I am continuing on the 60 year farming tradition of my family. I have lived at Smithstown House all my life. In the past Smithstown was a hive of activity with thoroughbred race horses, brood mares, foals, along with cattle, sheep, hayfields and cereals.
James purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1955
Why James chose Smithstown
Smithstown House, guest accommodation and farm have been owned by my family since 1953 My 3 siblings and I had wonderful freedom roaming the fields and generally getting up to as much mischief as possible. Most of our days were spent either on our ponies, climbing trees, fishing in our local little stream at the bottom of the farm, jumping on the haycocks in the summer or playing hide and seek in the surrounding woodland.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Unique benefits of this haven of tranquillity include peace, a very safe environment, wide open spaces to run free, with birdsong being the only sound you will hear and yet we are only a short distance from all the excitement you may require or for a wonderful relaxing holiday, the choice is yours

Smithstown House Drumree
We had a lovely family get together at Smithstown House. The owner James was friendly and helpful. The house was very spacious and clean. The kitchen was very well equipped for our use. This is the first self-catering rental property that provided us with all the household basics like washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, kitchen paper towels, garbage bags, laundry detergent and extra toilet rolls, etc etc which we really appreciate. We believe Smithstown House would be very suitable for families with young children with its safe walled garden to play in.
Thank you. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at Smithstown.
All the best for now.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Smithtown Cottage. Cows and sheep surround the property and we had a family photo shoot. The cottage was roomy and worked out well for our family. Lovely and peacefull.
Thank you for your kinds words on Smithstown House Dunshaughlin.
Smithstown House offers guests a total escape from the outside world with its peaceful, safe, and tranquil setting while only a 10 minute drive to all your other holiday requirements and tourist activities.
This was a very charming house to stay in and very comfortable.
There were 6 of us in the house and we all loved it! James was helpful with the local area. We did tours every day so we did not hang at the house during the day, but at night it was very peaceful and relaxing.
Comfortable enjoyable stay
The house was just the right size for our big family.
I am delighted that you and your family enjoyed your holiday at Smithstown House.
Many thanks for your kind words.
Stay at Smithstown House
We had a lovely stay at Smithstown House. Was very spacious, comfortable and quiet and the boys loved the big field to play football on! Was a perfect location for us to visit our family and view the sights. Thank you.
So glad you and your family had great fun staying at Smithstown House.
Very unique property
We enjoyed our stay in this very unique property. Secluded and blissfully quiet, but only ten minutes to the town of Dunshaughlin to shop for all our needs. Just a side note here ; the Supervalue Store is one of the best supermarkets I've ever shopped in! The house is large, very warm and with plenty of hot water for our family of six. The children had an absolute ball charging around the enormous walled garden. Very handy to Tayto Park ( a great day out) which was our prime reason for visiting this part of Ireland. We also visited Dublin and Malahide. Many thanks to James for his precise driving directions and his warm welcome.
Thank you so much Hazel for your very nice comments on your stay at. Smithstown House.
I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday here with us.
Smithstown House dates back to the early 1700s and is the birth place of Sir William Johnson who is immortalised in a biography called 'White Savage' written by Fintan O'Sullivan which details the the life of this great man. In the spring of 1737 Sir William Johnson departed from Smithstown to join his uncle in upstate New York and the Mohawk valley in the USA taking with him 30 local people from the surrounding area of Dunshaughlin, Drumree and Warrenstown. He was named 'White Savage' by the Indian tribes in the area due to his fair and just dealings with them and at a later stage he married a woman from the local Indian tribe.
Historical sights abound in the Smithstown area and the following are all within a 5 to 30 minute drive. Included in the the Boyne valley are the Hill of Tara, Kells, Oldcastle., Loughcrew Megalithic Site. Newgrange World Heritage site. Trim Castle where 'Braveheart' was filmed ,Killeen Castle the Solheim Cup Golf venue , Dunsany Castle still occupied by its original owners and Slane Castle ancestral home of Lord Henry Mountcharles which is open to the public and is a great international concert venue.
Quiet country walks and cycling are on your doorstep too.
Children will enjoy the theme park Tayto Park at Curragha. or the beautiful grounds and exotic animals of Dublin Zoo at the Phoenix Park.
Local shops in Dunshaughlin are small and inviting while if you fancy for big shopping why not try Blanchardstown a short 15 minute drive or venture in Dublin city centre.
The 109 Bus which is a 10/15 minute walk at the bottom of the road runs regularly to Dublin and Navan.
Smithstown house until very recently was a hub of horse breeding and racing with many local racecourses on its doorstep which include regular Steeplechasing at Fairyhouse, Navan, & Bellewstown.
Bellewstown has a real 'olden days' feeling to it due to its wonderful summer race meetings in both July & August annually. Racing also takes place at Punchestown & Naas which are slightly further afield, but still a quick drive away.
Most of all, Smithstown House offer its guests, peace, tranquillity and safety with the only sound to be heard is the birdsong.
