Why Ed Bodman chose Muskegon

In historic Bluffton neighborhood, an historic, quaint neighborhood in the City of Muskegon, sandwiched on a narrow peninsula between Lake Michigan beach and Muskegon Lake.

Eagles Nest cottage is the only rental cottage on famous Pigeon Hill, where neighbor children play on the huge dunes and pigeons roosted. Although it's only 12 stair steps from street level, no one else lives up there, and even the air seems different -- fresh, and on a windy day you can hear Lake Michigan waves. Miles of forest dune is the view north, and it's all yours while you are there.

Eagles Nest has the best of both worlds--away from it all on the dune, and just 12 steps down, you have access to all fun, beaches, highways, necessities, and quick trips to other beach towns.

What makes this cottage unique

Shady patio 2 is on a forested dune where you have privacy and feel like you are living in nature yet can see your parked car below. Just 12 steps down where your car is parked is the friendly neighborhood, so you have the best of both worlds--living in nature and conveniences of the city. Furniture chosen by award-winning designer for comfort and charm.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had such a nice time at cozy Eagles Nest Cottage! It was clean, cute and well furnished/decorated. True to it's name, it was very cozy. It's close to the lake on a wooded sand dune, on our first morning there we were greeted by 3 deer which were just feet away from us! We had a great time at Michigan Adventure and at the beach, and we took a boat cruise on Lake Muskegon and through the channel to Lake Michigan. Our 4 and 6 year olds loved it!

Wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four enjoyed the three nights we spent at the Eagles Nest on our way to Chicago. The place was immaculate and very close to the amazing beach nearby. Although you could easily walk, we drove in order to have easy access to beach toys etc. We were only there for three days but we managed to do more than just spend time at the beach. We loved lounging at the cottage and spending the evenings by the fire. We also went to the USS Silversides submarine museum which the whole family enjoyed. We went to Ryke's bakery for their famous doughnuts and baked goods. We went to the Lakeside Emporium which is a very impressive candy store. We ate at Dockers and Bernie O's Pizza which were both excellent places to eat. On our last night we went to Getty's Drive In which was only $5.00 per person on Tuesday nights and was a very fun night. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a cozy and clean place to stay. It is close to one of the nicest beaches I have ever been to. Jane is also wonderful to deal with and is very happy to answer any questions about what the area has to offer.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed the beach, the cottage, and the things to do. Thanks very much for giving future guests some great ideas for their own stay. For your next visit, I recommend the dune stair climb and the walk through the woods to Lake Michigan beach at Hoffmaster State Park. Best wishes to you, our Canadian neighbors! You'll be welcomed back any time.

Cozy and clean retreat!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is as cute as can be. It is decorated perfectly and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The bed is comfortable and even though the cottage is not large, we had plenty of space for our family of four between the bed, the pull out sofa, and an air mattress we brought for the floor. It is conveniently located very close to Pere Marquette. Unfortunately, we had a family emergency and had to cut our stay short, but both Ed and Jane went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. I really felt like I was being taken care of by family. I wouldn't hesitate a second to recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice, relaxing, retreat.

Cute little place that has everything you need

  • 4 of 5

At first glance, the place looks small although it was everything 3 adults needed for a weekend getaway. There was a mild odor throughout the place, stronger in the kitchen, probably from the air conditioner, that was potent every time we walked in. Although the place looked clean and tidy. The manager was great and answered all of my questions and had suggestions for activities while we were there. The beach and Lake Michigan was a 3 minute bike ride/ less than 10 minute walk so the location was amazing. Great place for a short stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for joining us. Warm Lake MI temps can provide several humid but mild days during the peak summer season. We are adding a dehumidifier in the building to address your reference here.

Good attention to detail

  • 5 of 5

Overall we'd say the place was great. They had a lot of things included in the apartment that was helpful, stocked very well with kitchenware and towels. The place was also nicely decorated. It's small, but the space is used very well. Only around 6 blocks from a nice large public beach, and lighthouse. The owner/manager was very helpful when we contacted him. The only thing was the bed was kinda saggy and not the most restful for my wife and I, but that's subjective of course. We would defintely stay again, and would recommend.

Our stay at the Eagles Nest was perfect. The house was super clean and fire pit outside was awesome.

  • 5 of 5

We especially loved that the cabin sat up on a dune with trees behind us and a fire pit. I would definitely recommend this to others. Also, the proximity to the lake is also a selling point. Jane was willing to help with anything we needed. Loved it!

Clean, cozy, close to the beach

  • 4 of 5

Wife and I love this location. This was our fourth time staying on the property and we loved it just like the prior visits mainly because of its location to the beach. It is a clean property inside and out. The kitchen is small and the bathroom is small but we managed. We enjoyed cooking our own meals on site instead of staying in a hotel or bed and breakfast. We recommend it for couples but not for larger groups. There is also a Meijer close buy and other supermarket. The beach location is by far the greatest part of this stay.
