Turtle Dreams was perfect for us
My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at Turtle Dreams. My sister joined us for part of the trip. This was our first trip to the Bahamas, so we weren't sure what to expect. But as soon as the ferry pulled away from Treasure Cay dock and headed towards Green Turtle Cay, we knew we had come to the right place! Upon arriving on GTC, we were greeted by Mary Lowe, who guided us to the house via golf cart. She gave us a tour of the house, which is spacious, beautiful, and very well appointed, with great water views of Coco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. We had fun driving our golf cart along the spectacular ocean road to town and back.
Once we got settled, a typical day consisted of a leisurely breakfast on the screened porch while enjoying the water views, a late morning swim and and snorkel at one of the beautiful beaches, followed by lunch at McIntosh's (excellent cracked conch!), more swimming and beachcombing, and either dinner out or cooking a nice dinner at home while listening to our favorite music on the great sound system.
Along with the owners and Mary, who are extremely kind and helpful, we'd like to give a special mention to Brendal's Dive Shop, who took us on a fantastic full day snorkel trip with a beach picnic. Also, at Sid's store in town, Scott and his sister went out of their way to help us with groceries (and coconut bread!). In general we found the people on the island warm and friendly.
The Atlantic side of the island was quite rough while we were there in late January/early February, but the locals told us that it was an unusually windy few weeks. Even so, we managed to snorkel out to the reefs where we saw beautiful corals. Because we had heard that some people find the water slightly chilly, we brought long-sleeved neoprene tops with us, which helped us feel quite comfortable in the water.
The house's proximity to the beaches and its oceanside setting really make this a special place. The color of the water on these islands is stunningly beautiful. We visited most of the island's beaches and even managed an off-island excursion to Treasure Cay Beach, and I have to say I've never seen water these colors. At night, while nestled inside Turtle Dreams, I especially enjoyed drifting off to sleep listening to the sounds of the surrounding ocean. The photos of the house on VRBO are accurate. We found the house to be clean and comfortable with most everything we could ask for. We can't wait to return to GTC and Turtle Dreams!
What an Amazing Home!
We rented "Turtle Dreams" on our second visit to Green Turtle Cay. We fell in love with the island 2 years ago and were looking forward to returning. We were excited to see Turtle Dreams as the photos are wonderful. Hard to believe, but the home is even more beautiful in person. It is an amazing spot tucked in with a few other homes, but very private. The spaces outside (garden area, decks, stonework, walkway to the beach) were lush and beautifully built.
The inside was stunning. Being from New England, we appreciated the custom work, the nod to Nantucket, and the artwork, while still feeling Bahamian. The house was extremely well-cared for, very clean, and VERY well-equipped. The kitchen had absolutely everything we could have wanted and all the linens seemed new! The furniture was very comfortable and the ceiling fans keep the house at a perfectly comfortable temperature (and softly lulled us to sleep!).
As much as we loved the inside, it was hard to leave the screened in porch. It was spacious, with sets of french doors that allowed the outside to be truly appreciated from the inside. The outdoor furniture was perfect as well. Which brings us to the rooftop deck - SPECTACULAR! With a 360 degree view of water, it was the perfect spot to hang out. And, at night, with no light pollution on the island, it was nice to look up at what appeared to be billions of stars.
The location is wonderful. A quick walk to Coco Bay, and a nice, easy (not long at all) walk to Ocean Beach. We had a magical vacation and truly appreciate this fabulous home.
Outstanding house & grounds - spacious and clean
Turtle Dreams was our ideal vacation house - secluded enough for privacy, yet convenient to dock, yacht clubs and town. We (my wife and I) thoroughly enjoyed a week at Turtle Dreams. We rented a golf cart and a boat for the week to compliment our stay (one of the two is necessary to get around the island). With the newly paved island roads we often enjoyed taking the golf cart to dinner at the Green Turtle Club or Bluff House. We also enjoyed the quiet and privacy of hanging at the house or walking to the Ocean Beach or Coco Bay for a nice swim. The roof top deck was wonderful for star gazing, coffee in the morning or cocktail hour at twilight. Other conveniences included central air, screened porch and wi-fi. We will gladly return to Turtle Dreams for another dreamy summer vacation.
A Wonderful Place to Stay
Came to Green Turtle Cay as a group of 3 elders and stayed here at Turtle Dreams. Mary Lowe (Property manager) met us at the Ferry dock and was wonderful in helping us get to the house and introducing us to the home's features. The house is just lovely... roomy and comfortable. We arrived on 12/24/16 and left on 1/3. We rented a golf cart and the drive to the house was an adventure... The roads at the South end of the island are fairly smooth, but the roads at the North end are very rough and bounced us around quite a bit - however, it was worth it. Arriving at the house felt like coming home. During our stay we had weather varying from calm sunny days to stormy high wind days - but the house is tight and the weather was no issue. The A/C and the heat both worked great and there are ceiling fans in every room to help with the humidity. I've gone on several vacations that were meant to be 'relaxing' and 'peaceful' and this was the first one that met that expectation.... plenty of room in the house for each of us to find a quiet place to read or relax. There are two decks - the upstairs one is fully screened and that blocks most of the wind (and it's usually windy) and has two tables and a bunch of very comfortable chairs. It's a great place to sit and read a book or just to look out at the Bay and daydream! The downstairs deck is open and usually I preferred that one, as I like a nice breeze - but it only has one chair (maybe because it's not protected). It's also where you go if you want to 'talk' to the local chickens that hang around. The stairs in the house are easy to negotiate - even for elders (we're 60's to 80). The stairs that lead to the viewing deck are a different matter - they were difficult for my brother and I (60's) and mom didn't even try (80)... they are perfectly safe - but steep and the steps are quite tall, so challenging - however, it's worth the climb because the view is gorgeous - Turn one way and you can see the ocean / sunrise - turn around and you can see the bay / sunset.
We explored the island and New Plymouth. We did two excursions with Brendal's Dive Center and highly recommend them - they were the best fun we had on the island.
The locals were all very friendly and helpful and we always felt safe.
The only real 'downside' to the island was the No-see-ums - which were very bad this time and we all ended up with hundreds of bites and the stores had no Cortisone or Benadryl - so bring your own!!!
A Dream Vacation!
My husband and I stayed at Turtle Dreams for a week in late March and just can't explain how magical this home and this island are! The home is simply beautiful with so much room to spread out and so many different levels to view amazing Coco Bay as well as the ocean view side! The peace and quite that we experienced there is something I will not forget - ever. I wanted to see the island and yet I found it hard to leave the house! The beauty of the island can't be explained - you must see it to fully feel it and understand how special it is. We walked the path (so close!) to Coco Bay on one day the the ocean path (just as close) the next - both breath-taking beaches. We are from Florida and have been to almost every beautiful beach in the state so we know a gem when we wee one! We were coming back one night from Harvey's (heavenly Grouper sandwiches) and the full moon had just started to rise over the ocean - beauty beyond words. We stopped and sat in the cart for about thirty minutes knowing that it would be a long time before we ever saw anything like this again- ever! The island feels so safe and we never worried about anything the entire time we were there. The people are so sweet and helpful - wonderful!!! We loved the cart rides on the sandy roads - so much fun! I fell in love with my roosters - smiled every morning when I hear them. Mary Lowe is an absolute darling and made us feel totally at home and got us all set up - wonderful gal. We fished with Ricky Sawyer and caught Bonefish - had an absolute blast and Ricky is just the coolest guy you could want to meet. I can't imagine how our week could have been any better. The house was so much more than we expected and so is the island. The final few days (when we thought we had seen everything) we made it over to Gilium Bay to do some snorkeling - the most beautiful water I have ever seen in my life! Anyway, can you tell we are going back!!!??? Don't miss this one - opportunity of a lifetime. When you return home to your routine you will find that you have a much clearer picture if what life is supposed to be and you can make some adjustments. Ha!!!
Turtle Dreams, Greeen Turtle Cay
We stayed at Turtle Dreams from 12/28/15-1/4/16. The house was beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. The roof deck was perfect for sunrise and sunset viewing. Two of the best beaches on the island are walking distance from the house, but it was fun to explore the entire island and check out other beaches as well. We did a snorkel excursion with Brendal, which was a huge highlight of our trip. Getting there is a bit of an excursion in itself but once there, it was worth the effort. If you want a quiet, relaxing vacation in a beautiful home, on a gorgeous island, this is the place to go!
