When i first visited stowe, i felt as if i were in a winter wonderland. It is also amazing at Summer and Fall seasons.
I vowed to go back as many times as possible in the winter without realizing that Stowe is actually an all year round location particularly suited to all sports whether winter sports or hiking, bike riding, walking, tennis, golf etc. Or just relax on the porch, sitting by beautiful Waterbury reservoir or take a trip to the top of Mount Mansfield whether by car or chair lift in the winter. Beautiful views across to Mount Washington and the Canadian border. Go visit Lake Champlain in Burlington in the summer and take a boat across to New York state. You are also near the Canadian border with Montreal being the closest part of Canada to Stowe, about an hour and a half car ride away. I believe you can fly to Montreal as well as Boston, although I have never done so myself.
This house is on the edge of centre to the village of Stowe where you can take a leisurely stroll to enjoy the many features typical of a New England village which is well serviced with beautiful restaurants as well as other facilities along the Mountain Road ( a free shuttle bus is available from the village along the Mountain Road to Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak for skiing if you don't have a car with you). You can also travel easily to other ski resorts from Stowe such as Jay Peak and Smugglers Notch.
My family has a strong association with the Village and to own a piece of it is a dream come true. Everyone who stays wants to come back. The property has 3 bedrooms, one being in the basement which has been finished to a high standard including shower room, utility room and den with seating and flat screen tv, plus a warm room to keep your ski boots toasty. The master bedroom upstairs is en suite with a large dressing room also. The second bedroom is also upstairs and next to the family bathroom.
Stowe is a truly remarkable place, became home to the Trapp family from the Sound of Music, is home to the original Ben and Jerry's nearby and has its own ghost, Emily, after which a covered bridge is named. The ski trails are fantastic and in the summer, are a treat to walk and hike for the amazing views.
The Green Mountain Inn along the road from this property is a quintissential New England inn where the Whip bar and Grill serves some beautiful food or you could just pop along for a cocktail in the bar in the evening while your dinner is cooking in the fully fitted kitchen. You must try the Green Mountain Inn brunch and Bloody Mary's at weekends. If you prefer to cater for yourselves, there are several grocery stores in the village and because its the US, almost every restaurant caters for take out service too. The food/deli store harvest market is a must for take out prepared food and high quality deli ingredients.
The Four Seasons itself has a large walk out porch where you can sit on the comfortable porch furniture during the summer and barbeque or in the winter to just view the snowy surrounds (we use the grill in winter too). The land opposite is a nature reserve and we have seen deer walk across the road in front but beyond that are tennis courts and a newly refurbished ice rink. What more could you want from a property that sleeps 8 for the price of a room in a local hotel, where every need is catered for, even for the reader, my favourite book shop, Bear Pond Books.
If you're looking for a spa with pool and beauty and relaxation treatments, we often use the Topnotch resort along the Mountain Road. There is even an outdoor heated pool with views of Mount Mansfield and fire pits lit around the pool during the evening.
Apres ski is fully catered for in the Village. Go to Sushi Yoshi for free wings with every drink, Doc Ponds within walking distance for a great vibe and food or be a little more discerning by eating in Plate, also within walking distance of the house. I think this might be my favourite restaurant at the moment.
A couple of reviews from this year are as follows:
' secluded in the heart of the village. What a great location! A few short steps away from the village and yet sitting on the deck you feel like you are on the back roads. This unit is very clean and very well appointed.'
'beautiful home. We really enjoyed our extended stay in this home. We rented it for 6 months. The layout of the house is fantastic, especially the large master suite with walk in closet and private bath. What was also great was the location -- easy and quick walk to restaurants and shops in Stowe. House is well appointed and included everything we needed. Thanks!' and my latest reviews from only a few weeks ago says

“Beautiful house in the lovely Stowe”
5 of 5 starsReviewed January 19, 2015 NEW
We stayed at the Four Seasons in the week running up to Christmas - it was wonderful. The house is spacious and well furnished. It is in a perfect location for skiing and exploring Vermont. Wonderful property, I hope we get the chance to go again.
I have also just taken a 3 month booking from someone who stayed last year so its a good rental. In fact my friends who came this year said it smells like Maple Syrup indoors! I guess that means its warm and welcoming and they said how surprised they were that it was so comfortable for what is a rental when we don't use it ourselves.
Each time we visit, we make new purchases and this winter we bought some more great quality rugs, added vintage skis and a tennis racket mirror as new additions for decoration.
Enjoy and treat as your home.
Christmas decorations available for anyone renting at that time of the year.

About Susan McNally
This is my second family home. I also live in the UK where I am updating an old 1840s house in a small village in Kent.
Susan McNally purchased this House in 2014
Why Susan McNally chose Stowe
I have a huge history with Stowe. My first visit was in 1996 with my husband and 3 small daughters. We continue to visit as a family and have many good memories. I also have family in Canada and New York so an ideal base for visiting those areas too.
What makes this House unique
Twinkly white lights in winter surrounded by snow....a truly magical experience.

Great location, perdefct for a Stowe vacation.
We lived in Stowe for a year and this was our first ski vacation as tourists. Some of our favorite spots in Stowe were very close by: coffe shop, library, ice cream shop, stores, restaurants. Many within walking distance. The ski slopes were very accessible, and we even had an option to take the shuttle to the ski resort from the center of town only a few blocks away. My daughters love the place, and the finished basement was the perfect spot for kids to have their own space or for family members to come and visit. We would definitely come back to this condo. The decor was very inviting and it felt very Stowe.
Thank you so much for your review. What could be a better review than from a “local”. I loved that you enjoyed the decor. I live in England and wanted the house to very much reflect Stowe as opposed to it being “English”. Please contact me any time you want to stay again. I have quite a few returners. I make updates to the property each time I return and in fact I am here now. Warm regards. Susan
Everything we wanted, all in great shape
The property is nicely located near the center of Stowe town, an easy walk. And the mountain is only about a 15 minute drive. Bedrooms and bathrooms were more than sufficient for Grandad, four kids, four grandkids. Three floors makes the difference; you're not on top of one another. Kitchen was spacious and well appointed. Nice warm gas fireplace in the living room. We couldn't have asked for more!
Perfect Stowe experience
Delightful experience overall. Comfortable and spacious semi-detached home, nicely "Stowe typically" decorated, kitchen well stocked, clean, very well located, and in line with the property description. We hope to return often to Stowe and will surely reserve again! Only issue was banging of heating system as it got colder out which I'm certain is rectifiable. Thank you Susan, nice dealing with you.
Thank you so much Lauren. I’m glad you enjoyed my home as much as I do and that you enjoyed the decor and furnishings etc. I try to add something different each time I visit too.
Apologies for the noise of the heating system. It’s certainly nothing I’ve experienced before and as I have a 24 hour maintenance guy I’ve asked him to take a look. My current renters seem to have not noticed anything further.
Isn’t Stowe wonderful. I live in England but we have a huge history with Stowe. Thank you for looking after my home. Let me know if you want to stay again.
Great house central location
Great property & location! Short drive to the mountain and walking distance to restaurants in the village.
Thank you for your review. We love it too.
Great property and perfect location!
A group of 5 of us do a ski weekend every winter and this was the best rental we have had! Plenty of room and extremely well maintained. Just a few miles from the mountain (although the traffic on a Saturday is ridiculous- Stowe needs to address their parking situation big time) and in walking distance to all the great restaurants, shops and bars in the village. Would definitely come back again!
Thank you for your kind review and Im glad you enjoyed your stay at The Four Seasons. Can I add that so far as your parking comment, I assume you mean at the mountain because of course there is plenty of parking at the house. Also, it is always busy on the Mountain Road on Saturdays but there is a short cut so no need to worry again. I look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
This is an all year round activity resort including skiing, walking, hiking, tennis, biking, cross country skiing, snowboarding. The Trapp Familly from the Sound of Music settled in Stowe so visit the Trapp Family Lodge. Also the original Ben and Jerry's factory.
