom apartment on the first floor of Abbey House, in the very VERY centre of Bath - next to the Roman Baths themselves! It features a beautiful, high ceilinged Georgian sitting room, with original period features, tall windows and dining table and sofa. The amazing windows give an astonishing view over Abbey Green, the big tree and the ancient Crystal Palace Pub.

The bedroom has double bed, wardrobe and writing desk and has views over the cobbled street leading to the Roman Baths, just behind our building.

There is a separate kitchen, with everything you need to fix your own meal, but why stay in when Bath has so many excellent restaurants?

The bathroom has a shower over the tub.

The flat is furnished in a pretty period style and is full of perfectly chosen antiques, as befits this listed building.

However, it is the sitting room, with its two imposing windows overlooking Abbey Green and the fascinating views of the ancient square and it's giant tree that make this apartment so enchanting.

Of course it also has TV, DVD and WIFI and everything you could require, from towels to tea is provided in the flat and all of Bath will be at your doorstep - literally!

About Laura Dunlap

I am a former lead singer, a recent novelist, but I have been creating and running a holiday let business for the past 20 years to support my love of the arts!

Why Laura Dunlap chose Bath

I had already decorated 4 other flats in Abbey House and had my eye on this one, when it became available, I snapped it up because of its first floor situation, its high ceilings and tall windows. The views are amazing and it fits my profile, of tasteful historic style to a tee!

What makes this apartment unique

You will feel as though you belong in Bath - as if you were a real resident, in your own lovely flat, with astonishing views, where you can watch the 'tourists' down in the square, and when you step out your door, all that Bath has to offer, which is a lot, is just waiting outside!

Wonderful accomodations in the best location in Bath!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for cozy accomodations for two in the heart of Bath...look no further. The owner was wonderful to deal with and made it very easy to find our way to park and check in on what had to have been one of the busiest Saturdays in Bath on a summer weekend! Although small, the rooms are perfectly appointed with everything you could possibly need for an enjoyable stay. Be aware, the water pressure is weak for the shower as we had been advised upfront but perfectly understandable in such an historic building and it got the job done. The historic and ancient tree outside those glorious windows make you feel as if you are in a treehouse! There is a pub across the square which made for a little noise on Saturday night...but it also makes for a wonderful and convenient meal! We would definitely stay here again!

Cute place, ideally located.

  • 5 of 5

Laura was charming and informative when checking us in. The flat, while small, had all that we needed, and the high ceilings gave a more spacious feel. Nice Old World environment.

Charming unit

  • 3 of 5

Can not use shower, only very hot water or cold. You can take a bath in the narrow tub because you can mix the very hot with the cold water but not very convenient and after several days it got old. I did like the size and layout and the location was excellent.

Owner's Response: Oh dear, What a shame that we were having this problem with the hot water. The problem was actually caused by too much pressure coming from the Cold water - and blotting out the hot water. Getting plumbers in for small jobs like this proved to be nearly impossible and it took nearly six months to get this fixed - a pressure valve put on th cold water. But we did it! The hot and cold water now mix for a shower - but the shower is still really whimsy, which I explain to all my guests. It is an old building with no gas lines coming to it and only electric heating for hot water and so there isn't much zap in the shower. Normally, the guests forgive this because the flat is so cute - AND the location is unbeatable. Come anyway - it is beautiful, clean and absolutely in the centre of everything.

Perfect location to explore Bath

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is in the most perfect location with the Roman baths and Abbey right on your doorstep.

Although small, the apartment has everything needed with provisions for tea and coffee and even some biscuits left out to make us welcome. The only negative is the shower (weak water pressure) but that shouldn't put people off from staying here

Abbey House, Bath, U.K.

  • 3 of 5

The location of the Abbey House is a 5 star. Very clean and Laura was always available to speak and help answer your questions. There was very good WiFi and wonderful hot water. The washer worked well. The apt. was very cold at first but a few hours after you turn the heat on it was very comfortable.

On the down side... It can be quite noisy outside. The Abbey is VERY close and they ring the bells throughout the day and night. They are loud. Be aware... If you are not from Europe, this Flat is very tiny. We had a problem with the sheets, bed cover or bed mattress with a very bad smell. I am sure they will remedy this. Parking spaces are not easy to find but you are given a parking pass for free parking. We accidentally took the parking pass and Laura was kind enough to be kind about our blunder. We are immediately fast posting it to her from another village.

Owner's Response: Although this guests sounds lucid in this review, and she was very nice in person, she was a bit wacky. The "bad smell" issue is a case in point - and is just plain weird. There is no issue with smells inside the flat. The mattress is fresh as are all the linens, from the mattress cover to the duvet. Sorry, it doesn't make sense and we all have checked and rechecked this. The bells from the Abbey. Golly, what an issue that is, but believe me, they are gorgeous and they actually do not ring all night long. They do ring the Abbey Bells and one thing we do advertise is that we are right there in the centre of Bath in the Abbey House itself, so really, really close to the beautiful, historic Bath Abbey.

Bath is the jewel in the crown of the English Countryside. Set in the Mendip Hills, along the river Avon, it is a World Heritage site, so splendid, you will be ravished by its beauty.

Inside Bath, you will find the famous Roman Baths, architectural marvels such as The Royal Crescent and Circus, the beautiful Royal Victoria Park, Jane Austen Centre and the Therma Bath Spa.

Outside Bath, within an hour's drive, are Stonehenge, the cities of Wells and Glastonbury, and more historical marvels than I can recount here.
